Tournament Info
The first CAG Strikers tournament will begin on a TBA date the week of 8/5. Sign-up will close on the evening of 8/5 so I can begin putting together the schedule. I hope we will be running more tournaments in the future, so don't worry if you miss this deadline.

Format/Rules:
A bracket will be put together with all the interested parties on the evening of Sunday 8/5. The single-elimination tournament will begin as soon as the bracket is published, and matches should be completed as soon as possible. If two players have advanced from the first round and are matched up in the second round, they may play their second round match even if some players have not completed their first round matches.

Matches will consist of the standard best-of-three 3-minute games. Any stadiums with special effects are excluded. The valid stadiums for matches are:

The Vice
The Classroom
Galactic Stadium
Bowser Stadium
The Battle Dome
Konga Coliseum
Crater Field
The Palace
Pipeline Central
The Underground

When a match has been completed, the winner will post the results (score for each game) in the thread.

I've only played an in-store demo of Strikers, but the graphics looked exactly the same to me. The only real difference I could tell was 16x9 (not sure if the original had this), and the super shots and intros looked like maybe they were spruced up a bit.

So far most of the Wii games have looked at least a slight step up. I hope they don't start flooding the market with titles like this.

There is one big difference between Mario Strikers GC and Mario Strikers Wii - online play. That is going to be pretty awesome.

Word. Strikers was 1000x more fun when playing multi-player so I am glad to hear that it will have Wifi from the get-go. Of course it's not as fun as actually playing w/ people next to you but it's sure as hell better than playing the AI straight up.

Well, that's certainly good and all, but is that all Wii games are going to be? The new controller and WiFi? It should at least get a bit of a bump, I would think. Maybe I just can't appreciate it from the demo I played and this video.

I will say that getting Mario games like this, Tennis, Kart, etc. will be a blast, as long as Nintendo makes the network workable to get rid of griefers.

I think the game could be fun, though I'm apprehensive about the title simply because the 1P side was incredibly boring. I had fun with the game when I managed to convince people to play with me, but by myself it was a snooze. (I actually kept my GC version of Strikers just to have something to play with friends and family in case the Wii launch didn't provide decent party games.) 4P in Strikers is damn fun, though, almost fun enough to make up for the lame 1P experience.

And I'm not still not crazy about the big animations on the super shots, but I like that they've involved other players in them (the goalie blocks) to make them a little more useful.

I think this will be an okay title, but I just can't bring myself to get too excited about it quite yet after my experience on the GC. Need to see more.

mario strikers was so, so good. Hope there are more wii additions than just blocking for the goalie. It'd be nice to see some minigames using the wiimote and more fleshed out single player.

The goalie-block-the-ball gameplay seemed WAY too fast at its current state. At least the goalie can do something. IIRC, in the GC one, once a super move is pulled (which wasn't very hard), there's pretty much nothing a goalie can do to stop it.

I also hope they do make the Wii version more Mario-y. My main disappointment was that the stadiums were pretty bland. I still had a blast on the GC w/friends, even though all we would do is tackle each other repeatedly.

I agree about the goalie. The super shot sequences are the lulls in multiplayer--adding some interactivity will liven things up.

And also agree about the stadiums, though I think they shouldn't make the play area as busy as it is in Mario Power Tennis. I've only played MPT a few times, but I found the playing fields distracting.

I'm hoping that they add to the play control and come up with a simple, nifty way to avoid tackles that incorporates the Wiimote. Maybe you could jerk the controller up quick to avoid tackles. Almost every 4P game I was involved in was a tackle-fest, and a simple way of avoiding tackles (that everyone, not just the expert gamers, can use) would help diffuse the situation. Things can get ugly fast when the tackles pile up.

Amen. I was hoping they would take the Strikers engine and turn it into hockey for the Wii. Strikers already plays more like hockey than soccer - it's a walled arena, it has the equivalent of checking, and half the goals are one-timers. Super Mario Slapshot ftw.

Strikers GC also has 16x9 on it I'm assuming with the progressive scan cable.

I wouldn't get too worried as it will most likely take a little bit of time before we start seeing developers move past the "Gamecube graphics with teh Wii mote" phase we are seeing on the early Wii games.

So there you have one example, friend codes only required for one out of three online modes.

I'm curious to know how you came to that conclusion seeing how there is no mention of friend codes either way. Sure it sounds promising, but let's take it easy. For all we know all those matches required 10 friend codes and 20 minutes to initiate.

