Will an original Xbox XBL subscription kit work with a 360? Do they expire?

Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered before, but I tried searching with no luck.

I saw an old school 12 moth XBL kit in akihabara for $25...Will this work with a 360? Do the cards expire? Thanks.

No, the old cards don't work. I tried, but the codes don't jive with the 360.

You have to use the code on the Xbox then transfer it over to the 360

I got an old Live card to work with no problems this week. I've never had a Live account before and was just using the free month on the 360. Can anyone else report success or failure?

I can also second that, I have used an original Xbox card on the 360 by simply inputting the number.

I just renewed my account a week ago using an old card. They do work.

It must be that they only work if you're creating a new account but if you have an existing account, it doesn't. I have an existing Live Gold account and it didn't work. Did both you guys create a new account when it worked?

I was using the free month, which was set to expire in early August, when I inputted my code. My Gamertag was all set up since I had been using Live every day of the free month. The code was accepted and the 12 month subscription was confirmed.

I learned about all of this in the "Microsoft Live 12 month Gold Card Xbox 360 - $35.82 (CC PM?)" forum. The pertinent information is on the 3rd page.

No, it wasn't a new account. I renewed my current one. The old cards work.

Okay since you ALREADY have an existing gamertag, that old XBL subscription kit WILL work.


Basically, it won't work if your trying to make a NEW account(Gamertag). The only way to make it work? Using either an old Xbox and doing account recovery on your 360 OR by making a silver account and using that 1 month free gold and THEN using the 12 month.

So basically Cheapy, since you already have an account, you should have no problem with that old subscription kit... I know because I just did that a few seconds ago with my account lol. Thank goodness to that Toys R Us deal hehehe...
