Got the same emails. What the heck is going on over there at overstock.com?
It's probably a riot over there. I imagine some people losing thier jobs for not only letting the coupon glitch happen and not fix it in a timely matter, but to actually let some of the item get shipped out.

I wonder what'll happen if you dispute the ones that are getting cancelled. Maybe they'll just respond with yet another form e-mail that says sorry, you can't use the coupon like that, but here's a $5 coupon to make up for it. Either that or they'll review the order see that you're an idiot and tell you to go away. So tempting...

That sucks Warner. I hope you got at least a few orders in. I think my first order I put at 12:40 and my last at around 1:20 so all 5 of mine shipped and are on the way. If you ordered between those times (Eastern time), there is a chance some of yours might go through.

I posted a list earlier. I've got 4/7 items that say shipped. The one that got the cancellation e-mail is the one I care about the least anyways, so I'm not too worried... just trying to see if I can milk it some more, lol.

If I actually see mine get cancelled, I will give it a shot. Guess we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
Though at this point, since I haven't gotten anything sent to the account with my Lego Star Wars II preorder, I don't want to rock the boat just so I can get Incredible Hulk for $10 - it'll be that cheap elsewhere at some point or close enough. Cooking Mama is probably hosed as well, but ah well.
And for the accounts that got the emails, one had a preorder and an item that has already shipped, the other had an in-stock item that had not shipped yet, which pisses me off.
I can tell you this much, a Senior VP at Overstock is not amused at having to send out two emails to a huge number of customers.

People probably lost their jobs for "incompetence." And not just the "peons" but managers probably took major heat, and I shudder in fear what happened to the IT/web guy who was in charge of making sure whatever coupons/discounts/sales/etc. are mathematically accurate whenever it is applied. :shock:

I got the second email...they are messing up bigtime...LOL...now I'm laughing for sure. They dont know who did what or when they are just screwed.
Surely they cant recall packages once they are picked up by the carrier. If they can then there is no way they can ever say you cant cancel an order ever again...
I have 7 of 10 things shipped and preorders still open on 3 things. No cancellations yet, but I'm no longer very optimistic that the preorders will ship. I guess I'll find out next tuesday.

It's like if I got denied a 10-off-20 coupon at BB because what I bought was only 12 bucks. If it went through, yay me, but I wouldn't push it.
I agree, someone is going to hit the fan for this one. They probably lost thousands just off of us, not even counting FWers and DVDTalkers.

Well I got an email saying my microsoft points were canceled (even though theres already a shiping number) So I go to live chat and ask the last if I can get a $20 credit for the coupon. So she did it and got a $20 credit to use on anything! Worht a try to anyone who got an order canceled. Now I wonder if the card will ship also, that would kick ass lol

Even though you got a shipping number, if you try to "locate your package" clicking the UPS link, does it show up as "in transit" or whatnot?

This was their fuckup, and honestly they should eat it and hopefully learn that they need to properly QA code rather than rushing things like this through development.

There's a difference between malisciously trying to defeat a system and simply enjoying the benefits of a good deal. But I'm not going to go into an indepth discussion about morals over the "intraweb".

I didn't even have to dispute my one order that got cancelled. I just go on there live chat and asked why. They automatically gave me a $19.30 credit. So for those who did have a cancellation, give it a try.

yes i took advantage of this deal, i placed 10 orders
I expected them to cancel, i wouldn't bitch about it if they did, it was clearly a mistake and me having 10 emails using one credit card to order 10 1-item orders clearly shows that I took advantage of it
1 preorder, 1 cancelled, 8 shipped. I am happy, yet again, I never expected I would have a 80% success rate, if I knew I would've ordered more and pushed all my work aside.
This is their fuck up, true, but they do have a right to protect themselves, the fact that a lot of these orders are shipped or now at the hands of the customer can only mean a lot of firings at overstock. However if all 10 of my orders were cancelled (i didnt receive the email in any of my accounts even the account i used to order the cancelled game) I wouldn't bitch about it. I placed the orders EXPECTING THEM TO BE CANCELLED.