I think he's just paralleling it to the Tetris situation. One mode is completely random (global) search, one mode is local search, one mode is friends code. Its a reasonable assumption.

Not that the whining wouldn't be unreasonable, or anything. Just sayin' is all.

Wouldn't disconnecting be alot harder for the wii? It takes like five+ seconds just to turn it off, and to unplug it you would have to walk across the room.

For all we know all those matches required 10 friend codes and 20 minutes to initiate. There will be three types of matches: friendship, “regular”, and area specific matches. Area specific matches relate to the areas of the world, not the areas in the game.If friendship doesn't equate to friend codes, regular doesn't equate to Mario Kart's "worldwide" matches, and "area specific" isn't the same as Mario Kart's "regional" mode, where the latter two don't use friend codes, I will be wholly confused by their naming.

From Nintendo:

One of the many modes this game features is the multiplayer mode which can see up to four players in any one game (players must split between two teams). Players can also utilise Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Service to take on players from across the globe! Multiplayer modes include Ranked mode where players can compete to climb up leaderboards and Unranked mode where they can quickly select and play friends.I'm hoping that means two players can choose to be on the same team or on opposite teams.

botticus

Nintendo has their online shit together, at least in this one case:

Most excitingly, it will be possible for two players on a single Wii to play on the same team against two players on another Wii connected to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection network. "So [we] could team up on our office Wii and play you and Kristan on your Eurogamer Wii," a Nintendo UK spokesperson explained. That is excellent.

Random matches are region-locked, so you will never play a random match against someone from another region, but if you have the friend code of someone in another region, you can play them.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74967

I am very glad now that I sold my GC Mario Strikers for $30+ to subsidize this one.

http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2007/04/23/new-mario-strikers-charged-info/

Friend codes usage explained (maybe):
You import your Mii in Strikers, and get a friend code per Mii. This way, you and your family can have different friends to play with online.

Other details:

- 12 Captains, with each their own attributes.
- Bowser is a new playable Captain this year.
- For the first time you can mix and match sidekicks in your team.
- Boo, Dry bone, Shyguy and Monty Mole are new sidekicks.
- 9 new Stadiums, each with their own events. Such as no sidewalls so you can push the other team off the field.
- Each Captains have their own special ability.
- Sidekicks each have different skill shots.

Online play
- You’ll be able to play ranked and unranked games online.
- Playing 2 players locally on one Wii against 2 players on another Wii online.
- Season, each season is around 3 months, during those three months it will keep track of all your win/lose and the points you’ve won.
- Striker of the day mode. If you’re get the most ranking point in a certain day, your Mii will be featured on everyones Wii.

I am REALLY loving 2 on 2 online!!! That's REALLY great!!!

And hmm.. That's SORTA neat about the Friend Code = Mii. So if you made 100 Miis, it's kinda like having 100 different accounts..

Very nice. I'm excited about this now. Let's just hope there aren't alot of people whom disconnect, and people who hack and ruin the game :( (like they do on DS Wi-Fi)

I was just thinking the same thing. If they could pull that off, it would go a long way toward repairing Nintendo's reputation as online-unfriendly.

Of course, they haven't even officially announced that Brawl will be online for even ONE player, so that may be wishful thinking indeed.

Preview of the online play:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/788/788419p1.html

The good:
1) Lots of online play options/features (stats, rankings, Mii's shown in rankings, etc)
2) Looks like 2 players can play locally in the online game - AWESOME!
3) 17 stadiums (10 new ones in addition to those from the GC version)
4) Newer stadiums are more interactive (events/effects/obstacles/etc)
5) No lag (granted this is pre-release testing so the servers are not getting hammered)

The bad:
1, and it's a big 1) Game-specific friend's codes confirmed (blah...). But note there is a "Rivals" mode where you play strangers and thus don't need the codes.
2) Comes out on May 25th in Europe . When do we get it?

My kids and I broke out the GC version the other day and had a blast playing it multiplayer. I had never really played it much before despite getting it on release. We actually unlocked a new stadium for the first time ;). I'm looking forward to the new one, but I hope the Wii controls don't hose it up - it controls perfectly on the Wavebird as is...

