View Full Version : What is your most reviled (but special) game console that you own?

In other words - what console do you have, either plugged in or stowed in your closet that brings you some measure of (delightful) shame? (But, of course being a CAG, you'll never throw it out :) )
For me, it's my Atari Jaguar.. I keep it just to show those 'not in the know' how craptastic a controller can truly be. Minus my copy of Aliens vs Predator and Tempest 2k it's sort of my joke console. It has not been plugged in for five years.
A close second place would be my "beautiful" Panasonic 3do. It's kind of got that XBOX aesthetic... fat and clunky. Sometimes when I think PS1's early 3d is ugly I'll pop in something from the 3do library for a good chuckle.

My colecovision, I love the thing even though the controller is horrible. I keep it for nostalgic purposes and can't bear to sell it since my father sold the one I had when I was a kid.

The only reason I bought mine was because it was only $30 at Media Play and it came with that Star Wars game.

Sigh, Collecovision...(i never owned, but always wanted Colecovision and Intellivision, but was an Atari/NES kid).. I still have an unopened game called Dungeons and Dragons (Intellivision, I think) that my friend convinced me to get because the gameplay is "so good".. We'll see...

My parents had gotten me mine when they got me my Genesis for Xmas in '94. And they got me Star Wars Arcade. I bought Doom for it a couple of months later. Those are the only 32X games I've ever owned. Well Night Trap 32X CD, but I don't count that...

Probably my Genesis. The AC adapter is broken at the part that goes into the Genesis, so being as cheap as I am I never replaced it. Lots of funky things have to be done to get it working :-P
I can top all of that. I owned a Game.com. It's probably still around here somewhere. I bought it for Duke 3d. I feel ashamed that I paid retail for it.

Game.com, 32X, and the Virtual Boy.
I actually own the original Game.com and smaller redesigned Game.com without the light button, but Sonic Jam was just unplayable on that system, looked better than the brick gameboy with its little touch screen.
My 32X, which has no games, I plugged it in a few times and it looked like a a mess with all the cords and the power adapters taking up my power strip making me unable to play anything else without unplugging them first .
The Virtual Boy would have been better if I had more games besides Mario Tennis and the occasional dizziness after playing.

$30? You got ripped off. I paid $4 new for a 32X.

I bought a Game Gear back when it was still expensive. I loved playing that monster even though it had to be plugged into the wall the entire time I was playing it. Sonic Chaos/Sonic Triple Trouble for the win!

LOL. I remember when I had the gamegear, I thought I could actually beat that game. I got to like the 15th or 16th level. Either my batteries died. Or I died more often then not. The game is rigged to where you can't win. Hell have I tried to beat that damn game. There's not enough battery life in a six pack of Duracell to actually beat this game. So you are disadvantaged from the start! Oh yeah. Did you know this game actually had a prequel on the genesis? Though I may have gotten it around and this was the prequel and the sequel was on genesis.
The gamegear was a reasonably good system though. Shining Force, Defenders of Oasis, Crystal Warriors. They were all great games.

My two brick Game Boys. Even though it's a good system, it's pretty much useless since I have a GBA SP, but I can't try to sell them off because the return doesn't justify the means.

Dungeons and Dragons: Cloudy Mountain was a KICK butt intellivision game. Its worth owning thes ystem just to play it - seriously. Its a dungeon crawler with randomly generated dungeons and overworld map. Hearing the dragon(s?) roar and never knowing how many you will have to face at the very end - without being able to see them yet - was chilling at the time.
My most useless system is probably the Sega CD. I only had two games for it - Sonic and Lunar 1 and now own Lunar for the PSX and Gba so theres really no reason to keep it around. It was the side model, not the cool fat one that went under the Genesis. Skipped like crazy too.

hehe, before I got the AC and DC adapters I spent SOOOO much money on batteries.
It's embarrassing, actually.

I guess that would be my Virtual Boy, even though I don't hate it. I didn't pay much for it, and Mario's Tennis and Mario Clash are fun. I never play it, but it's still sitting on the desk, plugged up and ready to go.
There are also a couple of CDis in the garage... no games or anything. The DVD player used to be sitting on top of them, but hey, that caught on.

Hmm: Virtual Boy, Saturn, WonderSwan, or MSX. Take your pick.

My most reviled but special system is my Xbox. Yes I said Xbox.
For a long time I didnt have an Xbox. But my roomates had one. I goofed on its size, and the size of its melon-like controllers. I hated Halo cos Im a diehard keyboard & mouse FPS player.
But then I talked my roomate into buying KOTOR cos I wanted to play it. He bought it and I got hooked. But I could tell my roomates werent happy, cos i was hogging up the livingroom tv playing KOTOR all the time. So I decided I needed my own xbox.
I walked to the mall in a snowstorm to buy my Xbox. They were having this deal, I think the xbox was $180 and you got 2 free games. I get to the store and they dont have any of the free games left, it was a 'while supplies last' deal. But I was soo jonesing to play KOTOR I bought the xbox anyway.
I walked back home and slipped in the snow and busted my ass while protecting my xbox.
I get home and I realized something... I have no way to get my Kotor save from my rommies xbox to my new one. I try a ethernet cable to link the two but nooooooo, you need some special bullshit duplex cable that I dont have.
The next day I buy a memory card to transfer my save over. I find out that the save file is too big. I go back to the store to return it and they wont take it back. Now Im out another $30.
I wind up just starting Kotor over on my xbox. I beat it and pick up some more games, including Vice City. I want to make my own custom soundtrack now... but wait, my drive wont read any cdrs. I go online and learn all about the Thomson drive, and of course I have one. I live with my shit thompson drive for a while until I start to get DRE's about a week after my xbox warranty expires. I go to ebay and buy a samsung drive and install it. Now everything works perfectly, but as you might imagine, I pretty much hate my xbox and microsoft at this point.
And thats the revile part. But eventually I forgot about all the money I wasted on that xbox and realized that theres alot of great exclusive games for it. I now own about 60-something xbox games and Ive learned to live with the giant green & black monster. Thats the special part.
But never before in my life has a console given me soo much trouble, or made me curse it soo much. Damn Xbox! :bomb:

Sega Saturn. I have so many good memories of that system. It didn't sell well, and I could never convince anyone to buy one over the PSX, but all of my friends had so much fun playing games on it!
Now it sits, beckoning me to finish Shining Force III and replay Panzer Dragoon Saga - I just said that last part to make everyone jealous.
