i did that free year of egm deal from this site, thanks to whoever posted it, and ive received 3 of them so far but im a bit surprised at how small the magazine is now. is it this small because its a free issue and they dont want to give us the full one or is this the new size of egm magazine and if so WTF happened to egm? i remember the thing being like half an inch thick and sometimes more during the holiday issues and now its no bigger than one of those little booklets they give away with houses for sale. when did it shrink and did they ever give a reason for why?

also on another note what the hell ever happened to sushi X he was a game reviewer for the magazine and usually had the best reviews on games? is he at another game magazine or does he have his own website?

Yeah, personally, ever since EGM gave its magazine a make-over, the magazine has gotten smaller and less informative.

EGM has gotten a lot smaller, which is why I stopped paying for it, and started getting it for free. I remember that one winter...hmm...I think it was winter 2003/2004, when they had three HUGE issues in a row. A November Halo 2 issue at 330 pages (which I still have), a December Vice City issue, and a January 'Holiday' Issue.

Yeah, EGM has become one big ad for 1up.com, which is a really shitty website.

Yeah, it's really annoying to have an interview or a review and then see "go to stupidfuckingpage.1up.com for more." No. People pay for the magazine, give them some fucking information, not an ad for a shit website.

 Reminds me of the FF IX strategy guide and playonline.com.

Sympathy points for anyone who witnessed that.

I guess with all the free subscriptions they've been giving out, they cant put as much info as they used to.
Just remember, beggars cant be choosers.

US gaming magazine will always be useless unless they can change to a weekly format.

They also used to write pages of previews. Now...nothing.

I got the newest one in today, and they do the 50 greatest newest games. Basically they rank 50 upcoming games that are original. Yet oddly the cover story was the number 1 game...hmm...yeaa...

Ive subscribed to EGM on and off since the 16 bit days, thats at least 14-15 years, and Ive noticed a trend. The spring and summer issues tend to be very small, cos theres not many games on the immediate horizon. Then starting with the Sep or Oct issue they get bigger and bigger. Because publishers pull out all their guns for the year end holiday season, so theres lot smore to cover in the mag, and lots more advertising space to sell.

The difference can be ALOT. I have issues of EGM smaller then the ones today, like 98 pages, and theyre from 10 years ago. I also have 300+ page issues from back then and from a year ago, so its a cyclical thing. Kinda like the seasons. I think it has somthing to do with stonhenge.

I agree but at the same time a gaming mag in the mailbox makes for at least one good read on the shitter.

Magazine make most of their money from ads & newsstand purchases. The more subs they have the more then can charge advertisers.
This is why subs are only $10-$25 on those little cards in the mags. They give free subs so they can meet advertisers demands and charge more.

To be honest EGM is total crap now adays. The layout got wrost.

The only real gaming magazine is PLAY magazine and I barely see there magazine out there.

I blame Game Informer for this and who ever messed up EGM.

Speaking of magazines how do you create a magazine to begin with. I have this idea of creating a magazine but I lack the funds and start point.

Down with EGM up with PLAY magazine created by the Editors of Gamers Republic.

My main problem with Play that theres too much anime and manga coverage for my tastes. I enjoy good anime, but I dont read manga, and you cant even tell whats good cos play rates all anime & manga between 8.5-10. Ive never seen them give a bad review to any anime, which makes their reviews unreliable, since its clear that they are anime freaks, and Im sorry but plenty of anime simply sucks. Whenever I get a new issue, I can pretty much ignore the last 30 pages of the magazine.

I really enjoy Harcore Gamer magazine. But I also subscribe to OPM, Play, EGM, and GI. I like to have something to read on the bus, or the shitter.