Ah, well, as much of a pain as it is, we'll cope. I'm sure there will be a thread here and we can exchange codes out the wazoo like with DS games ;). I'm looking forward to this though. There aren't really any games I'm excited about playing online on my new 360 where the setup, of course, is much easier. But I'll jump through a few hoops to play this one online! The thing is, we knew that friend codes were coming from the preview at the beginning of this thread. I don't like that they are using friend codes, but you don't have to jump through any hoops to play online in general (Rivals mode), but you have to jump through hoops to play friends.

Yeah, well, I didn't read through the thread (again) - just used search to find the most relevant one to post this new preview in. I didn't want to create a new thread and get Scorch'd! ;)

Even though I read this thread earlier, I only vaguely remembered something about friend's codes, but I wasn't sure if it was 100% confirmed at the time. I thought maybe there was some question as to the need for them if you have the person on your Wii friends list (like, you'd only need the Strikers code if they weren't otherwise on your list, which would be nice, of course). So just wanted to get that out there so everyone could vent (again)...

Otherwise, though, looks like a great game. One of the big new Wiimote additions is the use of the pointer to block shots with your goalie (only on Super Striker shots I guess). Apparently you control a pair of hands with the pointer - sounds, uh, interesting... You also waggle to tackle instead of pressing Y (or whatever it was on the GC). I'm not sure I'll like that, but I guess I can get used to it.

Yeah, don't get wrong. They're picking some fun games to make online enabled. Strikers will have unlimited play value online.

The good outweighs the bad, as far as I'm concerned. Especially the more "interactive" stadiums. What's the point of a Mario-themed game if there isn't a 5% chance of getting eaten by a Piranha plant?

I am really looking forward to this game. The first was a blast. I was playing it the other day with a friend, and towards the end of the game, the computer just scored to take the lead. We were down 1 point in a game with 3.1 seconds to go. We needed to win the game to win the tournament. I pass the ball to my buddy off the start, he walks across the mid line, I knock out the computer player, and he pulls off a perfect Super Strike with 0.7 seconds left to win the game. Now that was some fun stuff.

Best thing about this game online (and other Nintendo games presumably) - no fucking headsets. :bomb:... Sorry, just bitter about being booted from a Burnout Revenge game for not having my 360 headset plugged in (yeah, it's really necessary to talk in a racing game ). I do have to admit I like the Nintendo approach for online more than MS's (with the exception of Friends Codes of course).

So, yeah, it would be nice for playing with friends or family, but for random foes it is completely unnecessary...

Technically Strikers Charged is not a GC remake. It is a sequel to a GC game. That doesn't mean that it wasn't planned for GC release in the first place, but I have never heard that it was.

RE 4 Wii is definitely a Wii-make of a GC game and it is going to retail for $30 so it seems Nintendo is true to their word in that respect.

OK, any sequel to a GC game = GC remake, got it. I will remember this logic for the future.

Yeah, I don't consider this a remake or simply a minor update - it is a new game (though with the stadiums and characters from the last one). I fully expect it to be $50. I'll have to decide if it's worth spending my rapidly depleting trade-in credit on this. Probably what I'll do is switch over my Mario & Sonic Olympics preorder (obtained via the 2-for-1 trade deal at EB ;)) to it. I think this is more of a Day 1 purchase than that title will be. For whatever reason, though, this wasn't in their preorder lists when I was choosing games for that deal. Seems like it ought to be if it is coming out so soon - but I don't think that GS date is official, so maybe that's why.

Without the online aspect I wouldn't have even considered buying this, as I felt that single-player in the original game got old pretty fast. With it, I'll probably pick this up when I can find it for around $30. Hopefully the Wii versions of Mario Baseball/Golf/Tennis will feature online multiplayer as well.

The online features sound more promising than most DS titles, but they are still lacking. Hopefully as others mentioned before, there won't be an insane amount of people who disconnect when they were losing like in Mario Kart DS. And if they do disconnect, let's hope it will reflect in their stats or something so they can be avoided.

REGARDING ONLINE:

With a permanent friend roster keeping track of everyone's online status and game progress; extensive leaderboard data; Rival play; individual Mii-specific Friend Codes so multiple players can record their football prowess; a simple instant notification system for match requests with another online player and the option for four-man matches, with two players per Wii, there really is much to be admired with Mario Strikers inaugural online advances. Sure, Xbox Live stalwarts might complain about lack of voice chat and a good few other things, but for a first console attempt on an entirely free service we're more than happy with the feature list and smooth play. Hopefully we'll see even more from Nintendo as its online service matures, but there's absolutely no denying the massive boost Charged's online option gives to the games longevity in both multiplayer and - more significantly - solo modes.

