I just learned that I'm getting a new PC, and I want to know which version of FFXI is better. I prefer a PS2 controller, but how do the graphics compare?

There isn't a comparison. Assuming you have a decent setup, no console game should look better than a PC game. Mainly because the cycle between video cards is much more frequent than the cycle between video game consoles.

You could always get a USB converter to use your PS/PS2 controller on your PC.

Well you can plug ps2 controllers into you gc using a usb adapter. There are many out there if you search. I am not sure which is the one to get. But this way you can have the best of both worlds, controller and graphics.

Here is one I found, not sure if its any good, maybe others can help you with which is the best one to get.

Well I have always been a console gamer, but FFXI does look a whole lot better on PC (depending on what you have of course). I'm still gonna play the PS2 (cause Sony is giving it to me...yay beta testing :) ), but even if I had not gotten it for free I would still have waited for the PS2. I don't know....I just like my games on a console...I don't think it's just me, but you never know.

I think I agree with you more than anyone else. I just feel more....comfortable when I'm gamin' on a console. I guess I'll just wait for the PS2 version. Besides, the graphics are still pretty damn sweet.

It actually runs a bit better on PS2, some special effects look better (probably PS2 Specific filters or something) animation is a little faster (not much but you'll feel a touch sluggish swinging your sword on PC).

If you dont have the higest end PC you;ll probably have to lower a graphic setting for the best frame rate you can get, where as there is no setting on the PS2 and it runs as good as it can.

Honestly aside from that, your play experience wont be any different between the two. The interfaces are EXACTLY the same but the PC controllers out there arent anywhere near on par with a dual shock 2(I strongly suggest if its a choice between keyboard and controller, pick controller).

My experience comes from being a part of the PS2 beta and buying the PC version afterwards. When I get my HDD I'm pretty sure I'll be playing more on that than my computer, but if you can run it on you PC and it's a cheaper option for you you wont be dissapointed even on lower graphic settings.

(but you might want to turn off the animated character selection on PC.)

yeah it's probably why it crashes my computer! Super high-poly models compared to the ingame models

Yeah, now I'm DEFINITLY getting the PS2 version. And I learned yesterday that the PC version is a port of the PS2 version. No lie.
