Nice. I am spending $900 on my gaming PC, and I am a teen as well. The way I got money is by taking care of neighbors' dogs and houses while they were on vacation. You still have some time to make money in the summer! Quick! Go mow some lawns! You can make $200 in a week!
As for the graphics card, you can check my post titled "Lat PC Building Thread..." Some people posted nice cards for under $100. Check those out.

Looks okay, but if you want an actual gaming PC that runs modern games decently well, you'll want at LEAST 6600GT. Actually, 6800.

that's a very good build, you've obviously been doing your research. one thing i'd suggest is beefier psu. i've got a fortron as well and they kick ass, so maybe get the 500w blue storm. also, i'd get a seagate hd just cuz of the 5 yr warranty.

You don't need any optical disc drives?
Also, the 400W PSU is fine, I run 3 hard drives, 2 optical drives and a 6800GS (unlocked to 6800GT+) with a 400W PSU.

Why do you need to spend money on a PSU when your case already has one?
I run a P4, x1600 Pro, 2 HDD, and 2 DVD drives with a 350W Antec.

hmm should i just go for a 65$ antec case with 300w/350w?
and drop the case and psu i currently chose?
also whats with this SLI stuff?

You should do that (go with the 350W Antec case for $65). SLI is for dual GPUs but they are for newer cards only, which are in the three to four hundred dollar range.

I think you could do better on the hard drive (and maybe the RAM too). You could at least get a bigger harddrive of the same speed for about that price, however that isn't really bad either. Most Seagate harddrives offer a 5 year warranty which sets them apart from WD. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for cheap suggestions on things like the video card since I'm looking to build a new computer in the near future for cheap.

Decent build, although 250gb hard drives can be found for around the same price or maybe 5-10 dollars more, and ditch the psu and use the one that comes with ur case since ur just using onboard video, and thats the only thing ive come across that ever destroys a psu. For that price range, I'd just get a prebuilt system by dell/hp/compaq/etc. that comes with an lcd and extras, then sell the lcd and buy a good graphics card (make sure the prebuilt is upgradable). Dell has a decent system thats 249.99 that can keep up with the one you are building and it also comes with a free 150 dollar lcd monitor.

That's the problem. You never know the one or all parts that these companies throw in to fuck that whole plan up.
That's why I built mine myself and have absolutely loved it. If you don't have a monitor or OS, then Dell is cheaper. Otherwise, get to wrenchin'!

OEM means original equipment manufacturer, indicating it does not come with a retail box, only the bare equipment + drivers and manuals. Sometimes you don't even get manuals or softwares. Very often OEM comes with shorter warranty period, but companies such as Seagate didn't skim on warranty for their OEM products.

Theres a few form factors. ATX, BTX, microATX, AT. Most stuff is going to be ATX/microATX. Just make sure your motherboard and case both say they accept the same thing. Generally a midtower will take atx/microatx and most motherboards will be ATX or microATX. Generally anything else is older or made for itty bitty HomeTheaterPC's.

Did you have a size and color preference. With microATX you can go with a pretty small case, but you might not want to for heating/upgradeability issues.

I have already suggested good power supplies in my previous posts. A power supply is not something you should skimp on. Imagine a shortage in the power supply, who knows what it can take out with it. It can permanently damage the processor, fry the RAM due to too high of energy voltage jolted into it, and a dead motherboard, leaving you with a gutted PC.
Here's a fairly cheap yet quality case with a 350W power supply, I've used this case with a previous client for a custom build and no problems whatsoever. I even put 2 hard drives in a RAID array with two optical drives for on-the-fly copying and the 350W was able to handle that with no problem.

I like that one. I also would like to note that you need to check how many pins the motherboard uses and how many the power supply has. AMD generally is 24 pin power supplies for their motherboards and intel is 20 I think. Definetly another thing to watch out for. 20+4 of course means it works for both varieties of motherboards.

There really is no advantage to using a microATX sized motherboard other than the smaller form factor. Everything is compressed and is basically a bitch to route wires and do little changes due to everything being smushed together. There's also generally a lack of I/O ports when in comparison to a regular form-factor. There's also an issue with cooling. Expect a little heat-cube with a majority of microATX cases. I have a full tower and it's a dream to work with. But if you're going to stay with microATX, the Athenatech seems good from the reviews.

anything wrong with "open box"? 57$ for a 80$ mobo will allow me to maybe even up my CPU alot =)
but if ur guys opinion on "open box" is bad then ill reconsider
oh yeah whats IDE?

I don't have an experience with open box items from newegg, but I have had good luck with them from a support standpoint on regular merchandise. IDE is one of the interfaces for hard drives/optical drives. I forget what all the acronymns really stand for.
I probably wouldn't get an open box motherboard, the case would be ok, but not the motherboard. If this is your first build and it sounds like it is I wouldn't take the chance on something not being right with the mobo. It's not worth saving the money in this case.

