CheapyD says:
The demo is up, but you have to dig for it
342.53MB, It's a 20 minute timed demo.

Here is how you find it:

-edit It should be under newly released demos now.

Xbox Live Marketplace -> Games -> All Game Downloads -> Tony Hawk Project 8

OR

Xbox Live Marketplace -> Games -> Games Download by Genre -> Sports -> Tony Hawk Project 8

--------------------------------------

I'm surprised that not alot of people are talking about Tony Hawk Project 8. It really seems like they nailed everything this time around.

An original seamless town, ditching the story elements, ragdolls physics, Chalk Challenges, RPG style leveling, puzzle-oriented challenge and Nail The Move.

THP8 sees the introduction of something Neversoft is calling Nail the Trick. By clicking down on both analog sticks, the camera will pan out to a close-up side view as the game slows to a crawl. The analog sticks then each control one of your feet and your board moves from being part of your animation to an actual physics object. By moving the sticks, you're able to independently control your feet to kick and tap your board into spins, rotations and more. There aren't any set moves here, so whatever sorts of tricks you can come up with you can perform. It looks to be a pretty awesome way of giving the player complete control over what they're doing and we can't wait to mess around with this ourselves

eh, after the original 4 THPS pretty much just went downhill. Hopefully, this time they can "Nail The Game" like they used to back in the day.

Rebuilding the game ground up sounds like a good deal so far, but really, whats new so far is the paragraph you mentioned. Everything else seems the same, so we need more details to decide if this game is worth hyping.

i was looking forward to this game till i saw the gameplay trailer and discovered that it isn't going to be "realistic". the game play looks just like the rest of the games, i.e. no gravity.

Eh, I stopped playing TH games after the 3rd one. I'll probably get this game when it gets cheap.

I think that the game looks pretty promising. I loved Tony Hawk 4, so hopefully this will be Neversoft's return to making great Tony Hawk games rather than the lacking THUG 1&2 / American Wasteland games. I just hope that this game is actually challenging.

Remember when Neversoft said they were taking a year off of making TH games....ROFL http://justinmg.home.comcast.net/forums/gsvery-happy.gif

Now onto business, I really loved the TH games hell the first game got me into skateboarding which I still do from time to time. It just seemed to me that after 3 they went downhill. 4 was good but Underground was terrible. I have always hoped they went for a more serious type of skating game were you weren't able to do crazy ass tricks. You would just do stuff that was realistic.

I want a demo before I purchase this. I made the mistake of buying THAW without looking at reviews. Tony I want my money back. Also this is the 8th game they really need to do something to change the franchise around. I would really like to see a sim type game. I want to be only able to do a 540 when I hit a small half pipe not a 1260 off a kicker.

I'm still under the belief that both THPS4 & THUG2 did not need to be made and that Neversoft should move the series to a bi-yearly franchise (similar to NBA Street).

The first 5 Tony Hawk games were pretty sweet, then it started going downhill. THUG2 was noticeably worse, and then THAW was even worse than that.

I hope this one doesn't disappoint, but it probably will.

I've plated every TH game except for 3. I think 4 was the worst offender. My conclusion is to not buy them at full price.
That being said, I'm really awating this new one to see how it turns out.

Demo coming October 20th (Friday):

TONY HAWK’S PROJECT 8 DEMO TO DEBUT ON

XBOX LIVE MARKETPLACE OCTOBER 20

Santa Monica, CA – October 19, 2006 – The competition to become a member of Tony Hawk’s elite skate team starts on your Xbox 360™ with the free Tony Hawk’s Project 8 demo available on Xbox Live® Marketplace Oct. 20.

Gamers can download the demo and hit the Concrete Park where they will experience some of the latest innovations in the #1 best selling action sports franchise from Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), including “Nail the Trick,” which gives players precision control over how their skater moves their feet to flip the skateboard; “Filmer” goals that require players to follow a cameraman and complete tricks that he calls out; and “Spot Challenges” which are ambient goals that players can access throughout the game world and complete as they choose.

Tony Hawk’s Project 8 is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment systems from Microsoft. The game is rated “T” by the ESRB and is scheduled for release in November.