OVERALL:

Ultimately then, Mario Strikers Charged is an evolution of the GameCube original with the game's scope somewhat limited by its very nature. In other words, don't be surprised if you grow weary of proceedings after extended play. However, by directly addressing all of the first game's shortcomings with gusto, Next Level has created a sequel which almost feels like a completely different beast. Minor tweaks and upgrades significantly bolster the game's breadth and depth, while managing to retain the original's deliriously raucous multiplayer game. With the addition of online play this time around too, Next Level has cannily overcome issues concerning the first title's single-player game. In short then, Mario Strikers Charged Football is a deeply satisfying, hugely entertaining title and highly recommended.
I am so picking this up!

From the U.S. IGN's hand-on preview:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/791/791726p1.html

Strikers includes a total of 17 stadiums, of which nine are brand new; the originals have all seen significant enhancements in presentation and visuals. The new stadiums include the Sand Tomb, Thunder Island, the Vice, Lava Pit, Galactic Stadium, the Wastelands, Crystal Canyon, Storm Ship Stadium and the Dump. There's also a new Strikers 101 field. These stages are brought to life with effects that actually make the most of Wii, such as shimmering heat distortion, wind storms that may actually blow characters off the edge of the arenas and fantastic lightning bolt particles, to name a few. Not only are the environments themselves much more interactive and prettier than ever before thanks to crisper textures, lighting and particles, but character animation is fluid and the game's fluidity rarely dips below 60 frames per second. It also supports both 16:9 widescreen and progressive-scan display. We see so many ugly Wii games -- really, there's no other way to describe it. Strikers Charged is absolutely not one of them.

There's some good ammo to use against the people on CAG convinced the Wii has worse graphics than the Gamecube . Can't wait to see how it compares.

Oh, and :applause: for NO voice-chat. That is the one thing that is keeping me from playing on Xbox Live. Though it would be nice for friends (just not random matches - no need whatsoever to hear what anyone says in 95% of random match games). But I can actually go online with my son with this one. We'll have to practice up (it does have the 2 players on one system thing for online games, right?).

Found out myself:

What is especially impressive about the online mode is that you can play two-on-two matches with a unique twist. If you've got a friend over your house, the two of you can cooperatively jump online from a single Wii and battle against two more people who are sitting together in another living room across the country.

Sweet!

I'm a lot more excited for this than I thought I would be. The prospect of online play sold this in my mind, and Nintendo's full support for two-player online is the real topper. I know this game doesn't have splitscreen, but I'm gonna say it anyway: Matt Cassamassina is right about a lot of things, but he is NOT right about his desire for the phasing of splitscreen modes. Playing with someone in the same room as you will forever be more entertaining than playing any number of people online. But playing with someone in the same room as you WHILE online? That is hot shit, my friends. Very hot shit indeed.

There is a huge thread on neogaf with UK owners discussing Strikers Charged. The general consensus is that the single player is ok, better than Strikers (GC), but it is just a warm-up for the online portion which is a blast to play. They also said it is way deeper than it seems to be at first and takes quite a while to master.

The wiimote control is used to tackle (shaking), block Mega Shots (pointing), and messing up someone's Mega Strike meter (shaking). Other than that it is pretty straight forward - nunchuk to move player, buttons to pass, etc,.

I'm buying this game for the online alone.

If anyone gets Gamepro, before the review section I guess they do a quick interview with a different reviewer every month. This month they asked the guy what his favorite next gen game was and he said Mario Strikers Charged is his favorite game of any on all 3 next gen consoles.

Question: So what's the best next gen game you have played so far?

Answer: I'm going to go with Mario Strikers: Charged. Holy Santa Claus that game is fun, and extremely addictive. Now, keep in mind I said the game was "fun", not that it "has the best next-gen graphics" or "utilizes the system's harware to the best of it's ability" or any mumbo jumbo like that. It's just a great game. You can quote me on that.

Always a positive to hear stuff like that before a game is released.

The first time you play it, other than passing and shooting, you have no idea what the hell you're doing. It isn't until you spend a little time practicing that you're able to get a hang of what does what.

The game is really fun. There is no semblance of strategy the first time you play it though, but once you get a handle of game play mechanics it becomes really easy to get down on things.

