Call of Duty 3 Wii Multiplayer facts (not good!)
August 24th, 2006
Yesterday I posted a story on Call of Duty 3 for the Wii, in which a Nintendo forums member said that Game Informer metioned that the game would have 16 player wifi. The info was indeed posted in Game Informer, but there was an error. I received a statement from Activision earlier today.
“That was a misprint on Game Informer’s part. We wanted to clear up that the Wii version will not have online multiplayer, but is being developed to take advantage of the unique controls and provide an amazing single player interactive experience.”
So there you go, no online multiplayer for Call of Duty 3. I think that is a HUGE disappointment, but at least we have the facts straight. Thanks very much to Activision’s PR agency for clearing things up.
this is Wiitarded, I really am unsure on whom to blame, the developers for not putting it in or from what I have heard Nintendo has been tightlipped on their online interface probably cause its not ready. This has prob stopped me from buying this game.

That's too bad, but I was planning on getting it for the 360 all along, so this news doesn't really affect me.

There's got to be more to this story. I can't believe that they'd leave multiplayer out of a game that has been defined by its multiplayer experience elsewhere.
Nintendo still thinks people dont want online games.
This statement was appropriate when the old dude that Iwata replaced was still around. Now it doesn't make sense. Nintendo has publicly recognized the popularity of online gaming and has obviously taken steps to accomodate it with the DS.
Granted, they may not pursue it for the Wii like MS and Sony do for their consoles, but they recognize and account for online gaming. That's why this is kind of surprising.

Nintendo isn't the developer of the CoD games.

Boo... first, they complain about not being able to go online and now that they have the ability, they don't want to go online. What the shit!

I don't think its a biggy.
I don't expect alot of people were buying the Wii for Online gaming in the first place.
If you did... then thats a lil odd.

I think there's enough use of friend codes on the DS to suggest that there are people interested in online play with Nintendo titles, at least. Maybe people aren't buying the Wii specifically for online gaming, but I would think that with first-party titles like Animal Crossing and Mario Kart for the Wii, the expectation of online capabilities exists. Nothing odd about it, actually. Not even a "lil" odd.

Great  back to square one with the lack of online play. I HOPE this is just a first generation game thing.

I sure hope this isn't going to be a trend with the Wii.
Developers might start cutting out online play to save some development costs if they "percieve" the Wii target audience as not caring about online play.

online play isn't the reason I buy a game, but it's an added bonus that I'll use every once in awhile. This game is missing a lot w/ out online play.

Maybe Nintendo wants the companies to really focus on nailing the user interface instead of spreading their attention to Wifi as well. Given the novelty of this new control scheme I think it's justified. After all, what good is multiplayer if the game itself sucks?
Certainly not a decision I like, but one I can understand.

The game is going to be beatable in a sitting, I don't see how removing online play(A re-playability STAPLE in today's game world) helps at all. I say give the game more development time if it's not ready now give it three months more instead of having to drop the price in three months because every game mag got all the drones not to buy it because "Lack of online play made Wii COD 3 a inferior product despite cool controls" or some other line.

Man more bad news keeps on coming. I don't even know if I'll buy the Wii anymore, probably for sure not at launch. I'm just sick of Mario, Zelda, and stuff...it just doesn't excite me anymore. Maybe its cause I got older, I dunno, I want more games like Shadow of Colossus or Final Fantasy's, those are so cool and it feels great to figure out how to take down one of those huge colossal giants, I actually usually figured it out right away just by looking at the monster and its surroundings, it was so fun, but theres no way I'm throwing down those bucks for a system. I'll probably buy a ps2 I guess until the Wii gets some actual good online games and a lot of stuff comes out and theres some players choice titles. You just dont really need to think in Mario/Zelda...at least not anymore. Its all so obvious what you need to do, and once you played one Zelda game its easy to figure out the puzzles. Man that really sucks I wanted online on this game sooo bad

I've got a bad feeling about this. Many other Wii games have already cancelled their on-line component as well (like Far Cry)
With inferior graphics and no online modes, the Wii better make up for it in the gameplay/Wii-remote department. It better be incredible

Not doubting you or anything but where did you read that Far Cry Wii canceled online play? I was thinking abuot this at work today and thought that since this was a launch title that this would happen. Just looking for a confirmation.

Why would you buy a game like COD3 on Wii anyway?
This type of game you buy for the graphics and sound, which would be significantly shitter on Wii. And I imagine the Wiimote won't really enhance it that much, since all you do in the CODs is walk and shoot.

True but then what is the whole purpose of the Wii at all then? If it's going to have significantly shittier graphics and sound then the whole concept of Wii has already failed. But the mentality of who cares about taking away online playability or even another common feature is like saying "Oh fuck it my house is already a piece of shit compared to the neighbors I might as well not paint it or mow the lawn" I really thought the Wii was going to be about bringing people together whether it was in their living room with friends or in the bedroom playing some one on the other side of the world.

Well, for me, I don't plan on buying a 360 for another year or two. So if I was so inclined to play a game like COD, which I am, I can either choose to wait a year or two for it, or buy it for the Wii. Graphics won't be any worse than GameCube, and I had no problem with COD2s graphics on the GameCube.

Alright fair enough, but then again, there's probably not a lot of people in your boat since Wii is more of a secondary console for most.

Very true, which is why developers need to give up on having direct ports on the Wii. To really get sales, they need to provide something that they can't get on the other consoles, usually meaning an entirely different game.
Though at least they are doing some interesting things in this one, I'll be curious how it works out.

Exactly true, normal ports are not going to cut it.

Having it a good PC pretty much makes FPSes irrelavent if you only plan to own a Wii.
