View Full Version : Rumor: PC Port of RE4 CANCELLED!?!?!?

Although delayed several times... it is being reported that the PC port is being scrapped :( WTF! I know this is rumor but I know a lot of people have been waiting for the PC port for a long time, yet there has been little information about the port except for a few screenshots that look like they were taken from the PS2 port. IGN/Gamespot hasn't said shit about it lately... I really hope this doesn't happen.

yep, Ubisoft doing the port. GamesFAQ reported someone who beta tested the PC port with some so so reviews of it. You know someone is going to make a topless mod for Ashley and Ada when it comes out...boy that will be fun lol.
Ubisoft's web site says it was released eariler this year, but no where to be found. Others report that its coming out next month.

yea figuring how home system games START development on a PC or MAC then get made for the targeted system, yet the developer won't take the time to make it work for the PC..yes I know there are multi system releases, but when RE4 became a mega hit, it should have been ported to the PC immediatly, instead they forced there efforts in porting it over to the PS2 and making assignment ada bonus just for the PS2..
Developers of the home system should just make it easier to program for these gaming systems..and not say here is our hardware not program for it bitch (example saturn/PS2 programing whoa's)
I mean the only chance we will ever be able to play those "exclusive to a system game" will be by emulation... unfortunitly current XB/PS2/GC emulators aren't giving us fast enough frame rates even on the fastest PC's out there. It may be another 2-5 years before we can even play these games on our PC via emulation... but these new Dual/Quad Core processors that are coming out may change that.

Who the hell would want a port of a soon to be 2 year old game? Its the same with halo 2, its coming to pc's this year or possibly next year but who cares? If they want to port stuff they need to do it right away.

the PC port is reported to use higher res textures then the Game Cube and to be able to run the game at 1024x768 or higher with AA!!! :) vs the 720x486 that is shown on the CG/PS2... You know people are going to hack this game ...hell if they make the sound/speech files as .wav or .mp3 hell ya Im gonna make those villagers say more cuss words in spanish lol.

The Start Development on a DEV kit, not for the PC Market. The PC is dead. Lets all just get over it. Stores dont carry PC Games anymore because no one buys them. Publishers dont port to PC because everyone just downloads them.
The PC was never standardized... so fuck it, and may it die in a glitchy, buggy hole forever.

Well, that argument isn't going to inspire companies to resume developing PC ports.
I'd like to see some sales data for major console games and how their PC sales compare, as well as trends in PC game sales over a 15-year period. That might give us some insight into why presumably big hits don't get the PC treatment; in the meantime, in the absence of evidence, the "because I WANT it!" argument doesn't work for many toddlers, so I'm not certain why that's the foundation of gamers' arguments here.

it depends on who ports it over.... when I heard Ubisoft was doing the port, instead of capcom, I was kind of worried. The PC is NOT dead.. I still see a descent shelf spacing for PC games at bb/cc/compusa and micro center.
This is capcom's last chance to milk RE4 before the next RE game hits... do it right and it will bring boat loads of money, in which case may think them to reconsider the pc market and bring more of there games to the pc :)

true...the game console market will always dominate the pc market...its an unfortunte truth... but you gotta remember... the sony fan boys whaaaaaaaaaaaa to Capcom about why RE4 wasn't coming to the PS2..and Capcom gave in and gave them a muggy port with a bonus ada mission to say sorry... the annoucement that RE4 was going to hit the pc was a surprise to the PC community as no one expected it.. I for one wasn't writing whaaaaaaaa letters to capcom to port RE4 over. Perhaps its a test to see if RE games will sell well on the PC... if it works...we might see future RE games on the PC.

I imagine that the sales of RE1, 2, 3, and maybe CV (perhaps that only came out for PC in Europe, if at all) are indicative of whether or not 4 would sell on the PC; furthermore, it says something if Ubisoft is distributing 4 instead of Capcom. In the case of the PS2, the established consumer base is easily reason enough to port it - given GC's market share of consoles, it's kinda foolish for any third party to make GC-exclusive games. Ubi realized that when Splinter Cell went from Xbox-exclusive to all three consoles.
You could be reasonably assured that Capcom would make their money back putting out a RE game on PS2; that certainty isn't there for the PC market (though I'm assuming there).

