View Full Version : Why don't we see that much cross collaboration?

I know these companies are in competition but it would be interesting to see people like Yuji Naka, Shigeru Miyamoto and others collab especially if they worked with people from the old Kings Quest and Lucasarts shit.
I mean the latest time has been Tetsuya Mizuguchi with Phantagram but no real name at the helm with him, not like him crosscollaborating with Softmax and implementing some of Hyun Tae Kim's and YES I know I'm mentioning an artist here but he IS an artist and designs mean something.
Shit speaking of going even further I wouldn't mind seeing a pairing like Miyamoto and Miyazaki or Miyamoto and Bluth working on something, movie, game or both. With a pairing of either I see some REAL potential to make money gamewise. It's just funny how this shit doesn't spread out and how often do you heard of Uma..., shit you know who I mean, the character artist for FF6.
Anyone see where I'm coming from and would like to see some of these pairings?

Strangehold seems to be the latest and it's Woo but this type of shit isn't common.

You do realize that sometimes when movies are really big competing movie studios will sometimes go half and half. WB and Miramax both had their hands in "The Aviator".
You also can't tell me that some potentially awesome stuff would come out of a collabo of Bluth and Miyamoto or Miyazaki and Miyamoto. All 3 of them just seem to have a style that I think would mesh extremely well together.

well miramax is a smaller studio and they will have to go half and half. Their are talks of a collaboration between the guy who did Killer 7 and Kojima. Thats as far as things go, even if it was allowed to happen, it just seems like too many cooks in the kitchen

Man if only the final fantasy people and the dragon quest people can get together and make a game. I bet that could be one of the best RPG of all time.

I dunno...might get supergroup syndrome. Like if Miyamoto, Kojima, and Itagaki all worked on one game, it would be too hectic because they're all leaders:

"Princess peach should stay pink, simple and cartoony; all people should be able to like her."

"I disagree. Princess peach should be involved in a deep government conspiracy. She is a spy for the KGB and a former member of the Foxhound unit. She goes under the nickname "The Peach" and has fangs and is a vampire. She also shoots lightning out of her ass for no good reason. Nobody knows her true origins. You see, back in 1945 when the Nazis were building the first Metal Gear as a last resort against the allies, a team of philosophers--"

"STFU Kojima! Put some independently bouncing tits on her and call it a day!"

Well Itagaki is an idiot and ass IMO and the only quality I've seen coming from them is Ninja Gaiden which they DO deserve props for but unless they developed Fatal Frame too and correct me if I'm wrong but Team Ninja was not behind the helm of that. Well then that's one for one. Yes, yes DOA is solid but I'm more thinking of consistent original product or at least more shit like Ninja Gaiden, Team Ninja then consistently proving they can do it. I'm talking in current game terms here btw.
I also furthermore have suspect that Tecmo's love of MS in terms of exclusivity is limited to Team Ninja. Look at all the non Team Ninja games from Tecmo lately. ALL Fatal Frame games first hit the PS2 and NONE of the Monster Rancher games have hit the Box.
My issue with Miyamoto and Kojima is more their style, contentwise in terms of not working. I could see Bluth, Miyamoto and Miyazaki really meshing together though and creating an extraordinary product that would impress people. I think. Just imagine how cool of a new animated movie you might get with both Bluth and Miyazaki both having a hand in story and art direction.
I'd also like to see anyone bring back Amano, American studio or otherwise and develop game art with him. So what if he's expensive it's worth it. He's a LOT better than any of the newer artists that ever did Final Fantasy, in fact he's one of the most unique artists out there.

it was just a silly example of what happens when you have too many "virtuosos" on one project.