Another thing I noticed was the music. Some of it is really aggro, but there were a couple of choices that raised my brow including one track that sounded like Justin Timberlake was about to come in. Overall though, it really works and I think the game has the potential to be the most fun game on the Wii.

I'm really looking forward to picking it up!

And what about the pointer-based goal blocking bit?
I've only been able to get that to come up once with a mega shot with Wario. After the big cinematic wind-up, it all happens really quickly. Quick nerves and fast reflexes are a must!

My friend has a Modded Wii too and I was able to spend some time playing the game. Its really a blast in multiplayer, don't know squat about the single player mode. The pointing blocking thing is pretty cool, if you can get off a fully charged B shot a meter comes up and depending on your results it determines the number of balls you kick and speed. It then shows cinematics and the screen shows the balls coming at you and you have to point at them to block them. Works pretty well.

I've never played Strikers on Cube and was able to pick up and play this quite fast. Its pretty simple. Nunchuk move, Wiimote shake for slide tackle, A pass, B shoot, D-Pad Jukes, and C was item IIRC. We had an intense 4 player game going and 3 of us were first timers. I'd recommend it for all so we can get some CAG Striker nights going!

I know on the original Strikers you could do a super shot and make two points. I saw a trailer of CHARGED and I saw that the super shot has now turned into like 5 opportunities to score goals (can score up to 5 goals in one shot). like the first one, you'll still need to charge up your shot, float in mid air, and hit the A button a couple times as a cursor slides back and forth.

that is plenty of time for someone to knock you down and steal the ball. if you want to beat the hardest level of the gamecube game, you won't want to let the computer take a single one of these shots. and you get pretty good at avoiding it.

So, do we need to be in people's main Wii Friends list for online play or are the game friend codes completely separate from main list?

This is taken from a Striker's FAQ on GameFAQs:

Friend Roster
Click here and the first thing on the screen that appears is your friend code.
You need to give this to people so that they can register you as a friend and
play Friendly games with you. To add someone as a friend, click "ADD FRIEND"
and input their 12-digit friend code (Which is NOT the same as the friend code
of the Wii message board).

So we will need to do the friend code thing once again for this game. Friend codes are tied to individual Miis so hopefully this system will carry over to other Wii online games. One of the Charged devs actually stated that the system would carry over but was then contradicted by some Nintendo rep.

I will have this as soon as EB gets it, hopefully no screw-ups on their part.

Should we keep friend codes in this thread or just plan on having a separate one? I don't mind updating it - at least that's what I say before 50 people post friend codes.

And for anyone looking for a deal, Family Video will give it to you for $39.

Who wants to take bets on server reliability following US launch? From what I've heard, everything seems to have been worked out for the Euros. I'm curious how US traffic will compare, and if they've bulked up for that traffic on top of the existing.

If past WFC-enabled games are any indication, it is going to be pretty bad for the first week or so. I know that the UK launch was pretty flaky initially but got better as time went on. I also remember that Mario Kart DS was pretty bad initially as well.

I'm just assuming that by the time we get all of the friend codes added, the online will be up to speed ;)

No, that it won't. The original Strikers for the cube is still $29.99 with the superior sequel about to hit! I'd expect Strikers Charged to stay at $50 for at least a year, probably 2-3.

I went to switch a preorder over to Mario Galaxy (alert, thanks to Guinevere for the info that Galaxy and SSBB are available for preorder now at EB/GS) and got into a conversation with the manager about Strikers. First off, he isn't sure whether they will have it on Monday or Tuesday (probably Tuesday but there's a chance Nintendo will ship them early for sale on Monday). But he also told me Nintendo sent out advance copies to every EB/GS manager! It's just one person's view, but he said it is by far his favorite Wii game. Doesn't hurt, anyway... can't wait.

Most of these have been up for quite a while:

So far so good--the game is pretty damn impressive right now, and I didn't really like the GCN one.

Online play is great with minimal lag (guessing it'll depend on who you're playing), though it's hard to tell for sure since obviously most6 people won't be on until at least the 31st. Wasn't able to connect to anyone under Series + Guest, so I'm guessing it only looks for other people who select that option (no 2p-on-1+cpu games), but again that's likely because there are so few online at the moment.

IGN Ratings for Mario Strikers Charged (Wii)

8.0 Presentation
From the gorgeous opening cinematic to the slick menus and big list of characters and stadiums, not to mention online play, Charged delivers.