I hear whispers that THP8 will be harder on SICK than all of the previous Tony Hawk games combined.

Which is good because I beat every goal in the story and Classic modes of THAW in 5 hours and two minutes.

Come to think of it, I beat THPS1, 2, 3, 4, THUG1, and THUG2 in one 24-hour long marathon. All goals in all modes on the hardest difficulties.

I've got some good hopes for this. THUG 2 is easily the worst out of the series for me (some of the shittest and un-fun level design I'd seen at the time). I enjoyed 3, 4 and THUG alot. THAW was alright...however, it pretty much held my hand the entire time, and I was able to beat the game in around 5 hours.

on a side note: THPS2 was the highest point in the series. From THPS3 the insanity began... and now we have a combo infested game.

I think he's in douchebag mode due to all of the problems they have been having lately.

Maintenances taking way longer then it should have, accidentally releasing a game that wasn't suppose to come out for a month (hooray sitting on finished games), publishers releasing press releases when they don't know the release schedule.

Add all of that on top of all of the traveling he's been doing and yeah.

I let it download while I was in the shower and gave it a spin before I had to leave for work...which is roughly now. ;)

It's hard to tell from such a short demo if this is the huge push forward that a lot of people feel the series needs, but I'm still pretty content with a couple new mini-innovations and new levels every year (provided I wait for a sub-$20 price). The whole level looks really good- what you'd expect from the 360, clean and well-modeled. I think the Nail the Trick thing works pretty well, but I don't know if I'll be using it all the time or if it will just be another gimmick that I throw onto the end of a huge combo because I've already used most of the other tricks.

Also, if I were Rodney Mullen, I'd be pretty pissed off with the way they modeled me in the game. He looks like the losing boxer after a round of Fight Night.

I have been a die hard THPS fan since game 1 and this to me is the best since game one(unless they are just pulling the wool over our eyes with the demo). Very smooth and not all Jackass like, which was really starting to get on my nerves. It was ok the first time but I really did not need to play it 2 more times......

Way better than the American Wasteland series from what I could get from the demo. I didn't like the semi-deformed/cartoon characters of the past few games. I hope they get rid of the horrible "other-wheeled" vehicle missions though. Those were hard to stomach.

The game feels basically like old Tony Hawk nothing crazy new(I think I'll have a lot of fun with the Wii Downhill Jam though) , still a very fun game cause I love Tony Hawk Series. The graphics are really nice and the nail the trick is pretty cool(Hard to get hang of , but a nice addition to the game). I know this game is running off a old build of the game and hope all the glitches I hit are fixed by now. I don't know if you guys had same problems as me , but sometimes while I was grinding I seem to just trip over myself and itsn't cause my balance was bad. So I'm not really sure what is up with that.

Left stick controls your left leg and the right stick controls your right leg.

You hold the stick(s) in the direction you choose to keep your legs out of the way.

If the trunks or grip tape are facing up you can move the stick which will alter your move.

When the grip tape is facing up you can let go of the stick(s) and your guy will land it.

It's quite fun once you get use to it.

All of Activision's other games are region free so I don't understand why they would start.

Be careful preordering though if by some fluke this isn't region free well you'd be stuck with it.

I read their reviews, their problems aren't really my problems... I enjoyed the level from the demo and I'm glad they are going back to a real world type of level structure.

The gameplay is solid and the goals look to go back to the days of early THPS, so I'm not going to cancel my order for this game anytime soon.

I'm not quite sure what IGN expected... I love how the reviewer says the game is "better than the dark days of THUG" but IGN themselves gave THUG 1 a 9.2 and THUG 2 an 8.4.

Overall I say wait for a price drop. Nail the trick is fun. The story is okay-decent, the game does offer a challenge, Unlike THAW. But $60 is way to much for a game thats only 50% new. This btw is coming from a Tony Hawk fan.

Its pretty, its on 360, but at the same time its still the same old same old. Good game play as always with Tony Hawk.
I'm not disappointed, or mad that I bought it, but was excepting more. Create a skater sucks (which of everything pissed me off the most) Create-a-skater is more like edit these 6 characters. Also the physics are alright. Sometimes I'll fly 30 feet down the road on a botched kickflip, but only fall on my face when trying to do a front flip off of a kicker.