CV came to the PC in Europe?!??!?! I know Re1-Re3 hit the pc, but never knew that Europe pc gamers got CV :( As for the porting stuff. Capcom said the GC had superior graphics compared to the PS2 and could do everything they wanted in RE4 without sacrificing quality... The ps2 port , they had to lower polygons, textures, and of course lower sound quality :( Yea its stupid for Capcom to make exclusives for one system, thats there shot in the foot..

I remember seeing DMC 3 on the PC when I was in Europe last month... didn't buy it because the PC ports are generally pretty shitty and have some things removed.
As for the PC market... it'll become obselete for hardcore gamers the way things are going now, but I'm hoping that MS isn't full of shit for once when they roll out Vista and DX10. If DX10 nets huge performance gains (AKA: You don't have to upgrade anywhere near as often to play a game), then the PC could shoot up in popularity among hardcore crowds over the next several years.

Im going to pass at the launch of Vista and wait for Service pack 2 before I get my hands on it... I've been reading how Vista requires some crazy specs to run properly...
back to the rumor....right now its rumor that its been canned. I'd be pissed for a bit then get over it if it did get canned.

The reason Ubi did the port is because they have more experience with publishing games on the PC IIRC (DMC3, Onimusha 3, and RE4 were all supposed to be ported or have already been ported).
If RE4 does get cancelled, I will be a little disappointed since I did want to play it on the PC and was planning on purchasing it.

Even games that were "big hits" on the PC, such as F.E.A.R, don't sell nearly as much as they should have. Expect the Xbox 360 version to double or triple the PC version's sales, easily.... I also think Call of Duty 2 outsold its PC counterpart by a ton as well. IIRC, Oblivion never had divided numbers, just a 1.7 million combined, but I'd be willing to bet the majority of sales were to 360 users.
Things like this are making developers / publishers give up on the PC... why bother putting it on PC when you can double your sales on the 360?

yea I am starting to think that Ubisoft is like what Gearbox is to Valve (HL2).. there is ZERO activity about it on the Ubisoft web site...thats not a good sign.
I heard cool shit about DMC3, and was going to pick it up, til I heard about the PC port coming out, so I said wait for it.

I think the reason this is happening more is because people are willing to pay 60 for a 360 game. Before you could look at royalties as a reason why developers would make games for both since they don't pay any on the PC, but I would think that extra 10 dollars helps cover those costs.
Also it is worth pointing out that when looking at 360 games, there still are not that many of them and the people who have 360's are still looking for games (the game sales have been really high across the board). Games like GRAW, Oblivion, and CoD probably all would have sold a lot less had it not been for a fairly dry market as far as games go on the 360 (there have been lots, but it is still a new console).

i don't know about you, but I am never , ever going to pay 60 dollars for a console version of a game. Hell after the shit I went threw for SW:EAW CE I , I will never, ever pay 60 dollars for a CE version of a game, or full price...unless its really THAT GOOD.
Sony can eat my shit if they think they are going to make me pay 60-90 for the next resident evil for the PS3.

Well, considering it was $10 last year during the TRU December mark-downs, and given that you're calling me a Sony fan boy, and given your atrocious spelling, I'm going to go out on a limb here and propose that you lack a reading level equivalent to a third grader.
Using a catch phrase that hasn't been cool for about....10 years now doesn't help your case.

I have the 'cube version, but was looking forward to the PC version because of possibly playing the PS2 extras with graphics 'cube level or better. I never was able to find confirmation on that though.
Anyonw here if the title was/is gonna have the gamecube's (or better) graphics, and also include the PS2 extras?
If no extras, looks like I'll be buying the PS2 version eventually instead.

According to reports, it will be the same RE4 we all played, but will have the PS2 extra's (Assignment Ada, movie viewer, etc) but supose to run at a higher res (1024x768 or better), higher res texture maps, and use Direct X 9 card features :) Think of GTA and what they did when it was ported to the PC...the results were a lot better then the xbox version :) For those who think its not going to play well on the keyboard/mouse... well get over it and get yourself the logitech rumblepad 2 (wired or wireless) as its like a bulky version of the PS2 controller , which feels more responsive then the cube's controller.
Ubisoft/Capcom isn't going to throw in more extra's just for us, other then higher res game play. Im just thankful it was coming. The price was suggested to be around 29.99...but some say it may even go to 19.99.
Its going to be intresting...IGN/Gamespot needs to call ubisoft to follow up on this rumor and get the answers for us.

Seriously though what about that game, it was made my capcom but only released in Asia but it was butt ugly(All though passable to me) and was really messed up in the controls department. Did they already make this and are just delaying the release?
