Jobs that require you to be at least 16 and up. I don't want to be a fast food worker. I was more into thinking of working at a video store like Blockbuster and Game Crazy. Do they accept people who are over 16 or not? Also, could you fill out an application online and will they call you and ask for an interview?

Head to any site and click careers, usually they have applications online.

Most jobs require you to be at least 16, so I don't understand what you are worried about.

After doing applications online, call the place within a week and ask to talk to the hiring manager to find out if they've looked at your application.

Want to work for a nike sweatshop? They hire people 16 and under! Please send your email to the Phil, he's very interested in sending americans overseas to work in sweatshops.

Welcome back to earth! Almost every work place hire people 16 and over. Always better to go there in person and introduce yourself to the manager and turn in your application. That increases your chances of getting hired. If you leave your schedule open, your application will definitely be looked at. Remember be flexible especially since you are applying to low-tier jobs that can be easily replaced.

When you apply for a job, you're basically saying "Hey! I want to work here!" If you want to be taken seriously, you have to make an impression on somebody when you go apply/turn in your app. Make yourself stand out just a little bit. It'll help you stand out in the stack of paper. :)

To do that I recommend you make grievous spelling errors on your application such as "skool" "bizness" "avaleabillitty". I also suggest you use crayons.

In all seriousness though Caffolote .. do you have any hotels near you that are fancy enough to have bellmen, doormen, and valets? If so I highly recommend you do that. Good exercise, decent tips, and it easy and when you're old enough to valet you get to drive all the sweet cars around.

Valet sounds like a decent job to me.

Why not just apply to Blockbuster/GameCrazy like you want?

Yeah I'm not really sure the point of this thread. You apparently wont accept other suggestions other than a video store clerk .. so just apply to be one. What other assistance are you looking for?

I want to be sure they accept people over the age of 16, don't they?

No, they hire toddlers exclusively. That's why you always see people obviously in their 20's working there.

Hasn't it crossed your mind to get out a phone book and call Blockbuster or Gamecrazy and ask how old you need to be to work there? If you can't manage that I don't think you are capable of even fufilling the menial tasks you would be given at either establishment...

There's your common Blockbuster employee. As you can clearly see, he's under 16, so don't expect a job there.

Just go work fastfood, after you work there for a few months you'll have more than enough motivation to actually take the time to apply correctly for a better job.

Don't apply online and try to apply during normal (but not busy) store hours so you might actually be able to talk with a manager that has the ability to hire you. Also if you have any friends working anywhere see if their store has or is going to have any openings soon, I got my first job due to a friends recommendation.

What's so bad about having an online application? I was gonna do that.

It's bad because places are always flooded with applications, when you haven't worked before you're application gets thrown on the very bottom of the pile unless of course you can either impress the manager, hiring manager or you know someone who works there that can do that for you.

Online applications are really good when a new store is opening up, the holiday season is around the bend or you've already got a decent amount of experience and you simply want to apply to as many places as possible.

It's funny because you seem utterly unmotivated to do anything other than sit in a cold room and be a retail monkey. There are other jobs out there.

I never thought of applying to be a valet. I almost got a job at a new Dunkin Doughnuts, because I was the only one who turned in a resume with the application.

Mr. Anderson has some rock solid advice here. Making sure you stand out in the application process is critical. For this reason, turn in your application with your cock hanging out. They'll remember you.

And on to other business...

Now this is interesting. What country are you coming from? I only ask because some cultures have strict social norms about politeness and courtesy. Working in retail demands a certain degree of jerkishness just to get by.

This thread is bizarre. The OP basically is asking us to confirm whether BB or GS hire people over 16 years of age. He's not looking for advice on other jobs or what it would be like to work there.

Seriously, do they hire people over 16? Have you ever been in a store? Have you ever been in a store where the employees are all under 16? I have -- it's called a lemonade stand.

To be honest, I've never seen anyone under twenty working at a gamecrazy. Why should they hire some teenager with attitude and a the world is about me attitude when they can hire someone who's already broken down and knows how to take crap like a pro?

I had a shitty check authorization job once, pretty easy, all you have to do is punch numbers into a computer, but it was so mind numbing, the job required very little thinking at all, I felt that I was actually getting dumber...wait, thats perfect for you, check out Certegy.

Since you are very young, and possibly venturing out into college in a couple years, I highly suggest getting involved with a restaurant if you can handle stress. Waiting experience is universal, and if you are attending college, then that means you are in, or near a college town, where undoubtedly waiting positions will be open.

At good chains/restaurants waiters can bring in lots of cash in contradistinction with other part time jobs. Stress is high, multi-tasking is high, menial labor is high, but then again what low-wage job isn't?