Thats my mini review for right now. Now take what I say with a grain of salt. Due to the fact that I'm not far into the game. These are just my first impressions.

I agree with CitizenB's impressions. I've stayed away from the series after part four, so at first I liked it a lot. After the first hour or so, the "been there done that" feeling came over me. In this case it's not a bad thing, but it's not a good thing either. Some of the goals are gonna take some practice to accomplish so I'll be playing it for a while. If you're a fan of TH the Play Asia price is right, otherwise rent it or wait for a price drop.

That is awesome... to be honest, I played THUG 1 and 2 and American Wasteland and I just feel that trying to add some kind of outlandish story to the series really ruined them, along with some incredibly stupid objectives.

I mostly just played Classic mode, and wishing they made a game based off of that.

Now they have, where the story only serves as a purpose to shred things up, and they finally have the technology to make one giant open ended world.

All the reviews that are giving it low scores are just calling it "more of the same" but I have been dying for "more of the same" of THPS 1 - 4 for years now... I wish Outpost would hurry up and ship me my damn order!

Are there any secret characters yet? That's always one of the best parts.

The game has had ONE cutscene at the beginning and the rest of the game has been skating and goals. It is so awesome.

Also, the emphasis on leaving your board has been reduced by a ton... you can still get off the board but it's not such a large part of the series, it's all about being on the board on this one.

is this turned into the official game topic?

If so I want to talk about chances for THPS9.

I am hoping for a return to the ways of THPS1-4. Where it is level based and not a giant open level. I also don't want to create a character. I want to start off choosing between Tony Hawk, Ryan Scheklar, Stevie Williams, Daewon Song, Bam Margera, Bob Burnquist, Mike Valley. Make the game more about the pros and not so much making "yourself a pro.

Change it to classic style, have single levels, a 5:00 minute time limit, and a checklist of say 15 goals per level. Find the secret tape, get a high score, pro score, sick score, high combo, collect skate and combo, then a bunch of other level goals.

I just miss that feel from THPS1 where you would keep running the same line over and over until you finally hit it just right with enough speed to make it up to the secret tape.

There is classic 2 minute timed sessions in Project 8 with 10 goals per checklist, with all the things you just named... the real challenge comes from doing them all in one run. I just did the Suburbia one, all 10 goals in one run in 1:42, got my shiny achievement for it and it took about two hours  Try finding the perfect line to get all 10 goals finished in under 2 minutes, and that feeling from THPS 1 should return.

The one in Suburbia is called Property Values, if you want to check it out. You have to get the three scores, find the missing DVD, get skate, get combo, and then do some other miscellaneous crap.

I've wanted the game to go back to using the pro's for a long time now instead of creating your own character but I think the majority likes it the way it is.

Likewise, I don't think we'll ever go back to single levels now that a seamless non loading world can be done... I'd rather have it this way though, I like it alot better. I also like alot of goals in that alot of the sick scores actually take some challenge, rather than just "Breaking 5 things to get a goal".

I really haven't seen a goal yet that wasn't about skating in some form, which is a huge improvement over recent Tony Hawk games.

Having a scoreboard for each goal was an awesome idea too. I'm #44 in the world for Property Values!

This game is way better than American Wasteland. This isn't an amazing game, however. If I had to give it a numerical rating, I'd give it a 7.

Wasn't there supposed to be facemapping with the vision camera for this game? Create a skater on this is worse than previous versions big time.

i'm not trying to sound like a biggot, but most of you are playing this game from a gamers stand-point. coming from a skater's standpoint, the game appears to really be unrealistic. at first glance i thought it would be a breath of fresh air, but it's soonly turning into a version of repetitive, unrealistic challenges, comparable to THUG2.

I take it you've never liked any THPS game then, since, from a skater's standpoint, they all must be pretty unrealistic.