Because that would imply you made different accounts, which is hardly accidental or automatic. Overstock doesn't owe you anything regardless, and I hardly see why they should "eat it" in the process of correcting their error (which would cost you nothing). You can dispute it because you want cheap stuff, but don't act like they're obligated to give you anything.

Yes it was automatic. But it clearly said '15 off X'. If you have a coupon that says "1.00 off 2 Coke 12packs" and the cashier first takes it then says [before accepting money or before finalizing your purchase] "Wait a minute, this is for 2, you only bought one 12pack" you'd dispute that as well?
It's one thing to take advantage of a 'deal' like this, it's another to get all defensive and up in arms when called on it by the company.
It could be argued that yes you *did* do something to 'defeat the system', since the only place the 15/20 off truly showed up was in the last part of the order process; so either you knew about the glitch [in which case you were knowingly taking advantage of it] or, if you didn't know, you were trying to abuse it anyway [since it was a link, and since there was less than the qualifying amount in your cart].
This isn't really a 'deal' because it relied on someone screwing up; to me a real deal is legitimate.
Ultimately, of course, if they did 'eat it' and it's above a certain amount that they can't 'afford' to lose, it's going to harm either the consumer [in the form of higher prices or fewer deals] or the employees [in the form of lower wages or lowered number of employees.] Companies never 'learn', it all comes back on people, and usually it's the front line, lower echelon people who feel the greatest impact.
That said, I'll reiterate, I placed multiple orders and hope I get them; if I do, I'll count myself lucky, if I don't, I'll figuratively snap my fingers and say "Oh well, next time."
Dkellar: I've had orders charged and billed, then cancelled,before. They just process it as a credit to your card. Most etailers don't charge most orders until it ships, I'm not sure why OS does it differently.

Not the best analogy. More like the casheir accepting the coupon and charging my credit card. Then realizing her mistake and chasing me down in the parking lot to try to reverse the transaction. And yes, I'd sure as hell dispute that as the transaction was done.

here is my live chat with them since i figured hey it wouldn't hurt, seems like there are order cancellations DUE TO items being OOS and not because they caught you on misusing the coupon, you can use that to your advantage, regardless, i think many people are getting free $20 credit anyway even if they know you abused their coupon, which makes me wonder if this is overstock royal fuckup has not ended yet:bouncy:

Again, that's not the same. This transaction isn't complete until the item is at least shipped. Here, you don't have the product yet; in the store, it's in your hands as soon as you step to the end of the counter. More like you placing the order over the phone, then driving to pick it up--the order may be prepared, but the transaction isn't finalized yet.
If they shipped something and charged me, then wanted to charge me more, yes, I'd dispute that; they had plenty of opportunity to correct it, by charging me and sending me the item they imply agreement. But if they cancel anytime before sending me the item, then obviously the agreement wasn't finalized. But their shipment was tacit agreement of our transaction, ie, "I give you X$, you give me this product."
And as judyx3 says, using multiple accounts could definitely be seen as purposefully trying to game an error. I can't find anything on the site, but it's quite possible they have some phrasing as 'each person may have one account, consisting of one email, one billing address, and one CC number' or something like that.

WOW...all I can say is damage control! So here is what I have gathered based on several emails on this page that inspired me to live chat with Overstock in the same fashion:
1) At first they didn't know about the loophole, so a bunch of orders shipped.
2) The caught the error, stopped the influx by fixing the system, yet orders that slipped through still shipped.
3) As their losses mounted, the attempted to run queries on their databases to find the obvious offenders, and email them (prior to necessarily cancelling). They did this in a blind bulk mail fashion.
4) The then cancelled as many preorders as possible to avoid losses.
5) Last but not least (the customer facing damage control), they authorized their CSRs to apply remainder in-store credits to attempt to save face, and possibly even get you tospend additional money (I knowIwill with my 9.37 credit).
Let's face it...Overstock is a looking to provide the best customer experience possible. The might have lost in excess of 50-100k or so, but in the long run, that is a drop in the bucket compared to poor PR or even their advertising costs for a few prime time commercial spots.
With that said, I'd ask that anyone who has as little scruples as I to chat up a CSR if you had a cancellation, so that you can get yourself a game!
Well it will definitely make me check overstock for future purchases.

