I'm trying to set up my dorm room and have a quick HT question. I just got a comcast HD/DVR Box. It has component outputs, HDMI, optical out, and a digital coaxial audio out. My 360 uses the only component input and optical input on my TV and Reciever respectively. Can I use HDMI and the Digital Coax for my sound.(with HDMI going to my TV and the Digital Coax going to my reciever) The reason I ask is because I know that HDMI carries both sound and video.

My guess is using the hdmi shouldnt make it disable the other sound output, but one way to find out. do you already have the cables?

Nope, was going to go buy them if I could. It is either that, or buy a component switcher.

Well the gamestop switchers are only 20 bucks so you wont lose much there if you dont use it, but im sure it will come in handy anyway. id buy the cables at wal mart and if it ends up not working or something just take them back.

Got them taken care of. HDMI + Digital Coax = yes

Yes, it will work. I have the same motorola DVR but from Cox. I use the HDMI to my TV and run the optical audio from the box to my receiver, and not bothering with the optical out on the TV...that would just be an extra wire I don't want to have to deal with