I don't even remember when THPS games touted realism as a strong point.

the best realistic gaming title was Thrasher: Skate and Destroy for PS1... after that, skating went to insanity (I still remember a skating game that had boss fights cosisting of the player killing huge bugs for the PS2...?).

haha well the other tony hawks, like THPS1 and 2 are awesome. in American wasteland, there was a sense of realism with Auto Kick off.THUG1 was pretty realistic, the story was badass and the areas were rad too because most of them were just like city type places. i don't really go crazy in the game unless it's for challenges or whatever, then when i play free-skate i play realistic. it's looking hard to play realistic judging by how some of the levels look. i mean, they've already done suburbia in past games, they've already done the school, and who the fuck wants to skate in a foundry/factory again like in THPS3? i sure as hell know that i don't.

I am pretty darn pissed. Somehow, my save file disappeared. I was doing fine, about 6 hours into career mode, played multiplayer with Brak for a bit. Two days later, I go to play again, and there's no "Continue" option. I keep trying to load, but all I can do is start a new career. I really don't want to do that. That just sucks. Project 8 is worth just that to me -- an 8 out of 10 -- but I still was having fun and wanted to keep it up.

Oh well...it's not like there's nothing else to play. I would've liked to beat it, though; I was too far and too pissed to start all over.

Anyone else experience this at all?

I think I did, actually...

When I first played the game, after creating my custom skater, I beat the entire tutorial (see achievements), saved (or, at least, I swear I did...) and called it a night.

The morning I played with you, I noticed that my save was gone. Thankfully, I didn't do any of the single-player portion, so I didn't lose anything, other than my custom skater and my finishes on the tutorial portion of the game.

Like I said, I swear I saved that shit...

Since THPS3 the series has had minor changes, so of course I stopped buying the game. This go around might be different with the addition of "Nail The Trick". This mode is what TH is all about and is a breath of fresh air for the series. Finally Neversoft is back to making innovative changes instead of tweeking old shit.

is this turned into the official game topic?

Ahh...I know what you mean. The good ol' days. It's like perfection only gets hit what, maybe once or twice (4 with tweaks and bumps and pushes in this case). Still, to see next gen graphics on a classic true to school tony game would be awesome. Wasteland was weak, but at least it played nicely on the DS for some quick and intermediate DS play

Picked this up last weekend after borrowing it from a friend in November. I'm lovin it so far, only the 3rd Tony Hawk I've ever owned. I got the 1st one for my birthday the year it came out, and bought 3 when it was $10 at EB.

My only problem with this is the goals that don't really have much to do at all with actual skating, for example the hilltop falling one with the gates. I see no way how that's possible even with practice. I mean, I can't even get AM on it, and when I read other people's stories of how they got it they say they got lucky and his a glitch and just walked through them then found a way to crash for the however high hospital bill.

I'd love to play some online sometime, just shoot me a friend request or invite anytime.

Wow, I've read so many great reviews for this game. Hmm....really makes me want it.

Ah, see, if I had to rate it I'd easily go for a 9 or a 9.5... alot of the sick goals are really challenging and there is such a sense of accomplishment pulling off some incredibly hard shit.

SteveMcQ

I hate the damn hospital bill goals as well. It just doesn't make sense. I'll take what looks to be a really gnarly (to use proper skating terms) fall and I'll get less broken bones and hospital bill than another fall that doesn't seem so brutal. And the downhill one through gates--I was able to actually guide my character down, but only good enough for the Amateur level. I don't know how I'll ever get the Pro or even the sick one in that.

There's just some sickeningly difficult Sick objectives as well, especially the Classic ones where in order to get the Sick rating, you have to finish what sometimes amounts to over 12 tasks in a run of say 3 minutes.

A glitch I've run into: I was able to get the achievement points for beating Bam's Pro Challenge without ever having to do any of his challenges. You don't actually clear him from the goals, but you do get the achievement points. (Which came as a surprise, 'cause I'm not good enough to do the sickeningly long grind line he has you do for the first run.)

