Got my ds lite on the release day, since then have been playing NSMB quite intensively... (both me and my wife). Couple days ago, the ds lite will power off by itself while playing. I googled to find that someone also has the same problems, some youtube video even shows a ds lite resetting itself when button Y and B are pressed simultaneously.
So I called up Nintendo last nite, the service rep said he heard about this too. And he is sending a new one to me today as replacement. He said they know about the problems, and the new ones are supposingly free of that issue.... I hope it's true.
Anyone has similar experience?

mine powered off in the middle of gameplay once, but it was because the battery had died. Are you sure thats not what happened? I think the blinky light on the side of the DS starts to blink red when its about to die.

Yeah I think thats what happened to you. Although the fact that the Nintedo guy said he heard about it discomforts me.

No, definitely not a dead battery, it's fully charged. Plus, if I swap in another game, like animal crossing, it won't power off.

Man... am I the only one who hasn't had a problem with his DSL (besides the first unit with a dead pixel, which I was able to exchange)?:-?
But luckily for you, it was a Nintendo system since they have the most lenient warranty policy of any company I've ever dealt with.

Contacted Nintendo customer service, the rep said he had heard about this problem, although not so common as yet. It's due to intensive use of some of the buttons, making some connectors break, causing it to power off. He arranged to send me a new unit, claiming that it will not develop the same problem, since they already know what causes it and how to fix it. I hope it's true....
Anyway, I will be getting my new unit tomorrow! I hope it has no dead pixels, and I also have to move the hori screen protector to the new one. That would be a challenge.

Weird, if that's true, why is it only that particular game that causes the system to turn off?

NSMB primarily uses the Y and B buttons (Fireball and Jump), making it more likely to cause this problem than most other games.