Also I have to thank overstock for being a part of the back to school fatwallet cash back promo giving me 6% back on my total purchase!
In other words 6.19 more off my total price cutting the price down to 97.01
Hella deal for 6 nice boxsets under 100 bucks.

Well I received my entire order!!! :lol: I did use 2 totally different accounts (mine and my gf). I also stopped myself from getting greedy and placing to many orders in fear that I would have a better chance of getting caught. So far I got none of the emails that are being discussed.

No, it's not as bad for them. If you think about it, not everyone will ask about every order that was cancelled. So they can be nice to the people who discuss the issue with them nicely and ignore the people they want to ignore. Good PR for them, and the few credits they'll give out is probably a drop in the bucket compared to all the orders that have shipped out already, if CAG is any indication.

And more importantly, they never found the account with my Lego Star Wars II preorder!

I found the e-mail in my junk mail about recieving an email earlier about a glitch in the system and told me to contact the CEO if I was not a prt of that mistake. I wasn't sure about all that, so I checked my actual order on Overstock and it was listed as "Cancelled and credited". The lasy said they put the $9 I spent back on my credit card. I went to puchase it again, but I'm still not seeing the $20 they said they would let me use again...

I used the $15 off twice for one in-stock and one pre-order. The in-stock has shipped, but the pre-order is still in process. The DVD comes out on Tuesday, so I wonder if they are still honoring mine since it comes out so soon. or maybe they just missed it? When does Cookin Mama come out?

One of my preorders Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is now cancelled. Saint's Row which should ship next Tuesday has not yet been cancelled. I think I'll wait and see if Saint's Row ships next week before inquiring about the cancelled order.
My other orders were shipped out on 8/23 but UPS Mail Innovations still does not have updated tracking info. -_-

Perhaps, but in my case they said they credited $19.30. So unless they've changed it to "$19.30 off $200 or more", it should just be there. But if I don't see it tomorrow, I'll throw another chat session in there and see what they say.

That is NOT the case. They canceled my Trama Center that I used the $20.00 coupon on. Live chat said it was out of stock when I ordered it. They gave me a $20.00 store credit. Then they said it was back in stock and that I could just reorder it. I reordered it using the $20.00 credit and it shipped the next day and is now in NJ on a truck I assume. Total for Trama Center DS was something like $7.49 :lol:

Just did Live Chat and they did give me $20 in credit! It works with anything. When you talk to the CSR make sure they give you credit and not a coupon.
I think I'm gonna save this for Gears of War. :D

Just wanted to say I had two games arrive yesterday, mercanaries and cthulhu both preplayed. These are the most mint copies I have ever seen. Not a finger print or a scratch to be found anywhere on the case. The only thing that seemed bad was a sticker that seals the case in the middle. But with patience it will all come off. They must send the discs out in a generic holder as rentals and then when they seel them as pre orders put them back. Even the instructions were mint so those were never touched either. Incredible.

Nope...once you talk to a CSR via live chat, the coupon should show up in the account you used...mine required no minimum, and the followup item has already shipped. The key is that the credit requires a CSR to activate it...if you don't ask for it, it won't automatically occur. Anyone who had anything cancelled (even preorders) need simply go onto live chat and ask for the cancelled amount to be applied to credit. Any amount actually spent from credit card, etc, will be refunded to the associated account.

I am excited!!! Saturday my $10.55 copy of Madden 07 for 360 gets delivered. I probably won't see my $1.40 Trauma Center show up til next week. Since I work tonight, the thought of Madden shall keep my energy up. Also, its my 11th wedding anniversary, so dinner at a fancy place, Saturday evening. My Saturday is looking pretty good. I received my copy of Jade Empire today... and it turned out to be the limited edition version!!! Also, it appeared brand new: perfect case, manual, and discs that were scratch and fingerprint free. If it had plastic wrap on it, I wouldn't have known that it was used! Time to check out their other so called "used" games!!!

The strange thing is, the one that was sent 1st class still shows in process on the outpost page. :?: Strange. If it matters, it was a used game (Lifeline (PS2)... which I didn't realize needed the headset... ah well, something else to order during the next major coupon glitch, lol). So I know I still have 1 more package on its way (Shadow of the Colossus). The other 2 items are still listed as In Process.