Anyway, once you start up his challenge he has you grinding this long line collecting 16 icons all in one run. What I ended up doing in trying to get to the top and working my way down the line triggered that challenge as complete. Just skate down to the right side of the map (if you're entering from the school yard) down where the quarter pipes are next to the huge smokestack like building. Skate back and forth up and down the ramps vert-style and it'll just kick you to the next challenge and give you the achievement without any of the work. The wonky thing is that once the next Bam challenge starts, it freezes, but you can still opt to quit out of the challenge.

Needless to say, I'm stuck 'cause I just can't figure out how I'm ever going to be able to do that one grind run to clear challenge one.

I just rented this game and while it is indeed awesome and a great addition to the TH franchise and great improvement over recent titles in the series, the difficulty in this game is definitely marring it from great status. There is something fucking wrong with those Sick goals. I have only gotten two, one was getting the air in the pool at the school and the other was by some glitch/getting lucky.

I'm actually getting happy with just getting Amateur on some of these missions.

The rag doll physics are fun, but I really don't care for the hospital bills as I can go flying to 50 fucking cartwheels and magically not break enough bones to get Sick or even come close to Pro level. The missions are fun though.

Anybody can help with the school classic twins challenge. I can get the scores and skate mostly, but can't figure out how to let the kids out and how to stop the noise thing

Sick goals are for the best of the best... they are hard for a reason, but they also optional, so you don't have to mess with them if you don't want to. They also get easier once you've built your stats up a ton.

Getting Sick on the Classic challenges... now THAT'S hard as hell. I was only able to do it on Suburbia.

Technically they aren't optional. To get to spot 4, you have to have 80% of the challenges beaten at Pro/Sick difficulty. To get to spot 1, you have to have 100% of the challenges beaten at Sick and find 100% of the gaps. Fuck that.

Well, yea, they aren't optional if you want to 100% the game, but if you just want to do everything there is and unlock everything you can just beat the game on Amateur / Pro.

Pro isn't that hard at all, though, and Sick isn't so bad once you max out your stats... I've gone back and done alot of challenges on Sick no problem.

Now, getting Sick on the Classic challenges? That's hard as fuck, I won't lie there. Having to do all 10 goals in two minutes? Almost impossible. The developers were out of their minds when they programmed the code/game to be this difficult. It takes the fun out of the game. I really wish they would bring it back to the classic THPS with the competitions. That was so much more fun. They messed with perfection and now they are trying to get it back. Don't get me wrong, this game is phenomenal and very much fun and actually the best TH game in long while, but it pisses me off about Sick.

The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked (well unless it is a really stupid question ;) ).

Is it starting them off well? I have played since before they introduced them to the series so I am really good. I found that jumping into the (in the air hit updown or downup) was easier than rolling into them. Slomo should help a bit.

I agree, this is the most difficult Tony Hawk game ever. In the past, I've been able to complete all the goals without ever using focus. I don't think I'm going to be able to do that with this one and so it is completely changing the way I play these games. I'm determined to get all the sicks though, it just might take me a while.

And like others have said, feel free to invite me to a game if you see me playing this. I've rarely gotten into the multiplayer portions of the Tony Hawk games, but it could be a welcome relief after repeating these sick goals over and over.

I just settled for Pro on most challenges, I think I got sick on like 20% of the challenges and then 65% are on pro, rest where all AM which I am in the process of trying to do better in.

I just skate around trying to find new gaps and such and if I see a challenge I only got AM on I do it and try for pro on it. I even found a nail the trick challenge the other day I somehow missed in the school. I'm at spot #6 and basically at that point you should have every challenge in the game completed, so thats why I was shocked to find a challenge I haven't even attempted.

Tony Hawk has never really been realistic. My bet is that skate will do dual analog flip tricks in slomo just like P8-meaning it will be copying it.

Thats better than having to grind from the top of a 5 story building to a bench then manual 100 ft and do a 900 melon just to beat some stupid challenge....The only part i like is when you go into focus mode and pull off a flip trick to some kind of grind...The nail the trick isnt bad either but still unrealistic

All of yall complain that its not realistic but will probably bitch if they did make it realistic cause it will have to use seemingly cheap tactics to make it "realistic"... i agree that they should have a mode in there but just so that people will stop bitching about it...

