I have guarded thoughts when it comes to this game. I just can't ever see myself enjoying a JRPG on a Microsoft console. It's not like the developers have a sterling record of creating great RPG's (Eternal Ring, Evergrace). Anyone thinking of picking this game up this coming week, along with Saints Row?

I think I recall OXM giving it like a 7-something. I have not seen a lot of game mags review it yet though. I had actually held back from buying Madden 07 till I found out if I should get this. For me a RPG would trump a sports game. Well today I started Titan's Quest so I will be tied up w/that for a bit.

A rental at best.
Since I've traded Oblivion back in, I could really go for an RPG. And it's been a while since I've played a decent, linear, Japanese-style RPG. I'm hoping for the best with this one.

I'm picking both this & Saint's Row up this week, but this one is probably my most anticipated of the two. The videos look gorgeous, and it looks like it has a fun combat system. No way would I let a single character keep me from getting an RPG. But if it REALLY bothers people that much:
I've been told that character is only in the first 3 hours or so of the game.

Unless it gets catastrophic reviews I'd expect to get it eventually. By the time I'll likely have a 360 it should well discounted.
I liked Evergrace (although its prequel was a gameplay experimet that didn't work) and Eternal Ring. They were perfectly enjoyable action RPGs that were shifted from the PS1 to be PS2 launch titles. For the right price, of course. They weren't the greatest games but they did far better at reaching their goals than many projects with ten times the budget.
Enchanted Arms is a different genre. The saxophone weirdness seems to draw on the same lunacy as some of the Shadow Hearts series, which also had some blatantly gay characters.

I'm really enjoying the game right now. The battle system is really strategic, as you have to place your characters for the attacks, and the golem collecting is addicting already, and I'm barely into the game. Also the random encounter rate is kinda high, but all you have to do is hold RT and press start and your characters take care of business. The gay character isn't so bad, he's actually funny to listen to, even if it feels odd. He'll say something so gay you can't help but laugh, and then get a strange feeling like "did I just laugh at that?" At least rent it before you judge it, you might like it.

Although the general consensus is this game is OK, not breath taking. I'll probably pick it up at $20 or less which is bound to happen in a good year or so if they decide to distribute more copies. Everywhere I went I've seen very few copies, except for Best Buy apparently.

I saw this game 2 or 3 times today at different stores... came pretty close to buying it, but I'm kinda glad I didn't now.
This is because you'll quickly learn that the auto battle and fast forward buttons work extremely well. So well, in fact, that you'll probably come to rely on them and let the computer do most of the fighting for you. It's hard to say that you're better off watching the battles than playing them, but the occurrence of battles is so frequent that the fighting can become tedious.
For me, that's a definite pass. Any RPG where the only fun I get out of the battle system is letting the computer play it for me is time I can spend playing an RPG with a fun battle system. Along with this:
Add to this the ability to save anywhere, the option to retry a battle if you lose it, and the fact that you get all of your HP and EP back after each fight and you have a game that requires little mental effort
And this:
The battle system is generic and battles occur far too often for their own good, making for gameplay that can get boring at times. The story delivery needs a complete overhaul, starting with the character's dialogue
I think I'll just hook the PS2 back up and play some Disgaea 2 while I wait for Valkyrie Profile 2... kind of a shame, as the game looks pretty good graphically. I'll get it for $30, though, just to give it a whirl.

Im a couple hours into it. Seems to be a pretty fun game, decent dub (much much better than N3's - even with the homosexual guy in your party), pretty nice cutscenes, good storyline, and one thing my 360 has been craving... Random battles! (Sorry Oblivion :-p).
Not sure if its buy-worthy yet (gotta depend on the replay value), but at least give it a rent.

Well, my post didn't even call names... I just stated how would people have reacted differently if say, a black person was stereotyped, that I thought the stereotypes were stupid to begin with, because rather than make homosexuality part of this guys character, they chose to make it is focus from what I've seen, and that I wonder if that video hurt sales and they shouldn't have released it at the same time as Saints Row.
It's kind of very hypocritical to delete the posts in here yet leave the one open about "a trailer for a gay saxophone game" where it was ok to make fun of the dude for being gay.
Like it or not, this game features an overly homosexual character, which is pretty much a first and caused the game to get alot more recognition than it would have if that video never showed up. Apparently we will never be able to talk about the ramifications of this on CAG though without getting modded.

Its good to hear something positive about it.
How is the online multiplayer? None of the reviews I read online had anything to say about it other than the fact that it was limited in its options. Personally, the online multiplayer is what has me interested in it because I'm hoping it would increase the lasting value of it. Usually you play an RPG and that's it, there's no reason to touch it again unless it was a spectacular game.
Also, how is it for a casual JRPG fan? I've only played a handful of JRPG that I've liked so I'm kind of on the fence about it.
I'm enjoying it very much--but I've always been a sucker for a turn-based, linear, Japanese-style RPG. Nice to see one on the 360--awful, however, to see its discussion relegated to a series of comments about the sexual orientation of one of the characters.

The gay theme really made no difference to me either way to tell you the truth.
The only reason I've been hesitant to pick it up is because all the reviews I've read seem to stress the fact that its painfully generic. Given that I'm not a big fan of JRPGs in the first place, I'm worried that I won't like this one. Then again, one of the biggest reasons I don't like RPGs in general is when you have to talk to a million people in the game to figure out where the hell to go, however, the reviews seem to indicate that this isn't the case with Enchanted Arms.
I dunno, I might go to EB tomorrow and take a look at the strategy guide and the game itself to decide if I want to get it.