I have ordered an open box hardrive and cd drive before and all wher in like new condition. They could have shoved them into a retail box and you never would have known. But with a mobo I think you should stick to a new one in box.

if you're willing to pay that much for a case go with an aspire brand. Very good product. And you should just find a mobo with on-board video and then save up for a video card later.
I have this aspire case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811144151
my friend has this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811144101
both are very well built and have plenty of room.

Aspire makes ok cases but their PSes suck. They're also known as Apevia or something now.
I still think that Rosewill case/PS combo was a good one, the reviews were fairly positive for the most part.
A ATX case may or may not be able to fit a micro ATX mobo, it depends on the case. Usually they'll have listed what kind of mobos can be used with the case.

ya rosewill makes good powersupplies and that one combo listed earlier was pretty good for the price. I have a rosewill powersupply and have no problems. Has anice blue LED light on the fan too.

Be sure to pick a case that you know you will surely like, as you will see it a lot for a long time, unless you switch pc cases quite frequently.
I use to have this case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811144026 , the aspire xdreamer 2. I thought it was cool looking, and it came with a power supply so i picked it. The power supply worked perfectly with an x1800xt for almost a month, but when i upgraded to an x1900xtx, the power supply shorted itself out a couple days after installing the x1900xtx (I dont really blame the power supply, it was a 420 watt with dual 14 amp 12v rails, which prolly adds up to ~24 amp 12v, but the x1900xtx uses wayyyy too much power). After a couple months the case became dull and I couldnt stand looking at it anymore.
So i finally decided to do what I shouldve done in the first place, invest in a GOOD case, so now I have the thermaltake armor, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133154. BEST CASE EVER. Worth every penny, and I even spent an extra 60 dollars buying the Thermaltake Hardcano 13 LED fan controller just to make the case look even better, although the 6-1 card reader was a useful bonus. Now i just have to hit the gym some more to be able to carry this massive 60 pound behemoth to lan parties more often.

Didnt order a harddrive becuase I already had like 20. This was back in March, now the 3000+ venice is 66 dollars, but the ram is 98. You can also deduct the speaker and the fan, bringing the total to around 340 shipped...not so bad. I have a x2 3800+ now, but the 3000+ was running confortably on the motherboard at 2.25 ghz on stock voltage and nothing altered but htt speed (fbs for u intel people). It was at 250x9, because the motherboard maxed out at 250 :-/ or else it wouldve went higher. This was also on the stock fan with the thermal pad.

yeah i already got speakers, a 40gb hdd , a monitor and all that excess stuff but i wanna upgrade everything because all my stuff is pretty old and i wanna build my first comp
i was considering a 3000+/3200 but i wanted something better and it was only around 10/15 dollars more for a 3500 which i think is great
i think they might be even cheaper by the time i purchase all of this :bouncy:

Looks good... but I don't like that case. For a bit more, you could get a Cooler Master Centurion 5.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=1295819209&Subcategory=&description=centurion+5&srchInDesc=&minPrice=&maxPrice=
And why a Micro ATX mobo? It'll work fine but a regular ATX mobo should give you more room for expansion.
EDIT* Nevermind, I see why now. They're the only ones that come with on board video.

lol since im putting 50$ towards a PSU i didnt wanna buy a case cause i dont need it and the case got plenty of good reviews
what do u mean by "more expansion" with atx?

More PCI slots. And more room to work with, if it's your first build then an ATX motherboard will give you more room to install components.

Sorry, I didn't know that you already had that case. There's nothing wrong with it if you already have it but if you were going to buy it, then I'd go with the Cooler Master as it has better airflow and is made of aluminum.
As for ATX vs ATX Micro, you might not need more PCI slots but PCI slots on micro boards are cramped. If you ever want to add a sound card, tuner card, or wi-fi card then you'll have enough room for all three. And yes, regular sized ATX mobos are much easier to work with.

well, one of my mobo is filled with 2 video cards, 1 sound card, 1 hdtv card, and 1 cold cathode on/off switch. no more room for expansion

dam wtf all of the asus ones have the same number of PCI and PCIE express unless its 150$ which is WAY too much for me im better off getting the friggen mATX one unless theres ANOTHER Brand of mobos that i should get?
i might go for this if there isnt any around the $85 range cause i cant really push my budget any more then i already have because it costs $550 with everything but since i have to upgrade mymobo itll be around 560 -_-

This is the only full size AM2 ATX mobo with on board video in your price range:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128010
Its made by Gigabyte, which is a pretty reliable company.
Honestly I don't see a problem with using a mATX board, as I don't even use any of my PCI slots just the PCIe slot for my video card. Onboard LAN and sound are fine for me. Also since you are reusing your case a mATX might fit better.
Also Fry's has an AMD AM2 x2 3800+ with an ECS motherboard (mATX with onboard video) which is onsale right now for $179 bucks. Also Fry's has a great no hassle return policy, in case you run into problems. I know most people don't like ECS mobos, but I had many and have had very few problems. I would seriously consider this combo deal cause you will notice a BIG difference going form single core to dual core.
