Android Amazon appstore

Let's talk about mobile games for a second.
Most are utterly terrible, with the exception of a few gems like Angry Birds or Plants Vs. Zombies. Apple has the best marketplace for mobile games, keeping in mind 95% of the apps are crap.If a game does well on iOS, you can expect to see a version on the Android Google "Play" marketplace. Another 3 months after THAT, the Amazon appstore might get a version of a game, that will likely never be updated. Amazo has an incentive program called Amazon coins that you earn for purchases in the Amazon Marketplace. Each coin=one cent.
Today (10/16/13) if you want to earn $4.60 in Amazon app funny money, "purchase" these 23 FREE apps. You don't need to download; each app "purchase" (free)earns 20 cents. I highly recommend you spend this $4.60 on goom games like The Room, Plants Vs Zombies, or maybe Angry Birds Star Wars. I can't in good conscience advise anyone to spend any time on these 23 apps, with one exception.

Here is a list of the 23 free apps that will earn you 20 Amazon coins for a total of $4.60 in Amazon app credit. I inexplicably tried each app for 5 minutes and wrote a short review

Pocket Mine
I'm a miner. The ceiling moves down constantly. My pickaxe breaks unless I spend more $. So I die. Deleted.
Shooting Showdown
I'm a gun in a gunstore. I can shoot other guns. Or targets. Oops, only 7 bullets. Buy more? NO.
Laugh & Learn TM Where's Puppy's Nose? for Baby
Fisher Price commercial with scarily happy characters. Nightmare fuel.
Fun Run - Multiplayer Race
Game required registration with Facebook before I could play. Nope. Out.
SpongeBob Diner Dash
Actually pretty fun. Frantic resource management. I kept forgetting to put away dirty dishes.
Zombies Ate My Friends
Dress up your zombie hunter. Fight cute zombies in cute stages. Meh.
Guncrafter
I'm building guns out of wood blocks. (?) Now I'm stuck on inescapable ad screen. Unlock full game? HAHAHA
Jackpot Slots- Slot Machines
I would say this is the methadone for slot addicts, except you can still spend real money.
Despicable Me: Minion Rush
Spent 2/3 of 5 minute review downloading additional content. Followed byloading screens. Actual game was a decent runner.
Houzz Interior Design Ideas
Like a Pinterest for interior decorating ideas. Let me contain my excitement. How U ZZZ...

Can You Escape
Hidden object/puzzle game. Spent most of my 5 minute review rearranging a horse. Cleared first room, will probably play more.

FIFA 14 by EA Sports
Took over half an hour to download. Looked and sounded amazing for the 20 seconds before it crashed.
The Simpsons: Tapped Out
If you have over 100 updates, you don't deserve to call yourself a mobile game.
Hill Climb Racing
I broke my Hillbilly's neck in Hill Climb Racing. I hope Bobby-Sue got lots of royalties for drawing the levels.

PicsArt Photo Studio
MAKE IT STOP

I think you're being a little bit harsh on mobile games.  There's a lot of trash out there, but there's some good games out there as well.  If you think Angry Birds is one of the best mobile games, you've got some exploring to do.  Just on this list, I've had a really good time with Subway Surfers.  It looks nice and it's supported well and has a fun upgrade system that encourages replayability.

Jetpack Joyride is a great game.  Rayman Jungle Run is another good runner.  The puzzle quest games are awesome, and they just released a new F2P one in the Marvel world.  Doodle Jump can be addictive.  Clash of Heroes Might and Magic is a fun puzzle game.  There are lots of decent platforming games on mobile as well.

These games are never going to replace console/PC gaming, but they can be fun and addictive distractions and there's a lot of good developers putting effort into their games that aren't just cash grabs.

I suppose you bring up some "ok" mobile titles, but in all honesty (and being completely blunt with my opinion), mobile gaming is part of what has lead to the erosion of gaming as a whole. It is curious that a company like Square, whom has released some amazing games in their history, is willing to focus more on mobile gaming in the future. It just says that they understand the cash cow that is mobile gaming, and that cash cow is what leads to games that lack quality and or depth. Sure, some diamonds in the rough can be found, but ultimately is just really simplified garbage that ends up being distributed that makes someone a bunch of money.

I don't know, maybe I am jaded in my old age, but I could have been happy in life never having played angry birds or doodle jump or any of the other countless knock offs of those games. there isn't any depth I have found to those games. the may be a way to kill time, but I can think of a thousand other things I would rather do than spend a 10 minute period playing jetpack joyride. and I would rather see companies invest in larger, deeper more involved games (like Bethesda) rather than crap out and create some game for my phone that I will download and play rarely.

And there is no way I am paying for FF remakes at the cost that is charged.

There's really no doubt that mobile gaming has changed gaming and in many ways not for the better.  F2P and DLC is more prominent now more than ever on consoles and it's going to be even worse on the next generation.  But it's not really fair to blame "mobile gaming" for that, the blame would fall to the consumer.  Developers and publishers are obviously going to chase the easiest buck (as any good business should) and if consumers are giving them that easy money, than developers and publishers would be stupid not to chase it.

I also don't really buy into the whole "erosion of gaming" and end of days talk when it comes to video games.  More games are releasing now than ever before.  There's literally no way to keep up with all the quality games that come out.  If you include downloadable games like the ones on PSN and XBLA, there's at least one quality title released every week.  The vast majority of games I still play and enjoy are not F2P in any way and most of them don't even have DLC.  I don't have any research to back this up, but I actually think mobile gaming may actually help foster the growth of new developers in the industry.  I know there are several Playstation Minis developers that are now working on fully downloadable Vita and PSN games.  To me that's a good thing!

So yeah, mobile gaming of course has its drawbacks and its share of garbage.  I think it's influencing the industry in a variety of ways, both good and bad.

Thank you both for your opinions. If you enjoy mobile gaming, I certainly don't want to take that away from you. In fact, I'm trying to help you get $4.60 in credit toward them.
