Alright, so I got this game last week and absolutely love it. However, as can be expected, I have no idea what I'm really doing, outside of the basic concept of playing a rhythm game. Can anyone provide a basic overview of the "plot", etc?

All I can really see is that I play the single player mode until the special mode opens up, which I can play until I play a certain number of songs consecutively, at which time it becomes unavailable again. And repeat.

Does it save stats/records/etc anywhere? I know I signed some application form after my first time through the special mode, so I figure that's saving my results somewhere.

you keep going into the recording studio doing harder tracks. each time you do it, you unlock the next difficulty of tracks (*, **, *** etc). When you successfully record the 5 *s then it will keep track of your score for each instrument on each song. Also, it unlocks the pro mode (which makes you hold the L and R buttons when necessary and play out the "touch screen" segments). Generally, pro mode is impossible, especially at 4-5 stars.

Also, when you unlock pro mode, you also unlock song edit mode, where you can compose your own score for up to 8 songs. that's pretty cool.s

of course, the absolute best is to get a ton of DSs together for band play. the player with the cart can play pro mode or normal mode, and the download players can play normal and easy mode.

Dang, I so want to import this and Ouendan. I wonder if the US localized Ouendan will have any decent music in it...

It'll have a different song list, and if you're into music games, that's the only reason you need to pick up both versions.

Awesome, I was curious if it had single-cart multiplayer. My buddy has a DS now, but I wouldn't expect him to pay $40 for this bad boy, but at least when he's over, we can get some Daigasso in.

Thanks for the explanation, I think that makes it a little clearer. Is there any way to select an instrument in the recording studio? I just randomly select a song and one of the buttons to play (which may be the instruments?). Ready Steady Go is a good time all around.

And daroga, I definitely recommend this one if you like the genre. I'm working on getting Ouendan next (I think the YesAsia coupon is without an expiration, so no hurry). I'll probably snag that next month to kinda space out these horribly un-CAG-like purchases. And I will be preordering Elite Beat Agents with my EB credit as soon as possible as well.

Edit: And you just answered my question about the instruments below. Those are the button selections, I guess.

someone please explainbasically it's a rhythm game using the D-pad and the 4 DS buttons to play notes. L raises it a half-step, and R raises it an octave. you pick a song, then you pick one of 4-8 instruments (it varies by the song) to play.

the real fun is when you get multiplayer. instead of all just dancing to a beat or something, you actually play the notes yourselves, so if everyone sucks it sounds like garbage. it's pretty funny. and if you're all pretty good it sounds pretty good, though you can definately hear if someone is playing the wrong notes or rushing or something. it's a lot of fun.
