Selling my Gamecube Collection

Posted by tylerh1701, 04 September 2013 · 987 views

This could probably just go in the brag forums, but I figured I'd do a blog post about it because those are more fun.

So I posted a blog a month ago about selling off older games that aren't being played anymore, and that I was tempted to continue to reduce my older games collection. Well I decided to go for it and sell off most of the games I had that still had any value. Below are the games I sold, and what I got for them (after shipping and fees):

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem - $18.00
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - $46.37
Luigi’s Mansion - $18.00
MegaMan X Collection - $35.81
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - $21.24
Super Mario Sunshine - $24.50
Super Smash Bros Melee - $32.02

So I ended up with $195.94 for those seven games, which I think is a pretty nice haul. And it really does pay to keep your games in good shape, that's for sure. I was able to charge premium for some of them, particularly Smash Bros and Wind Waker, since the vast majority of listings on Amazon were "disc only" copies. Despite the higher prices, they both sold within 24 hours of listing.

Based on this success, I think I'll continue to chip away at my older collection. I'm almost about ready to clear out my DS and Wii games since I don't really play those very frequently anymore either.

I'm tempted to get rid of my Wii/games but I know I won't get much out of the Wii at this point.

I need the money and I never do play it.

I found several SNES/Genesis games/boxes that I had from back in the day.

I sold a couple of them. I sold some boxes only and some of them was rare. I couldn't believe what I got out of some of the boxes I had. I'm not a collector or anything so I didn't really need them. Back in the day of SNES most people threw them away or didn't keep them for whatever reason. For once it paid off to keep everything.

I have a few old SNES and 64 boxes.  Maybe I should try and unload those on ebay, since I will never use them.  Like you, I'm not really a collector.  I just sort of keep that stuff in case they're ever worth money.  I know I sold my release date Ocarina of Time game and collectors edition box for a pretty penny a while ago.  Boxed games are such a bitch to ship though...

I had Final Fight 3, Mega Man X, Mega Man X2 from back in the day. I ended up getting rid of those.

People on ebay told me to be careful how I shipped it so the box doesn't get damaged. I felt kind of insulted, but I didn't say anything back. I've been doing this for over 9 years. I know how to ship things at this point.

I might be interested in some of your SNES/N64 boxes since I'm trying to build up those collections.

You got some good prices for your GC games, other then X Collection. I've seen copies of that hit $50+ easily. I sold off a bunch of my extra GC games recently and was surprised at how much I got for some of them...

Where did you sell MMX:Collection at? I need some money at moment. Edit: Amazon, right?

Really?  The fact that it exists for PS2 for much cheaper made me think it wouldn't sell very quickly.  Looking at the Amazon prices now though make me think I should have listed it higher.  When I listed it, it wasn't the cheapest one available either (it sold at $43.95+$3.99 shipping).  Now the cheapest is over $50.  I must have sold at the exact wrong time.  Weird, but oh well.

Amazon, yes.  And the prices are even higher now then they were when I sold last week.  Good luck.

I wish you had Gotcha Force.

Hmmm never heard of it.

Man, I just got about $31 for Wind Waker, and it was in great shape.  So I'd say you made out pretty well there, at least.

I got Twilight Princess for $10 from a pawn shop. I was quite pleased.

Yeah, I was very happy when that one sold at the price I listed it for (over $50).

For Gamecube?  That's a steal!

Yup, it said $30 but I paid $10.

Nice prices you got for them.  I feel that many Gamecube games hold their value well.  I've been looking for a copy of Kirby Air Ride for a decent price for awhile now, but most copies are disc only like you said, or the seller wants over $50 for it.

Not sure if I'll ever start selling off my massive 650+ collection I've amassed over the last 8 years.  I did end up getting rid of about 100 games for my older retro systems before I started "collecting" games (and getting more income to pick up games on sale), stuff for NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, etc.  Got around $1500 for them all, but sometimes still wish I kept them for the novelty, even if they would just sit on a shelf un-played, especially since most were in great condition and complete.

The Gamecube was a delightful machine. My favorite Nintendo console even past the original NES. Even the gba connectivity was cool albeit underused. I have nothing of value to add to this blog otherwise. Good score.