OK This deal just keeps getting better. I ordered 3 items. New SUper MArio Bros ds, Trama Center ds, and Sims 2 ds. 2 orders got through and Trama Center got canceled, and I got refunded. I asked LIVE CHAT why Trama Center got canceled and they said it was out of stock. They said it was back in stock (???) and gave me a $20.00 credit to re-order it.
Today I got 4 packages. NSMB, SIMS 2, and 2 copies of Trama Center. :applause:

Have the people who have been getting their credit back all been using their credit cards? Because I used my debit and I've spoken twice with the customer reps and both times they've caught me. They say that I misused the coupon and that they'll credit back my money, but that's the best they can do.
I'm not sure how to get them to give me the full credit for the order. And I always feel real sleezy when they say, "Let me explain to you clearly why you're order was cancelled." Maybe I've just been getting difficult reps, since other CAGS have been making it look easy. The last rep I spoke with offered to give me a $5 coupon, but it's not showing up on my account. I'm not sure if I should even bother trying again. Any advice?

i did live chat with my order the same day i ordered. They didn't say anything about the code. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was an automated thing I was talking too. Live chat will not hurt unless you bring up the code. Just ask when they think it will ship.

Had the same problem. At least it was Yoshi's Island, which I can just buy elsewhere and then return the crushed copy.. if it was the FFT:A that got crushed I woulda been SOL.

So 7.5/9 orders have arrived.. I know the RE4 guide shipped late, but the Kingdom Hearts was UPS MI just like three of the other games that arrived today.. wonder where that is..

EDIT: Bleh, the guy on the live chat wanted me to wait another 10-15 business days for the replacement process to run its course and would offer me no real guarantee that I wouldn't get another crushed item. I'll just make a trip to Best Buy today and pick up another copy, and then when I go to pick up Starfox later this week, I'll return the crushed one. Easy.

And for me, since if I end up not liking the game and want to sell it, the resale value is significantly lowered in the long run since Overstock decided that it's a smart idea to vaccum seal a small cardboard box.

I was gone over the weekend. Got home today to find Myst 4 and Jade Empire (both Xbox) waiting for me.
Both were shipping only and used.
Opened them up and they are in mint condition. Either they were never played or Overstock resurfaced them because I don't see a mark or fingerprint on them.
Also, I ordered Jade Empire, but it's the Limited Edition, so that was a nice surprise. I might order some preplayed from Overstock again.

That's what I always do. I don't understand why people bother sending things back to online retailers. Best Buy will just put your returned (and bent) copy back on the shelf. And the next person to buy it won't even notice the box, and will probably just throw the box away, like 90% of consumers do.

So they actually already factored in the 1st week of waiting time for you. You've only got one more week to wait (you and me both... and DustBoogie for his guide too).

I'm sorry to hear that... I always hate it when seller send GBA games in a crappy "envelope of doom"... bastards, can't they not realize the importance of keeping a new item "new"?! Mine was similar - except my "manifested" happened Aug. 26th. I got all 3 of my items today (Aug 29th). Once it gets "manifested" it is off the UPS tracking and just delivered with the regular mail. Yeah, the whole thing is pretty wierd. They spent 3 days getting my stuff from CA to WA, then transferred it to USPS, which took the standard 3 days for delivery of 1st class mail. Seems like they ought to have just sent it USPS to begin with!
Anyway, God of War, Destroy All Humans (both GH), and my Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVD all arrived in perfect (vacuum-sealed) condition- though the DVD is loose in the case, so I'll have to make sure it isn't scratched up.
Damn, I wish I had ordered more...

I received my Arrested Development 3 DVD yesterday. So, I received all of my orders.
I've said it before, but I really wish I would have ordered some more stuff. I guess the lesson here, which will not include a one-armed man, is to always try and get these types of deals even though they might get cancelled.

