Has anyone else been bothered by the lack of attention towards the controls in previews? I mean, the 360 D-Pad in my opinion, is pretty shitty, compared to the PS2 D-Pad. I loved playing Capcom Vs Snk 2, Anniversary Collection, and Alpha on the PS2 because of the great controls and the feel of the D-Pad.
The 360 D-Pad is all plastic, very clicky, and also seems to input directions wrong at certain times. Every preview I've read, they've made zero mention about the D-Pad specifically, but a more general obversation of the "controls". They all say that the game responds pretty well and what not, but how does it feel?
I'm also not looking to buy an arcade stick (if there is any for the 360? maybe the DOA one?) to solve my problems.

I'm also concerned about the dpad. I do have the DOA stick though so if the controller sucks with it I can always use the stick. I'm surprised nobody has said anything in there previews.

it's not the tightest d-pad, since it doesn't have receptors under each individual direction, but it could be decent. If SFA3 can be decent on the PSP, there's no reason this should suck.
i'm using the doa stick though.

I was playing DW:Empires and the D-Pad is often reading the wrong button when I issue commands. I'll probably steer clear of SF if that's how the game will play.

I guess I'll have to wait for the reviews. I'd really hate for this game to be ruined because of a stupid controller =/
As much as I love SF, I don't wanna plop down $70 (the game and an arcade stick for it to be playable..maybe) just to get an online version of it.

Anyone know of a xbox to xbox360 controller converter? I would love to use my Pelican stick.

I wouldn't spend too much time fretting over this. The game will be out in 10 days and you know your going to get it whether the controls have been fixed or not. Just for the sake of answering your question though, yes, you will probably have to get an arcade stick to play this game to the advanced level you expect of yourself.

yep... horrible d-pad. The only fighters it really works for are double tap types like DoA and Mortal Kombat.

This is the only reason that selling my Dreamcast has never entered my mind. Soul Calibur was the first game I bought for my DC and was the first game for the next gen systems of that era that made me say "WOW"

If the arcade one sucks I'll just put in the SF collection. I never really had a problem with the controls on that one.

PS2 dpad isn't any better for fighters.
Too bad the Saturn USB pads don't work on the 360.
i'm using the doa stick though.
Same here. At least until I can get a custom stick for the 360.

well, the original Saturn pads are able to work witht he 360 if you have the time to build it.

Yea but wouldn't it be easier if Microsoft released a patch that allowed Saturn USB pads to work on 360?
Or I guess Sega could release ones that work with 360. That way they make more money. ;)

I'd have to disagree completely. With the Ps2 D-Pad, at least you can actually "feel" yourself perform a motion (a fireball) for example, you can slide your thumb to perform the move. The 360? You'll skin your thumb raw by constantly perform such motions. And at least the PS2 can detect the directions correctly. With the 360 D-Pad, I can't even type messages correctly because the D-Pad always gets my input wrong.

Regardless, the point is that a PS2 pad is not very good for fighters. Sure it's a bit better than a 360 pad I guess, but that isn't saying much.
If you want to be playing fighters at the highest level you're capable of, you have to be using something better than a PS2 or a 360 pad.
Most people who really are into fighters will be using something better than the stock controller for Hyper SF2. That's part of the genre, gotta spend some extra money on a better controller/stick.

I think both pads are pretty shitty for fighting games. Though I personally think that the PS2 d-pad is worse because it's too flat and it will destroy your thumb if you play too much.... the 360's pad isn't always as accurate as it should be and for something like Street Fighter, the lack of 6 face buttons is problematic.

This is a joke right? I've had NO problem playing fighters on the PS2's d-pad so I don't see the complaints, however I think all the Xbox d-pads have been total shit.

I can barely play FROGGER using the piece-o-crap d-pad of the 360...I shudder when I think about having to do fireballs and dragon punches with it.

QFT. Saying the PS2 pad is better for fighters than the 360 pad is like saying getting kicked in the nuts is better than getting a fork in the eye.
The Saturn pads did it right, and those SF Anniversary pads for XBox and PS2 weren't too bad....other than that, a decent stick is pretty much the only good option.

I hope you're talking about the dimpled d-pad on the Saturn. That pad was HEAVEN for fighters.

I'm sure he's talking about the Japanese one. (At least I am) I don't remember if they released it here too for the Saturn, I'm pretty sure originally the controller was a bit different in the US.

Best control pad ever. Still isn't better than a stick, but it's a damn good alternative.

The PS2's pad is decent, but it will fuck your thumb up and it's absolutely impossible to consistantly do horizontal motions (for example, forward, back, forward in KOF.) The Xbox 1's giant pad had what is doubtlessly the worst D-pad ever and the Xbox controller S had shitty button placement, so yes, the PS2 pad is the best of the bunch... but that still doesn't make it good. And there's still not a single pad where you can hit 3 punches or 3 kicks at once and hope to be successful.

if you play alot on the ps2 d-pad you can actually wear it down enough where it's no longer a pain. I have 2 pads I've worn down that work and feel more responsive than a brand new PS2 pad.

Rolento my thumb is already fucked up thanks to the CALLUSmaker that is the NES d-pad. I'm glad that touch pad company sold those pads because it got to the point where it PAINED me to use the NES d-pad.
And I guess I mean the U.S. Saturn pad and NOT the Japanese one.

I forgot to mention that I have anger issues which kinda limits the lasting value of a worn down controller. I do know what you're talking about and it does get a little better... but there's still those times when the d-pad feels too flat and unresponsive.
Still, that's not really an issue since I've started moving to the stick.
