Ok well awhile ago I had a ATI Radeon 2250 or something...basically I got a new video card which I installed into the computer myself. Now though I need to connect to the internet through this computer using a network card and router. That means, since I only got 1 slot the computer can read, one PCI slot or w/e, I had to take out the Radeon video card.

Ok now for my problem: When I had installed the ATI Radeon card awhile back, I deleted the old integrated card from display options, so I can no longer select it there. I said "Do Not Use, Disable" And it dissapeared from the options as a selection for a video card.

What I want to know is how or (hopefully) if I can get the old video (integrated) card working again. Is there any other place I can go to select the old integrated card as my main(default) graphics card, or if thats not possible a way I can maybe install it again if I did somehow uninstall it? Anyway hope this makes sense I barely know what I just said xD. I'll quickly summarize it, just in case. (Please read the summary though, I think I said some new stuff there lol)

Summary: I had to take out my new video card and disabled my old integrated video card that came with the computer in order to install a network card. Now I can't select the old integrated card in control panel display options and I currently see only 8 bit colors and can't select anything higher. I need to somehow get that old integrated card back or increase the bit colors, hopefully without reinstalling windows!

THANKS A LOT!:bouncy:

Well, barring downloading drivers for it from ATI's site, control panel > add hardware?

Well spades depending on what your TIME is worth you might want to invest in a USB ethernet adapter($20), What this will do is turn one of your USB ports into a ethernet port allowing you to hook into a DSL/CABLE modem or router. On the other hand if you have the restore disc for the computer you should be able to reinstall the driver for the ORGINAL graphics adapter. If you provided some more information (laptop or desktop.Win98,WinME,Win2000,WinXP.HP,Emachine,home made or off brand) we can help you better.

Umm well I don't have a CD...and I'm not rushed for time since I don't have a job full time or anything, just part time so I have a lot of bored time usually. I got an hp computer desktop, I don't have any cds, and basically I bought it from one of those places like futureshop and you know it comes with integrated graphics. I was hoping there was maybe some command or osmething xD

Well here's the best solution. Go to "HP.com"you will be able to type in the model number for your computer and it will offer you the option to download drivers of different parts. You will find your video driver there.

Hmm all I could find was a graphics update, but it DID update the card, so it must not be uninstalled. Hiowever I cant select it in control panel display options so it must be somewhere else on my computer! Any other ideas?

Some ideas for you:

Make sure you uninstall any of the old ATI drivers. They might be getting in your way.

When you to the device manager, what does it say when you expand the "display adapters" tab? My guess is that it says something like "VGA driver" and makes no mention of your specific integrated graphic chipset.

If that is the case (you are currently using the generic VGA driver) then you need to get the real drivers installed. Again, if you TELL US the make and model number of your PC, we might be able to help. It's commendable that you went and looked at HP's site all by yourself, but since it didn't work, you might be missing something.

Another thing you should do is Start->Run->msinfo32 then look under components->display That might give us some info as to what type of integrated graphics you have and will help us/you find the right driver.

Another thing you could try is if you think that the old drivers are still there, then go under the device manager and remove the generic VGA display adapter, then reboot and let the PC try to redetect the video card. It only reverts to VGA when it doesn't have the driver for your specific hardware.

You didnt tell us what OS you're using, but I assume you're using Windows XP. I'm not sure if you have done this already, but when you take out the PCI video card that you installed, Windows should default your graphic card back to the integrated card without needing you to select it. You did mention something about having very little colors, so I suppose all you have to do is download the drivers from HP's website. Like someone mentioned above, if you tell us your HP computer model, we can help you find out exactly what you need to download to get your computer running nice again. The USB network adapter someone mentioned is also a good suggestion to save up on PCI slots. Perhaps I'm not saying anything new since everyone gave good suggestions :)

Ah I figured it out! I went to properties or something and i had it disabled under drivers or something...only problem is that I can't play CoD2 on this comp anymore because it says "Doesn't support Alpha blending" =/