This game is pretty good, but the review criticisms hit the mark. I find myself using autobattle to cut through large swaths of random encounters. After fighting the same loadout a few times and winning handily, why not autobattle? The problem with this is the random encounter frequency, the map size and your slow run speed combine to have you fighting the same groups dozens upon dozens of times. Throw in the fast foward button and the game is nothing more than you walking through dead, shiny maps watching movies of random battles, with a button press here and there to move it along.
Nevermind the fact that the game is poorly documented. Everyone is running into the "why is my party starting with 1 hp and ep?" question. I lost a whole run on a dungeon because I was pumping ranged on characters that were actually using "direct" attack skills that just happened to be "ranged" in distance.
It's confusing and poorly explained, which is dumb after that starting tutorial, which painstakingly put you through JRPG 101 training, but touched on none of the proprietary stuff.
Still, it's an amusing game with a charming, albeit bad, story and characters. And the odd boss fight or first time fighting a new loadout of random encounters is interesting.

Seems like Gabe is just a raving fanboy for the game with his mini review... and he admits he's only put 8 hours into it? I don't know, his whole little segment seemed like he had a "holier than thou" attitude about the game, like everyone else "just dosen't get it".
I also got the feeling he is digging it because it's the first JRPG for the 360. I don't know, I'm more inclined to trust the reviews here from people who have a put amount of time into the game, espically the post 2 posts above me. Gabe dosen't seem like much of an RPG'er unless it's World of Warcraft so I really don't trust his opinion much on which RPG is hot and which is not.
The fact they never really bothered to touch on Disgaea 2 yet are raving about Enchanted Arms is good of odd as well, since Gabe seems to be really digging on the "strategy battle genre" as he calls it. Lately PA as a whole seems to be heavily biased towards the 360.

I think the game is great. Definately better than some of the other J-RPGs ive played. Im about 49 hours into it now, 96% complete. The boss battle is whats getting me. You gotta fight 8 back-to-back fights, i got through the 4th and my god damn 360 froze up. Just tried again and i beat the game. That definately wasnt the kind of ending i wanted to see, can only imagine what the "Sad" ending is...
The random battles bugged the hell out of me. The word "Random" really did explain it. Sometimes i'd go 10-15 seconds without a fight, some i'd take a few steps and have one. Luckily later on (about 76%) the Casino gets a nice new prize skill called "No Random Encounters". Believe me, it helps loads.
Hopefully low sales and bad reviews wont keep MS from bringing over more J-RPGs. I personally cant wait for Trusty Bell.

For years and years since way back when people have wondered if the reviewer really played through the game or even gave two shits about it. Now we have the gamertag and the ability to see just how far they got or what they unlocked. People would not say half of what they do if they had to pony up to not having played through it before slapping a stupid generalization on a steaming pile of shit review.

I don't know if it got a price drop or not but I picked this up for $30 at EB yesterday. From what I've played it's not as bad as people say it is.

Yeah. I bought it at the B2G1 Toys 'R' Us sale, whenever that was.
I've enjoyed the game, from what I've played of it. (15 hours, or something.)

i searched. nothing helpful was found.
ive only seen a walkthrough written by the same guy posted everywhere and its not very good.
his strategy for beating the end boss is gamble until you have enough money to buy gems for skill points to stack your HP over 7000. (that would take a VERY long time) even if you cheated.
i havent had any trouble with any boss until the ice queen and she trashes me bad.
im using a party of atsuma, raigar, odin, karin (sometimes gallerya)
everyone is at 2khp or so, atsuma is at 3.7khp
any help would be awesome. im tired of not beating her.

Ug, I just fought this battle. What I did was have full ex bar and have raigar use his tiara protection ex first round. I tried to get it so one of the minions went behind the ice queen so she was forced to take a position on the left side of the board in the second square, this wasn't a necessity though. I pretty much threw everything I had at her until she died. Forget the minions... if you have the protection on they aren't hitting for much anyways.
I did this quite a few times, but you have Atsuma at more health than I did so as long as you keep him going and attacking with fire you should be able to do it.

hmm. what party are you using?
i guess it can be done. not sure what else im doing wrong, its really killing me when she freezes me and hits for like 1700+ then does it again right in a row.

Well I used Atsuma, Karin, Raigar and Phonecia (the fire golem from the fire temple).
I made sure I had them all equipped with supports to boost their stats. I had full healing items. After they got hit by the ice queen once (which it was about 1200 for me) I would have Karin heal and keep them attacking... on the second time I had them use a full heal item. Make sure Atsuma has an attack equipped that can hit her all the way in the back... the fire wave one worked well for me. I had Phonecia do the fire blast attack which took off 3000+ of her health. That means I only needed three rounds to kill her. You have to do it quick.

Or you could get the omega golem (he's on the very last level in the dungeon inside junktown) that knocks each of those boss's hp down to 1 hp. I felt cheap for using him though.

hmm. might go pick him up. thats the shrine through the junk city pinnicale right.
the fire temple golem gets raped in the ice queen fight. i dont get a hit off with her. and atsuma only makes it to the double ex round. i get her down to about 3k then my party gets decimated and i have raigar left.
