I was at work yesterday and our Nintendo Rep. came in to check on some of the systems in the store. I got to talking with her about different things and brought up if there was any info on a release date for the new system. She mentioned that she was going to a conference in September and that they would announce the release date and price there.

And yes, this is coming from a game store employee, but also coming from the district manager for the Nintendo Reps in our area. So hopefully we'll have a release date in the next 4-6 weeks.

I think it will be when Nintendo comes out and says it. But I will bet money on the fact the info will come out before the Wii is released.

I was at EB today, and they had Red Steel for pre-order, and avalible on 11/3. So I'g guessing when it is annouced it going to be November ( Man, I really wanted that Oct. 2 though!!!). As a side note, the people at my EB games are not the brightess pixels on the PSP!

Thanksgiving weekend is the release date for Wii. Should be a good blackfriday between FAR laptops at CC and Bestbuy and all the other goodies.

all i want (and all I care) is any of the closest B&M stores within close proximity from where I live should have a stock load of Wii consoles.

coz, i would really hate it when i walked in there stores and ask for a Wii, and some clerk will reply back "We ran out of stock, sir."

grrrr...:bomb:

as long as they have stocks, buyers will be happy. no need to grumble, and drive around town looking for available consoles. I just hate it when you walk out of a store and not carrying the stuff you're supposed to get.

No point in releasing a system for the holidays if it's not going to be the HOT must have(find) item. See Furby, Tickle me elmo,N64,PS2,Xbox 360 etc.

RL example
I remember when After a long 12 hour shift of work I drove by BB to see if the rumors of a chain wide restock of xbox 360s was true and if people where crazy enough to spend the night. 5:00- 16 people already in line, I park my work van(didnt have time to go home) and take a spot in line. I call for a supply drop of hot cooco and hamburgers. As the night goes buy and the trading og supplys begin amoung the line sitters(heat pads for burgers, holding of line spot for Wendys. people walking by ask why we are in line, besides the smart ass comment like "life size furby tonight only!" or "Brett Fave is coming at midnight" we would telll people the deal about the Xbox 360 restock and that it was the IT thing for the holiday season. I observed people who knew KNOTHING about xbox 360 getting in line purely because it was hard to get and that it was the IT Christmas gift.

Though thats theoretically possible, I'm going to say that a launch that late is just ludicrous.

a) That would make it the latest launch ever. The DS was a bit before that. The Gamecube was a little more before that.

b) It would be after the PS3 launch.

c) Its really important for them to get it out as early as possible to:
----c1) get the word of mouth going as far as concept. If Playing is Believing, what they need more is hands on time, not more marketing (though they certainly need that too).
----c2) They need to get people to drop 200-250? on it, at which point, realizing that you are having a lot of fun for a lot less money makes the idea of...well anything, less appealing for some people.

Your right I forgot about the PS3 launch. Maybe my date will be correct for 2nd shipment.

I am going to say november 2nd or 3rd(for the launch). I have been hoping and praying for a month or so that it will be late october but as of now, I've just about given up on this. The reason I believe it will be that date is all the many eb-games and gamestops all list the date for the big launch titles on that date. Plus all the recent interviews with devs stating they are still making big changes to their launch titles, which would be almost impossible with an earlier date.

It is possible the launch could be a week later(either that weekend or the next), but I don't think so as it would be competing more and more with the ps3 launch hoopla-which I am sure there will be lots of with sony's near-infinite marketing budget.

I don't think 10/2 or 11/3 would necessarily work - Nintendo typically releases consoles on a Sunday, and those two days are a Monday and a Friday respectively.

That said, I did see the 11/3 thing at gonintendo.com - they had a list of EB preorder cut off dates, release dates, and prices. Legend of Zelda for GC was marked at 11/3, and the Wii version was hand written in for the same day. Only fishy thing was the price - most Wii games were marked at $60 for launch. Then again, EB typically tries to, if anything, overshoot what the actual price will be when they take your money early. There's also the fact that the supposed official list has Metal Slug collection releasing at $23.

i dont think the release date will somehow get leaked by the person going to the meetings w/ the nintendo reps.... i have a friend who does some PR work for xbox and he knows stuff but can say anything...... so i would think that if a person who knew the release date b4 nintendo annonces it, would be obligated not to say any thing or they might put their job in jeopardy..... another thing, when i found out fellow CAG were getting ds lites early i was talking to the chick @ my local gamestop about that and she said that if someone were to sell it early then they would get a hefty fine for each system so wouldnt this be almost the same.... it'll either be a hefty fine to that person or that they lose their job if they leak the release date

Nintendo employees (and for that matter MS and Sony, too) most likely sign non-disclosure agreements basically stating they will not release any information. Under that, there may be penalties of being fired, or even sued. How else do you think Nintendo kept the Wiimote a secret?
