anyone else get bad stomach acid here? Lately, whenever I eat a burger or something heavy, my stomach gets some serious acid. For some reason, it's the worst with croissants. If I eat croissant, it's pretty bad.
is there some way to get rid of it? maybe I need to stop eating so much barbecue ;)

I rely on Pepcid Complete; but I can't swallow pills, so that's an obstacle.
Garlic is one of the things that really hits me hard.

same here dude... I either try to crush the pills into small bits and drink it with fruit juice, if I mix it with coke , it makes it taste nasty :(
rescently i have been FORCING myself into swallowing pills, with some...intresting results... like many trial and error attempts, i think i found a way to swallow a pill without choaking or spitting it out :| and btw, I have had this problem since I was a kid, and im now 28!

I agree with Pepsid Complete. Really you should only need one a day if possible. If you have to take more than two a day, you might want to get to the doctor

Eh, I guess I'm lucky that I can swallow pills. My only thing is I need at least water, as I can never swallow pills even with the same amount of saliva I have in my mouth as the water

I've never tried swallowing pills without drinking something but I think most of my pills are too large to start trying that...

It took me forever to learn how to swallow pills. I don't know how I lived without them anymore. Just keep trying is all I can say, and you'll eventually be able to do it.

it's not like "crumple over in pain" bad. but it happens every time I eat a burger now.
I took pepcid...barely did anything. tums worked great though. except when you burp and it tastes like chalk, acid and burger :puke:

I used to have the *worst* stomach acid problems. Now I'm on a daily homeopathic treatment that works like a charm...
In a blender, mix the following:
-- Six ice cubes
-- Three tablespoons of chili powder
-- Two teaspoons of white vinegar
-- Five turns of fresh cracked black pepper
-- 1/2 tablespoon of tobasco sauce
-- Two shakes of worcestershire sauce
-- One cup of kosher pickle juice
-- One medium to large sized ripe banana
Pour into a tall glass and drink your way to good health, my friend.

You should get it checked out by a doctor. Taking over the counter stuff like TUMS is just a bandaid, it doesn't address the underlying problem. Some cases of bad reflux can even be due to an infection so a course of antibiotics plus antacids can do the trick.

could be worse, you could have had a problem where food gets stuck in your throat causing you to throw up and you loose weight... after that was treated, the side effect is once every few weeks pain where it feels like someone is crushing my adam's apple :O and the only solution is to drink lots and lots of cold water :)

I had this problem today after drinking VERY heavily last night, and my friend's dad recommended that I take a calcium pill. It cleared up the pain right away, and put my stomach at ease. Try it, it works.

 okay...but I think I'll add a fried chicken to the mix, along with a couple jalapenos, thai chiles and habaneros.

Haven't I told you anderson? There's a time and a place for everything and it's called college! jk.
that's what I usually do...the calcium pill. i think I need to change up my diet so I don't get heavy acid every single time i eat a burger.

canned/jared Tomato sauces give me heartburn. But if I make my own sauce from scratch I get no heartburn. OP if it gets real bad go to the doc. It could be GERD or just a simple ulcer.

I agree with the other posts about getting it checked out by a doctor if it's bad. Otherwise, Pepcid AC has been a quick solution for me. Plus they're chewable.

My oldest brother has Crohn's and it looks like I'm in line for it too. He can't swallow pills so he gets a special dissolvable pill. Very neat. Maybe you should look into it?

Chalk, bah
Just FYI, they've got some new tums that are a lot less chalky going down, called Smoothies (Smooth Dissolve). I never used to be able to take Tums because the chalkyness would gag me, but the new ones are pretty good, and come in a chocolate/vanilla combo too so they taste kind of like a chocolate candy cigarette or something. And they've got calcium in it, as well. Again, not for anyone with a chronic problem but I always carry some in my purse in case.

I haven't tried the Smoothis variety, but I know that Rolaids isn't as chalky as tums. Rolaids also makes a type called soft chews. They revised the formula lately to include gas relief in it. Those come in cherry or vanilla flavors
I've had my fair share of these things too. As after a night of drinking I get really severe heartburn

Prilosec is also very good for everyday relief. I agree with everyone else about the doctor though. Don't hesitate to get a check up.

Yeah, those soft chews aren't too bad, but they leave a... well, chalky film, almost, after I swallow them. But not nearly as bad as the standard chalky tums.

I not a doctor, but I wonder how pills work? I mean if the acids in your stomach are designed to break down stuff and distribute the energy all over the body and so on, how does the body know where to send the effects of the pill to the right body part? short living nanites?

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with you. You're body just can't handle too much acidic food (like most other people). Pizza, greasy burgers, soda, anything with a good amount of citric acid, beer, Chinese food, etc. etc., will most likely give you a bit of trouble. If the calcium pill doesn't work for you anymore, try Pepsid AC.

You're probably right. I think my vegetarian/health food years fortified my stomach...and the buffalo wing/burger years that followed finally broke it down :)

Ohh, I can swallow pills fine, I was just saying if I wasn't able to I'd be screwed when I had to take like 7 different pills a day. Now I only take 4 different ones. Hopefully you don't get Crohn's it sucks but so far I haven't had anything too bad happen to me...yet...*Knocks on wood and runs to eat some Enchiladas for dinner >_>*
