I read the sticky and even posted IN the sticky thread. I was told to make a topic so I could get some better answers..so here it is :P

I have wi-fi in my house (I use it for my computer and my DSlite). If/when I get a 360, is it complete/simple that I can just load it up and search for an access point (Like how going online w/ the DS works) or do I need something else--if so, what and how much?

Here's the thing. I have a computer in my room and my TV/video games are right next to the computer. Would it be easier to connect my computer straight to the 360, or is wi-fi still a gooc choice?
A few years ago when I had an Xbox, I had my own internet in my room. I had cable internet that I paid for (my parents PC still had dial up downstairs) and so I did the whole thing of plugging the Xbox into the PC and cable modem (or whatever that was)
I don't have a modem in here now, since my parents got DS months ago and now I share a connection via wi-fi.

I'm just looking for the easiest way that I would be able to hook up a 360 to the internet. I DO prefer wi-fi, but if it's some work or have to buy stuff..then nevermind!

Thanks for any help that I get in advance.

Well, you have to get a wireless adapter for the 360 to work on Wifi first. Once you do, you just go into the 360 connection area, and search, and all avaible access points come up. From there you just connect and you're done! :D

Hope that helps.

Oh well that sounds simple--but what exactly would I be looking for?

Your wireless router. Like when I was at college, 5-6 points would come up, and I'd just choose the router in my dorm.

I need this, and that's all I need?
If so.. God damn at $100! LOL

You can use that, or there are other alternatives.

100.00 is pretty steep... you could always get a job at BestBuy, I hear with employee discount its super cheap :-p

Hey I don't quite get what you mean by that?

And yeah--to your other post, I had a feeling there would be another way around it. $100 is pretty steep!

Yeah, I'm looking for a wireless connection with my 360 and the thought of paying $100 for an adapter just...its...I just threw up in my mouth a little. I'm going to have to get a deal on it, there's no way in holy hell I'm paying that much for an adaper.

I'm going broke trying to get my 360 set up:

$350 xbox premium - overstock
$85 Tomb Raider: Legend, Table Tennis, Perfect Dark Zero CE
$40 extra wireless controller (used, gamestop)
$20 Kameo

~ $500

and now I want to get some Marketplace points, a year of XBL, and hook this baby up wirelessly. Switching cables between my computer and system everytime is annoying.

Ok. So then I won't need any accessories???? Because I have a wireless router!

Ok I THINK Im getting this. Tell me if I'm wrong/correct me please.

That $100 adapter is for people who have high speed internet, but no wireless connections going on. Just like how Nintendo sells that Wireless USB thing adapter for the people with the same problem?

So since I DO have a wireless connection because my computer and my DSlite both go online from that--All I'd need to do is just go search for an access point and I'm set?

Im sure it probably depends on the router my parents have! So I have go to check the router they have, then find some list (most likley on xbox.com) and hope that it's a match. If NOT, I'd have to get the wireless adapter--OR I can just connect my PC to the 360 with ethernet cables?

Again--I don't have a modem in my room. Would I still be able to connect the PC & Xbox together for live connection?

I think I got it now. Am I right or still confused??

Not quite, that 100.00 adapter is built into the DS in a way...see what I mean? The adapter gives the 360 the ability to connect wirelessly.

If you want to conect wirelessly, you need that adapter

The adapter plugs into the 360, not your computer

The wireless adapter is used to detect the wireless router. Once you have an wireless adapter on your X360, turn the system on, and it will search for nearby routers/access points. Yours should have some sort of name, find it, choose it, youre done.

ooooh, ok I get it now.
Man that's ghetto! Why couldn't they have installed in with the 360! Grrr..
But I don't know when I'm getting a 360, so hopefully by then it'll be cheaper

Here's a list of compatible ones straight from MS:

Wireless Bridges (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/)

The following wireless bridges have earned the Xbox Live Compatible logo.
MicrosoftSupported FirmwareWireless Standards
MN-740 (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/msmn740.htm) 1.0.2.21 and later 802.11g/b

LinksysSupported FirmwareWireless Standards

WGA54G (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/linksyswga54g.htm) 1.10 802.11g/b
WGA54AG 1.0 802.11a/g/b
WGA54G (v2) 1.6 802.11a/g/b

You should be able to find them cheap after rebates or on eBay. Good Luck!

I found one used for $70. Check the store locator on Gamestop.com for the used version of the wireless adapter. I used my Edge card or whatever and got it for $63.

I think there's also a cheaper third-party adapter you can use. I'm not sure on the specifics though.

Thank you, I didn't even think of that. Found one in my area that I'm going to snag later. It's still pricey, but better than having some giant ugly wireless bridge clogging up my TV stand.

The device I'm using for my Xbox and PS2 is the Linksys WAP54G, which you can pick up for $57 AR from Buy.com.

Since I already had a Linksys router, it was very simple to bridge them together and get them to talk. With a single Ethernet port, I just needed to hang an Ethernet switch off of it to hook up multiple devices.

The third party one I've only seen at BB, and it's $20 (or $30) less than the MS one, and it doesn't have 802.11a like the MS adapter, it's 802.11b/g only.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with the MS adapter for $63 with my GS Card. That's a decent savings, and I don't mind buying it used. I have a wireless modem/router from Comcast (hate them), so we already have the signal in the house. My neighbor also keeps his network open for us to use, so I'll be all set. Thanks guys.

Some wireless routers offer a bridge mode and can be found very cheaply. A Zyxel model was $10 AR at CompUSA recently.
