Dammit, there's no Walmart within like an hour of my house. It's a shame, Mario Golf for $10 would have been great.

Wow, those are some great deals. It's too bad Walmart clearance deals are on a store by store basis so most stores probably won't have those prices :(

Very definitely YMMV. Remember, I Work for Wal-Mart, in the electronics department. Most of our video games are marked as either non-replenishable or deleted, which means we won't get any more automatically, the suppliers will have to reorder manually, and they won't, generally.
However, I do know that the Home Office isn't letting -anyone- clearance anything out at the moment without their authorization, and beyond that, I've been told (at least at our store) that we're not allowed to clearance Video games.
Which sucks major things, IMO.

I know someone that works at Wal-Mart as well and I was there today.
The BS meter is pretty high atm. Department Managers can't do this without consent from home office. I guess theres going to be a fired department manager pretty soon.

alongx, I don't know how you get away with not having a Walmart within an hour. I have 5 within 15 minutes and I don't live in a very big city. Anyway, none of the 5 EVER have the deals on video games but I'll have to check tomorrow just in case, those prices would be too good to resist.

Guess that explains why everytime I walk in there there is an ever growing $19.82 videogame rack. It's going to take up the whole electronics section pretty soon. The Walmart's near me ALL need to clearance their videogames. A lot of those games will not sell at $20.

I can confirm those prices. Although my local Wal-mart's clearance shelf is about empty now.
I posted this earlier this week:

This is definetely YMMV, they had them designated in a behind the case fashion. The electronics people have been dropping the price like mad all week. The case was full and now its mostly empty. This deal is in Northern Cali in a little place called Salinas.

I'm not sure I'd call Salinas NorCal... seems a little south to me. Hopefully they have these prices even farther up north in the East Bay Area.

06-14-2004, 12:30 AM
Ok you may think I am lying, but that does not change the fact that I got games for ass cheap.
Manhunt for 24 on xbox.
Ratchet and Clank GC for 20
Ico 7
VF Evolution 5
Sphinx 7
Ghoulies 7
Freedom Fighters under 10
Metal Arms 7

I was at my local Wal-mart and I can say that they had no games at such prices. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me....
JJShady128
06-14-2004, 12:31 AM
Well, I pretty much have nothing to prove by lying to everyone. I'd show a receipt, but they all have only the skus as opposed to the actual game title on them.

06-14-2004, 01:05 AM
So are all these games marked at $5, $7, etc. or are they marked at $19.82 and you have to ring them up to find the sale?
JJShady128
06-14-2004, 01:07 AM
They were marked with big red tags. They really wanted to get rid of them. They had to. They spend like 2 times a week there marking down everything. Sometimes they miss some though and thats how I got Amped for 3.50. It was marked 7 before I took it up.

Maybe in the fall.
I went today at about 7:45 PM. There was:
.Hack (3rd one I think) $10
Metroid Prime (couple left) $7.00
Rebel Strike (couple left) $7.00
Westlemania 18 and 19 $10 and $7 (respectively)
Wild arms 3 $7
PN 003 $14
Jet Set Radio Future (1 copy)$10
Some old sports games and some other games, nothing too memorable.
Not much left!

Yeah this is going to be extreme YMMV.
Wal-Mart has been badly in need of a CC/Target like clearance sale for sometime, but some of those prices are insane.
Unless we start seeing this elsewhere, I second the notion that a Dept Manager is about to get fired hard.

yeah, you get some not-so-bright managers at wal-mart and they clearance things when they don't know what they are doing. at one wal-mart i know about, a manger clearanced a bunch of TI-85 calculators for $5 each! those things cost $100!

06-14-2004, 01:02 PM
I don't think there is such a thing as a dumb dept. manager or the likes. I mean, even a child who has even touched a TI-85 knows it costs more than $5. Consumer products come and go, and some pay full price, some pay cleareanced price (I am not a breath of fire fan, and I didn't care a penny about BoF V until it was $7 at CC). Elastic and inelastic demand, coupled with supply and demand. Ever wonder why CC never publicly announces $5-10 games or even tag it? Why they lower a game to $7-10 bucks, but then right when word gets around the nation, everyone starts buying it up, they raise it right away to $12-15, in which the latecomers will still say "Hey, it's better than paying $20 for it! I'll take it!" Elastic/Inelastic demand. It's actually the opposite of being dumb, lazy, or unorganized. Remember, when you have a small consumer base to deal with (CAGers :p) you are more flexible in changing prices on a day-to-day basis.
Anyway, I'm in Minnesota and I'm going to go check out the new wal-mart on University ave. It's freaking huge! ANd it doesn't even have the "Super" on the logo. If it's not here, chances are, it hasn't hit midwest yet. Be back to report.

