Excerpt

"Nibris adds another significant detail – Sadness is not going to have any Menu. “We aim at completely intuitive behaviour of the player – just as in life. Every choice a player makes is essential – if you experience traumatic events in your life, they are in you all the time. The same is going to be with Sadness. We want the player feel he participates in events, not only a game” . The game will also have a saving system which is going to be invisible for a player. Operations by Wii controller are going to be completely intuitive.

This is either going to suck, or be vagina-good. Check the link for enemy concept art and more details.

It sounds interesting to say the least... but the question, as you've already (indirectly) stated, is if they'll be able to pull it off right.

I wish they'd show us some real screens already.

Yeah. I just really, really want this to be good.

Thanks as always, RF! You're doing fine work out there.

My hype-o-meter is really pinging for Sadness. If Nibris doesn't pooch it, this is looking like GOTY material.

And something a Western Developer can be PROUD of, perhaps on par with an excellent Japanese game. Maybe it will serve as an example to say to Western Devs. that THIS is how you make a game, don't hold back. We've already been too shamed by Western Devs. where most should not show their FACES in a room with Sega, Nintendo, Atlus or the like. Like I said, I hope this bucks the trend.

Not that I don't want this to be good, but you guys are putting WAY too much faith in a tiny Polish developer who may or may not have even developed for a console at this point (and who has just farmed out the majority of the development work to a conglomerate of contractors).

Due to the scale of the project Nibris invited some recognized development teams to cooperate. FRONTLINE Studios Inc. will be responsible for programming – a team of 30 people with large experience in Nintendo platforms. Digital Amigos will take care for the visual side of the game; it is a company specialised in graphics of games (e.g. Painkiller) and movies. Many psychologists and creators of horrors were invited to the making of the game.

I'm not even sure what Nibris themselves are taking care of at this point besides interfacing with Atlus or whoever their publisher is.

having a few screenshots or a brief video as evidence that it actually exists would be what needs to be emerging

Botticus I have to have faith in this because I LIKE independent film product and it's especially heartening to see it in gaming. I'm also interested in the fate they cite Phantasmagoria as an influence. Planetscape I could give a fuck about since I'm pretty sure it's a shitty game since it's MMO from a PC game company, those being scant on plot.

While I'll admit that we can't trust NIBRIS since they haven't created anything and there's a very good chance it'll suck but I think it's hard to deny that they have some very unique ideas for a horror game (key word here: some). And I for one, am glad to see work from smaller companies as they usually deliver new IPs.

I think you misread a quote somewhere, one of their influences is Planescape, one of the better PC Rpgs to ever be created.