I received my Arrested Development 3 DVD yesterday. So, I received all of my orders.
I've said it before, but I really wish I would have ordered some more stuff. I guess the lesson here, which will not include a one-armed man, is to always try and get these types of deals even though they might get cancelled.
But at the same time, maybe everyone had skepticism to the point that they all ordered less than they would otherwise and thus a lot of it flew under the radar.
Then again, that's just a baseless guess, because I really can't believe they let as many orders as they did through. They lost a LOT of money. I can't believe they overlooked as many orders as they did, so I just figure there has to be some reason/explanation...
I should get my Arrested Development S3 by weeks end.

Just go back in and ask them. First time I did it, I followed up, and they just had me refresh my shopping cart, and it showed the discount.
Got my $20 discount, apparently Hulk was out of stock (even though it's still showing in stock right now). The dilemma becomes, what do I order? I'm looking at either Baten Kaitos Origins for $20, V for Vendetta for "free," Sin City for $10, or any number of DVD season sets for $20 off.
At least now it's just sitting there so I can mull it over for a while.

Just got my X-Men Legends 2 yesterday and my Valkyrie Profile 2 is still in process. I think there probably is a time cut off to when they could have cancelled these and when they already gone far enough that they can't be removed from the system. I think those of us that used the coupons on pre-order early before they figured out the glitch will have our orders shipped.

Damn this UPSMI ships painfully slowly. And the tracking is horrible. They don't even give an estimated day of delivery like the old UPS system. Package has been in Ohio the last three days. It's only a three hour drive from here. Sheesh.

Yeah it is really hit or miss, one of my orders came last Friday (so in like 2-3 days). My second order didn't come in until a week and day later. I don't blame overstock, UPS mail innovations is so unpredictable.

Can anyone offer tips on how to get store credit for the cancelled orders? Whenever I try, they keep telling me that I misused the coupon and that they've issued a refund to my bank account (I paid via debit), but I can't seem to get the difference in store credit. Is there something I'm missing here?

I only ordered Star Fox and Okami, and Star Fox got cancelled and I was unable to get store credit for the whole order or even recieved my refund for the amount I paid. I'm glad to hear that others have been getting the most out of this deal, but for me it has been nothing but trouble.

On a more positive note, it seems dvds ship much faster than games. My rosanne preorder that comes out next tuesday shipped today. So, I may actually get it close to release day.
I hope BSG 2.5 ships early too.

Received 5 out of the 7 items I originally ordered. The last two items were never shipped, so I had them cancelled and credited after the 15 day waiting period. Unforunately, they would only credit me with the amount I used to order, not the full $20 coupon (one order was $12.76 and the other was $11.11). Ended up just getting a couple of strategy guides. One I received the other day, the second (and last item... finally) has just been mailed. Overall, I'd definitely say one of, if not THE, deals of the year. However, as far as Overstock.com in general goes, I'd say their system is pretty hit or miss and don't think I'd order from them normally. Who wants to order from some place that makes you wait 15 days to cancel something when it turns out they don't have it in stock?

Jeez, finally got LIVE CHAT to listen to me and they sent a "replacement" package for my final order. I'm pretty sure this problem I had was completely unreleated to the coupon error.
Anyway, I received tracking info, that said USPS received the information, but it never got updated; ever. I then proceeded to talk to LIVE CHAT about a week ago. They told me USPS doesn't update tracking info UNTIL you get the package (who the hell do they think they're kidding?). I was like, "Uh dude, I ordered something at the exact same time as this order and it got updated tracking info just fine". Didn't respond to that remark.
Nothing came out of the first encounter, he told me to wait until Sept. 13th because Media Mail can take 2 weeks (I've never had a media mail item take longer than a week). I continued my inquiry again (they obviously just never sent the thing). The guy said he'd have USPS run a trace, and if there was a problem, they'd send out a replacement.
Just got shipping confirmation of the replacement. I'm interested to see what results came up regarding the "trace". I don't understand why they kept lying to me. Saying USPS doesn't update tracking info is just ridiculous (both guys said so); a convenient excuse for realiziing they never sent the package.
Well, that was a long rant. I guess I shoudn't bitch about getting a box set for $6. But, I'll complain anyway because I like complaining; it's invigorating. I should of been a dick and asked for a coupon for my trouble. :bouncy:
