Working out a deal and know its alot more. If it was just going to take a dollar maybe I wouldnt sweat it but this transaction is for over $800...so ya its going to take a huge chunk. The buyer agreed to pay extra to make up for the % so can anyone tell me what it is?

I dont see an option for credit card payments. Also on their fee related page it says "Personal accounts are free, but may not receive debit or credit card payments." does that mean you cant receive a credit card payment anyways if you just have the basic sign up for paypal and get verified acount?

you have to upgrade your paypal account from personal to premier in order to accept credit card payment. with a premier account, paypal will charge you a fee when you receive payment regardless of method (doesn't matter if it is from a credit card or bank account).

Fees are the same whether they pay by a credit card or not

there are 3 type of paypal accounts
personal
premiere
and something else

the personal is only for paypal to paypal transactions...no cc funded paypal. if you ever do an ebay auction and a buyer tries to use cc funds and you accept them, then your account is automatically upgraded...very tranparent process.

premier accounts get charged no matter where the funds come from...it's somehting like 2.9% +$.30 for everything under a certain amount and so on. go to paypal and search for fees...its not hard to find.

Iv looked at the fees page and it isnt made quite clear, also under my acount it just says verified 5 not if its personal or anything else.

I have seen people in their trade lists say that they want so much extra if someone is sending money by credit card, or that they simply will not take paypal credit card payments. I just wanted to make sure when this guy sent the money the $825 instead of becoming $800 didnt become $700 or $750 or something.

if he sends you $800 from his paypal account then it will depend on your account status:
you have a personal account then no fee
you have a premiere account then it will cost $800*.029+.3=$23.50

if you have a premiere account it doesn't matter your $800 will become $800-$23.50

Exactly. And if he's send you a credit card payment, you have to have a premiere account or you'll just get nothing instead of $800-$23.50 ;)

Thanks for all the help everyone! I got one more question though, where do you see if you are premier or basic. Again under my acount info all I see is Verified 5 not any info on if I am basic or premium.

On the PayPal page, after you sign in, on the Overview page it says for me

Premier Account Overview — United States

I have a Premier account, so that's right. I'm guessing it'll say Personal if it's personal

However - if he's gonna pay through a credit card you'll have to upgrade to premier So Charge $825 or whatever. Technically you're not supposed to be allowed to charge a surcharge for accepting PayPal whether it's on PayPal, somebody's personal website, or a transaction via email, but no one really listens to that anyway.

A word of warning: IIRC you won't be able to switch your account back to Personal/free once you upgrade to Premier unless you want to make a whole new account. Some eBayers have 2 specific Paypal accounts, one for CC payments (premier), and one for X-fers (personal) to avoid unnecessary fees.

From here on out, you'll be charged a fee on ALL of your Paypal payments you receive.

Bah, there's a much better way to check:

you can downgrade your account.
BUT I think you're only allow to downgrade it once.

Thanks for all the info guys I got the money minus the fee. Its good to know though that I can create a second acount and keep that one non premier that way I dont get charged all the crazy fees.

You can open two accounts, but if you're selling on eBay you cannot say
"Send CC payments to xxx@CAG.com and non-CC to pr0n@CAG.com", all eBay payments have to be made to the Premier account, else it's fee circumvention
