View Full Version : Marcus Fenix from Gears Of War Sending out Messages through XBL

Viral Marketing. A strategy that MGS is not completely unfamiliar with. They taught us how to love bees and the ancient art of Origami. They’re at it again this week. This time certain posters from the IGN Insiders boards (http://boards.ign.com/xbox_360_general_board/b8266/123063074/p1/?5) got a strange messages on Xbox Live (http://www.xboxic.com/news/1334#) from the Gears of War main character. The first message stated ‘We need your help. Can’t talk now. Don’t know who to trust. Will send more tomorrow.’, sent by an account named ‘MFenix’ (after Marcus Fenix). This probably has something to do with an recent announcement (http://www.xboxic.com/news/1322), made by Epic’s Mark Reign, stating that there would be a BIG Gears announcement made this week.
Mark confirmed the strange Xbox Live messages on the official Gears forum; ‘I got other reports of this same thing happening today. I think you should wait until tomorrow and see if this MFenix character, whoever it is, sends you another post. If he does please come back here and let us know what he says as soon as possible.’, he said.

Nobody knows what this is all about, could it be the Gears of War releasedate (even though Mark Reign hinted that the announcement wouldn’t be the releasedate)? Could it be a demo?

No, that's next week. I'm hoping for a demo too, maybe we can beta test the live feature for them so that they can have it ready by launch ;)

At first I wasn't looking forward to this game, but more I read about it, the more I want to play it. I just wish I got a message from this guy. :(

Same. Around the time of initial announcement, I was only annoyed because they were pushing UT2007 for PS3, while the 360 only got Gears of War. After seeing how GoW is shaping up though, I couldn't care less about UT2007. The UT games have been pretty weak outside of PC versions anyway.

Wow, I totally am. It is just that everything lately from MS comes late. There was supposed to be a big announcement last week. I find it funny that it is anotehr thing late. Goddamn you are such a tool sometimes.

i'll admit that i was somewhat of a fool for Halo 2 when it came out, the hype and everything that it was based around, Ilovebees and anything promotion wise, shit i stood in line for the game even though i had it on pre-order,but needless to say, im feeling the same way about Gears of War, im really looking for it to make other companies step up the game and not make shit anymore. That and the game itself has had some good promotional kick behind it. Cliffy B represent......please.
