I don't really know much about it, but from what I've seen it looks pretty cool. Go to the site and watch the promotional video and share your thoughts:

This was a preview before the system came out... Wow I had wondered where the game went. It may be good. I am keeping an eye out for this for sure.

That's my reasoning for Summon Night, but I'm waiting on reviews for a cell phone game port.

The game's a dungeon crawler. Prepare to be bored (for the first twenty minutes, anyway). I was hoping for something more like Shadowgate.

This is coming out in a couple days. Anyone review it yet?

Just RPGamer... http://www.rpgamer.com/games/other/nds/deeplab/reviews/deeplabstrev1.html

And EGM reviewed it as well but the scores were terrible. Someone posted them in the Gen Gaming discussion in the September EGM thread.

That's too bad, I was hoping we'd get some good RPGs on the DS but so far M&L PiT stands alone. Hopefully Contact won't be a dissappointment, not to mention FFIII and Children of Mana.

Just saw the EGM scores - those are God-awful! I guess I'll keep hope alive seeing as it's published by Atlus, and I'm usually very happy with what they decide to publish here (i.e. Summon Night).

There is a rather huge split in the EGM scores though with two being in the threes and one being a respectable 7.5. I think this could be a game like Lost Magic that really resonates with some people while others hate it.

I heard there was a blog post from the 7.5 reviewer that said it was a mistake and should really be a 6.5. Either way, I'm still excited for the game and it may still interest me enough to pick it up.

It looks like it'll be... well, hit or miss. One of those "You like it or you hate it" games. For example, RPGamer hated it, EGM gave it a mixed review (2.0, 3.0, 6.5/7.5), and I think Famitsu gave it high scores. I forget.
Eitherway, I view it like I do Lost Magic. I'll pick it up at around $10-20.

EDIT: Well, I found the review, and I was wrong. Famitsu only gave it a 26/40, a rather 'meh' score. Oh well. Doesn't change my outlook any.

Mitsuda's doing the soundtrack so I am sold if I can get it for less than $30. Since this is an Atlus game there is always the random chance you could pay $30 for a used copy in the future.

I just got a call from Aeris telling me my preorder of Deep Labyrinth should be into EB tomorrow. I had already decided to switch it to Lunar Knights instead (but they wouldn't do that for me over the phone). It's too bad, too, because Weds is my birthday and I was hoping to have a new DS game to play. Oh well, I'll just watch Simpson's Season 8 instead. (I have to buy my own presents because my wife/kids won't do it the CAG way, and I don't want them spending full price on this stuff ).

Looked horrible from the X-Play review. They said this was a cell phone game originally... you can definitely tell!

just played it for a bit...

yeah, it's not that great. graphics are hit-and-miss (for a DS game) but it's got really awful play control that just makes it more frustrating than anything. and it DOES play much like a cell phone game. movement and attacks are very blocky, not fluid like it could/should be.

IGN review is in:

http://ds.ign.com/articles/725/725603p1.html

A "Passable" 6.5. I think I'll stick with my plan of not picking up my EB preorder and switching it to something else. I'll try to get this on the cheap later, though as an Atlus title it will probably become hard to find in a bit.

so how horrible is this game..

i just noticed that both Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda were part of the development team, so i'm pretty much sold. I need something to do on my 17 hour plane ride, anyways, and Megaman ZX doesn't come out until next week.

just a ballpark of how bad so i can brace myself.

I've been really wondering about this game. I know the reviews are horrible, but I don't go by those. I keep seeing this when I go to Hollywood Video/GC or any BB/CC/Fry's, etc. and it keeps taunting me making me want it.

I have $700 in EB credit, and even I, the man of a thousand preorders, didn't want to waste any on Deep Labyrinth. :D

I'll never understand why so many people will blow off reviews even if EVERY single review says it sucks.

Take a hint!

There isn't some conspiracy of guys that want to keep you away from a good game. :-$ Also, this isn't just a couple of goobers from Gamespot or IGN, this is pretty much everybody that's played it. Even the good DocRamon hates it, and he likes Lester the Unlikely (http://www.emumax.com/pic/romspic/SFC_2004123193832.gif)!

But, yes, they are right, I've played this piece of shit and it sucks royally. It's boring, the control blows and the graphics / framerate are crap. You can listen to everyone's warnings or waste $30 to experience it yourself.

I picked this up used at a local GS for $18. For me, it was worth every penny. Sure there are many areas for improvement. Controls could be better. Graphics could be better. Even the music, while good, could be more varied.

It all depends on what you are looking for. I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought this, and I wasn't disappointed at all. The game even had me addicted for a while. I was hooked long enough to play 10+ hours, just enough to finish the first chapter and get a good start on the second before I started losing interest.

The game needs warming up to. It takes time to get used to the controls and the repetitive dungeons (kinda like .hack).

All I can say is: 10+ hours is a hell of a lot longer playtime than a majority of the titles on my shelf have gotten.

Woah bump.

I picked this up at launch and just now put it back in and beat the final boss of the first story. Now I'm doing the second, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy this game. It's weird; the controls and graphics aren't that great in any sense, but there's some strange enjoyment I get out of exploring the dungeons and seeing what comes next.
