I was thinking of a bidding thing for CAG, like Ebay. Not sure if a vb bulletin has a mod like that, but maybe there is. You could make it where you would have to have a minimum of lets say 11 feedback :p , and if they dont stay true to there word, then ban them.

Maybe an option to put a minimum price so you wont end up selling it for $0.01, an option for how long the bidding would go on, a required vivid description and/or pic. Just an idea, seeing as I dont know how to use ebay, or wanna get involved with it and end up getting ripped off or going to jail or something XD

Ha they do have a mod for it, its called vB Easy Auction v1.1 (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=92857&page=7) , and I think CheapD or a Moderator should install it. I'm pretty sure there are CAG's that dont do ebay cause they dont have paypal or just dont wanna hassle with the fee's I hear about.

Kind of a cool idea... but I don't see myself, or many others, using it. We don't have a population as massive as eBay, so that would only tell us that we wouldn't get worthwhile winning bids.

It's an interesting theory, but something that I don't think would benefit our users. The barter/classifieds system that we have set up now is a better solution for CAGs to work with other CAGs to get exactly the price/trade they are looking for.

I think a bidding system would also cause problems with unpaying bidders and a lot of headaches for us moderating the trades.

True we like to get our exact prices, but lets say you had a game that everyone wants and couldnt decide what price to put it up for? Then here comes the mod to the rescue ^^ or ebay it, but I dont have ebay :( , oh well, seems I'm the only one that really wants it.

Just decide a price that you are comfortable selling the item at. If you are looking to get the maximum possible price for something, use eBay or another auction site.

Why can you not use eBay or another auction site?

Cause, I cant put money in my paypal and most people dont accept cash. And I hear there are fees and I dont have a job.

Pachitalk.com uses an auction thing like that and its more of a classifieds ad not a lot of bidding seems to go down. People usually just put the opening bid real high. If they started with a lower bid and took a chance it would be a lot better. They just changed it though so maybe its different now.
I think it would be awesome if CAG had something like that. Its nice to buy things from someone who isnt auctioning stuff for a living.
Plus im sure everyone trusts a random CAG more than a random Ebay seller.
As for the trade list, Im kind of a pack rat. I dont want to trade things or get rid of it. I want to buy more. Most people arent looking to sell items, just trade.

I think this would be a cool feature to have. There are a few problems that have been mentioned allready (Non paying bidders, mods having to work things out, not much interest, etc.) I think eBay would be a lot easier, but this would be pretty cool. I have seen stuff like this work before.. Who knows, We should give it a shot ;)

About the poll: A simple "Yes" or "No" would have had a little less of a slant to it. :)

You are claiming something that hasn't been incorporated as "better" & "easier" and then you bring up a trust issue with eBay.

My main concern with the whole thing is that it has the potential to change the dynamic of the CAG trading community. Right now, people are willing to help each other out. Introduce a bidding system and you get people looking to get the most for their item.

Plus, you also then have to deal with people not fully understanding what is in the "auction" or the condition of items. These are things that are easy to talk through in PMs, but I'm already getting a headache thinking about the huge number of "This isn't like he described" or "I thought I was getting a complete game and he didn't specify" PMs that "auctions" would cause.

You put auctions on this site and the level of trust will drop, because people will start listing stuff the way it is listed on eBay. And yes, people are more honest on here right now about items than they would be if they were trying to sell the same items on eBay. The tradelist/classifieds/haggling system just causes people to have to be more accountable and careful with their actions.

Edit: javeryh's example below is excellent. Think of things like the $8.96 Circuit City Clearance. People are not going to respond well when CAGs try to start auctioning those off to the highest bidder.

This is the right answer. I like to think of CAG as a community geared to helping out other gamers rather than a place where I can squeeze every last penny out of an item I no longer want. This site is great because when there is a sale or something that I can't partake in for whatever reason I can usually get a CAG to hook me up for actual cost + shipping. I got RE4 for $10 last Christmas at the TRU sale - my TRU was all out and someone here hooked me up when they could have easily put it on eBay and got triple. Auctions would kill that.

Your poll is totally biased.

Cause, I cant put money in my paypal and most people dont accept cash. And I hear there are fees and I dont have a job.You can use money orders, and most people on eBay take money orders.

I think it's really unreasonable to have bidding/auctions on CAG for no fees and expect Cheapy and the mods to maintain the system and deal with trades that go bad. They already do enough of that with the trading forum.

Hmm shipwreck you say they complain that "This isn't like he described"? Well that can still happen with normal trading. Whose to say we cant still use the PM system?

And I'm not thinking of it as an alternative to Trading, just when the guys that post in the auction forum, telling us its listed on ebay, well they can post it here. Not much of a diffrence. See where I'm going with this?

And as Miller said, "We should give it a shot", you never know...

Are you concerned about bidding or selling? If you're concerned about selling, you should probably stick to casual trading on CAG anyways if you're too young for eBay. If you're concerned about buying, why can't you use money order?

Right now, it seems like you're really pushing this idea so you can bid on things, but I'm still not seeing what the benefit to the entire site would be. People list put their auctions on eBay for more exposure. If they only wanted to list it to the CAG community, they just use their own trading lists. What's wrong with the current way of things that would be improved with a bidding/auction system on CAG?

Reason I brought up age is its the whole reason you want the auction for CAG. However in your poll you say its easier on CAG and as other people pointed out why bring trust into it with eBay.

CAG isn't about selling something to the highest bidder, ebay is.

Yes, I guess your right. There lots more people on ebay than the cag community.