8.0 Graphics
Very well done. Beautiful for a Wii game, in fact. Great character models and animation, advanced particle effects, cinematic camera angles and sweeps. Runs in pro-scan and 16:9 at 30 frames.

7.5 Sound
We really love the music in the game -- we just wish there was more variety to it. While very catchy, you'll hear the same songs over and over. Voice-work and sound effects have punch and atmosphere.

8.0 Gameplay
A fun, but repetitive single-player experience. However, the multiplayer offering is downright addictive. Great control mingles with a mostly well-executed and lag-free online experience.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
More characters, stadiums, cups, cheats and gameplay modes than ever. But it's the fun offline and online multiplayer modes that will keep you coming back.

Picking this up on Tuesday as a new video game start-up store in my area gives 10% discounts on all pre-orders with their $20 annual membership, so I've made that back in all my Wii pre-orders alone (FE, BWII, MP3, SPG, SSBB).

Does anyone know if it's been confirmed that players who disconnect will be penalized in their stats? I would jump online more with the DS, but too many wifi games there allow for disconnects without penalities and it is rampant on a lot of games (MPH, Chocobo Tales, Mario Kart) - kills the competitive spirit.

It has been confirmed that players who disconnect receive penalties (I think negative points). There are "seasons" which run each week and the points you earn during your online matches rank you on the current season's leaderboard.

Each week, the season resets, and everyone starts back at zero again.

For me it's not about the competition, it's more about simply wasting my time. I wait for people to join and connect, and then to see 2 of the 4 participants drop as we're halfway to 2/3rds done makes the wait completely not worth it. If disconnects aren't accounted for in a meaningful, visible manner, I won't bother with Nintendo's goofy version of online play.
Have the first, played it a little, seems repetitive. Don't want to shell out $50 for more of the same, but with online play and prettier visuals.
I agree with this mostly. I may eventually get this one, but I'm finished buying games at release due to my being starved for decent games. The only problem with Strikers is that it doesn't seem like a title that's going to drop in price very quickly. Oh well. There will be more than enough good games coming out over the next 3-4 quarters, anyhow.

Aw, man, guys... I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow. I called the Gamestop where I have this preordered and they definitely said tomorrow (there was some hope that with us being so close to NOA they might get it early according to the manager). Walmart is a huge out of the way trip for me, so I guess I'll just wait. No fair practicing too much tonight, guys .

And yes, it would be cool (and kind of odd) to use the 360 as a voice chat device while playing Strikers. I've never had both machines on at once though - hopefully the 360 won't fry the Wii. Now if only the 360 friends list would show that I'm playing Wii games too . I think MS and Nintendo need to enter some sort of partnership, though I would have mixed feelings about that!

... if I could connect. Guess I'll try that again later.

Haha - I am worried that with a real online game here I might have to move my wireless router closer to the Wii (it is 3 rooms and about 40-50 feet away). It has been a bit flaky in the past but it never mattered much when all I was doing was the Weather channel or Everybody Votes. I'll have to see how it handles a fast-paced game like this. I do have to say I wish the Wii came with a wired connection option. My 360 connection is rock solid through the old-fashioned ethernet cables.

lilboo, just go get it locally and return the Amazon copy to the B&M store when it comes.

True, but I'm not in THAT much wanting of this game..so I don't mind waiting another week really. Plus I just downloaded Paper Mario today..so hopefully that can hold me off for a week or 2 :)...plus this Pokemon obsession is killing my poor backlog. I've gotten so many games from the lagoons, prizerebel, etc..but ALL I've been playing has been Pearl & Battle Revolution!

Can't wait to start posting Wii friend codes!! lol this is exciting! (Though, I DO have Battle Revolution..yet, I haven't taken it online yet..)

I really hope this is a blast online. Would love to be apart of tournaments here!

Hey, I don't know if my retard gene is kicking in (for some reason, i feel confused. I have no idea why.) But if you want to make your Wii wired..you can! (Well, depending on your set up..of course)

It's not in stock, but they DO have something for it! I hope I helped lol :)

Wow, someone already has 409 points today? I don't know how many that is in game terms, but it seems like a lot. I'm thinking about taking a screenshot of my 168 ranking, since that's probably the highest it will ever be. Friend code added to OP.

daroga, double-check your FC. Tells me it's incorrect.