I didn't see these crazy deals, but I did see that Halo was now at a low $19.99. That's pretty good, but that same Wal-Mart had Halo priced at $13 last December. Needless to say, I snagged a copy as soon as I saw it then.

Best Buy (at least mine) has had Halo for 2 weeks @ 19.99...
The tag still says 29.99, but it rings up 19.99

Wish I lived closer to Salinas. Checked around this morning in two sacramento area wal-marts. No dice. everything was msrp basically. also the clearance bin had nothing but mostly 2002 or older sports games that were only marked down to 15. Waste of gas, but at least I picked up a DVD to make up for the drive.

I checked this out too, I'm guessing it's just the one store. They had some of those games but they were all marked at $19.92. Somoene might want to check to see if they ring up for less and are just marked wrong, but I doubt it. They only had an old James Bond game marked with a red tag at $16, still not a really great deal.
On a side note if anyone finds worms 3d for $10 and RE 0 for $7 I'd be mighty interested.

i consider 8 miles local. i have a walmart 8 miles in either direction of me. then two 30 minutes away. and i'm sure there is one in this other area that i never visit.
i'm gonna check my walmart tonight and see what's up. though, there are no CAGs in my area, so i can't really help you too much. it's nice to be the only CAG in my general area, though there isn't much to find.

I went back today and it was all wiped out. I took my tons of receipts to the front for price corrections on the games I already bought. They gave me 23 bucks back because some of my games got marked down more before they were totally liquidated. I think Metroid got knocked down to like a buck because all of the games had to be out today I guess. I got half my money back for Kirby Air Ride so that only cost me 8 bucks. I am not sure what you are implying but I am pretty sure that the cost of visiting my site for 5 minutes or less is a lot less hassle and expense that taking the time to drive over to a Walmart and spending money on gas.
I can't recall ever posting a deal that was only good for 10 minutes. What would be the point. Every single deal I post or create is something I try to have enough to sell to everyone. Bait and switch not only doesnt work well on the web but it jeapardizes customer relations.

Whoa, Defender. You're cool, you're cool. I was referring to EB Games and their MMTN, 1080 Avalanche, and Wario World sale. Your site is a great market for videogames, and your prices are right down there with, if not better, than any other gaming site out there. I especially appreciate the deals that you post here on CAG for us. Please do not take offense to my post; it was directed at EB... I will edit it as so.

I live about 10 blocks from a Wal-Mart. Never any clearance stuff. I try to check whenever I go there though, because you never know.

All walmarts are locally controlled (as in walmart corporate doesn't hold any power in managing the store). Basically, all that corporate does is link the stores with their distribution network and price breaks. Once the merchandise hits the floor it's up to the store/department managers to decide mark downs.
There is no bullshit involved, it's simply independent markdowns from an aggressive set of management (maybe to boost department sales figures?). This may or not be related to shelf space and sales.

My local Walmart had 2 Xbox controller S's, a few madcatz starter kits (for ps2 xb and gc) and some sony controllers. All on "clearance" TWO WHOLE DOLLARS OFF! (from 19.99 to 17.49 LOL)
They did have a couple Music Mixers (xb) clearanced for $12.00.
Sorta sad actually. This is a small town walmart; they have games that are years old that still ring at 20+ but i check every once in a while.

I really don't look towards WalMart as my place for game buying... the prices just aren't appealing enough for me...

this is extreme YMMV! I've been to 4 area Wal-Marts and nothing even remotely close to those deals shown. Great find if they are actually legit!

In Washington the closest one to me is about 45 minutes away. It's nice. I don't have to deal with them.

Actually, those controller prices for the xbox controller s are pretty good, theyre msrp is $29.99, so its $12.50 off.

:( The fun is over with Wal Mart now, but at least I took my receipt back and got 23 bucks back for all that I bought because of further price reductions.

Bottom line is that these people AREN'T lying. A while back I was getting all sorts of great deals at Wal-Mart and even managed to purchase PSO and Buffy for the XBox at $10. If you want proof I'll take a pic of the two extra NEW PSO's I bought to sell. Sadly enough one of them appears to be shrinkwrapped and the other is in original fantory wrap but both seem to be sealed with the XBox sticker.
Also I can name more. I DID get a deal on Phantom Crash for $19 on XBox.
Oh and I forgot to mention that either a department manager messed with the price or national and I'm guessing department and he got fired or something happened because I THINK they may still have had a copy of PSO left or something because now it's at the $40 price range and won't budge.