Realistic will mean

Grinds and manuals wont last more then a second or two... so even if you balance perfect it will auto matically end your grind/manual after a set amount of time ... and how will they determine that? the recond for grinding?? skaters get better every day.. that figure will keep changing...and what will decide what direction you go or what your character will do when he/she ends their grind suddenly

Combos will be restricted to 3 tricks
Kickflip in - Grind or Manual for a second or two - Kick flip out
i have never seen any skater in any skate video do more then that...how will they stop you from that fourth trick ?? auto bail? should they just make it really hard....even if they do figure out a good way to do it, The goal system will be restricted to just a fraction of what it is now... so its a very short game or drawn out repetative game two choices

Character will start off not knowing how to olie... part of what keeps you going in a game is constant progression of your character... so realistically you should start off not knowing how to olie as this is a very complex move ....it should be one of the first tricks you learn after burt slide and tic tac'ing...i wonder how many gamers are gonna throw down there controllers in disgust after a minute of tryng to olie on to a ledge...

all that being said you can skate realistically if you want... it just wont get you you very far in the game... i do it all the time... pick a spot and just have fun doing little 3 move combos... or hit up gaps that don`t seem too impossible...the only thing that makes this game unrealistic is that it gives you the option to keep it going... if you dont think its realistic to pull off a 1080 off a kicker... don`t do it...if you think 50 move combos are impossible ... don't do it... seems so simple... but teh game makes me do it!! no it doesn`t ... you don`t have to constantly pull off crazy tricks to keep playing the game... just pick a spot and have fun 3 move comboing your way around... hitting up all the amature goals if you want, most of them seem doable... and you should be able to unlock a lot of areas that way ...

All in all i like this game a lot... i would love this game to the point of being disturbing if they would fix the damn framerate issues and added an instant replay feature... i would kill to see the last two minutes of my run... hell the last 30 seconds would have been cool... i dont care about the customizing features i`m sure the next game will let you put your own face (or ass if your a sick bastard) in the game and design a bail even... but i just want fluid motion and a chance to see that dope ass move i just pulled off in slow motion while i hit the bong... is that so much to ask?

my only problem with the THPS series is as it went along its gotten more arcadey as it goes along, at least in the first one you had to work to get better and pulling off 900s was actually challenging, in the THP8 demo I rolled off about 4 900's in a combo.

In tony hawk you can ollie about 6 feet....you can reverrt manual and keeps things going thats not realistic. Skaters should be more distinct to their style. Prod shouldnt be able to pull of the same vert tricks as hawk and hawk shouldnt be a great street skater. They could easily make it realistic. Grinds could be harder, manuals shouldnt last 100ft. You shouldnt be able to land a 100ft drop etc....

This is the Tony Hawk that we all have come to know and the majority would bitch that it doesn't play like Tony Hawk.

Not sure if I even wanna keep going with the career mode though since I'm quite certain I'll never attain that number 1 ranking. The Sick goals are just insane.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I just got THP8. Does anybody know how to get the 500,000 point combo acheivement? I've pulled it off many times, but always in free roam, and it never gives it to me. What do I do?!?!

I believe you have to do it in the session mode or something, I forget what it's called but the timed one.

ya don't play in career. I think on the main menu there is a game mode where you play like a timed 3 minute session or something like that. You get the 500k combo there, as well as the 1 million total score.

I totally forgot I have this game still sealed from that CostCo sale a while back. Now, should I open it or trade it in for some credit or trade here...hmm.

very awesome game, if you don't at least play it, then, well. You fail. It is, IMO. The best Tony Hawk game ever.

QFT. They really nailed this one. It's still in my rotation stack to unlock some more achievements. It's been a blast.

I've got the beat-a-developer achievement, so if anybody wants to play on-line sometime to unlock it by beating me, PM me. I got it by beating someone who beat a developer, but I think it ought to trigger for you by beating me.

I still play the demo of this game religiously, but I still can't come around to buying it, with so many other games higher on my list of priority.

I actually borrowed the game from a friend awhile back and made Project 8, but I only had it for about a week, so I barely have any achievements for it at the moment.

Once it drops to $30, I'll definitely consider picking it up.