Yeah, but that, like, costs money and stuff. Plus I'd need to get another hub if my 360 and Wii are to share the one Ethernet jack in my entertainment center (I actually designed the wiring for my house built in 2003 - at the time I didn't forsee the need for more than a single phone/ethernet in my living room and I figured it would be for phone use if anything  - of course, this was before I got back into gaming). The wireless is good, actually, if I can get it to be more stable. It worked OK on the DS for Animal Crossing/Clubhouse Games IF I sat in the same room as the router.

So I take it shows worldwide leaderboards too?! If that's the case, is that 409 referring to someone has scored a total of 409 points..in wifi matches?

If that's the case, is that 409 referring to someone has scored a total of 409 points..in wifi matches? It has weekly/daily/friend leaderboards. triforcing (I think) has 409 points just today. And I believe those are points scored only in ranked (random?) matches.

After I finish the Fire Cup, I'm gonna have a go at a ranked match. See how badly I get beaten. :D

Oh noes, we already got Nintendo Wi-Fi leaderboard boosters ;). Though if it is random ranked matches, as you say, that would be more difficult.

I would say it was Triforce Johnson, but I don't think the Mii was black, so probably not.

Ohh that's right! This game was each Mii = specific friend code.

I know you (Botticus) haven't played online in a ranked match (right?), but to anyone that knows..can you add that random person to your friends list if you enjoyed playing with them?

I have a feeling I'm going to be a CAG favorite to play against... I suck. :D

Just snuck by in the Fire Cup finals, winning 2 of 3.

And Triforce is 34-9 today. Second place is 27-19. Damn these people get to play a lot.

And my first ranked match is against Mr. Bean.

Impressions:

I had a 3-star connection, and there was definitely some lag. It was playable, and I'm not sure if it was better or worse for the other guy, but it made you more preemptive than reactive. :D I got 10 points for the win, and 5 points for my goals. I'm guessing that second set of points is the differential (I won 5-0). Lost connection in the second game, not sure if he disconnected or if it just dropped. No point penalty for me.

And in a 4-star connection match with zero lag, I got absolutely crushed, 1-0 and 2-0. I think it'll be a while before I can compete with all these obnoxiously heavy-hitters. Hits were something like 24-3. You get a point for losing a match, basically participation points.

Gah....No Charged for me tonight. The only WalMart on my way home wasn't cooperating. I'll bet they had it, too. The guy at first looked like he didn't know what I was talking about and then, once I made myself clear, looked like he didn't care.

Full price at Walmart for me. I played one game with my wife winning best 2 of 3 vs computer, then I tried to go online solo. I got beaten badly. I had a 3 star connection and there was slight lag but not terrible.

I played through the fire cup with a few games crushing the computer 25-1 and 23-2. I haven't tried online since the cup. I did see some high ranked players already though. Is this region based or worldwide?

Anyone on that wants to play?I dunno... you're apparently better than me. I see on you on the daily rankings... if I just lose two more games, I'm gonna be beating you, though.

I wish they had an option for "rival" type matches. I strangely have a 3-7 record when most of the people I've played are something like 10 games over .500. The only people with worse records than me had bad connections, so I only got one win off them.

Well, from FF VII, I think, right? I only know her from Kingdom Hearts.

However, my wife had a funny observation. The Aeris that used to call had a much sexier voice. Now they have some "old woman" doing it. Note these were my WIFE'S observations, not mine ;).

Back to the game: Yikes, a perfect 5/5 from GamePro:

Crap, I just thought of something. Strikers (if it is anything like the GC version) is one of the all time greatest 4-player local multiplayer games, and one of the few my daughter would play with us (giving us 4 players along with me and the boys). I suppose this means I'll have to get 2 more nunchuks . I had 4 Wiimotes in anticipation of Mario Party 8 but have never used the fourth (as my daughter refused to play that ). But now I'll need to get one more nunchuk for sure, and probably two. I better get that third one, anyway, when I'm out getting the game. Guess I'll stop into Gamecrazy on the way to Gamestop. At least they (nunchuks) are easy to find now.

Wow. I mean, I love the game, but it's not a 5/5. I'd probably give it a mid to high 80s score, maybe just 90, but not a 100. Not even close. But maybe if soccer and Mario are both your two passions in life?

Anyone that's played online, have you ever gotten to be the home team? I'm always the visitor and was wondering if maybe on your end you're always the visitor for some reason. Likewise, have you ever ended a match and been able to play again? I just wondered if people were just wanting to play other people or if you really can't continue playing with a randomly matched person.
