DirecTV, since they have more local channel providers than Dish. Plus the DirecTV menus and useability is better than Dish's, in my opinion. I think, price wise though, Dish might be a little cheaper.

I'd say Direct TV as well. However, don't believe the commercials they show on TV. If you get a bad storm, you will have no reception. Other than that, it's great.

The only real difference is the NFL Sunday Ticket. If you want to buy that, you'll need DirecTV.
I have had both and I prefer DISH.

Depends, if you want howard stern, thats DISH. If you want NFL Sunday Ticket, DirecTv. I have DirecTv and it works great, check the prices for both and make a decision.

I take back my DirecTV endorsement. I moved recently, and after having DirecTV, I wanted it back, since I still have my receivers, and am still under contract. So they have this Movers thing, where they will come out and hook it up at your new place, free of charge (if you committ to a years worth of one of their packages). Only catch is this:
IT TAKES FOREVER FOR THEM TO COME OUT.
I moved into my new place on Sunday night, August 13th. Called up DirecTV on Monday, and they were all set to come out that Saturday, the 19th.
The 19th rolls around, and DirecTV is nowhere to be found. The guy doesn't show up, doesn't call, nothing. So I call them, and they say that the tech guy couldn't make it. This was 100% DirecTV's fault, so what do they do? They don't reschedule me until the 29th of August! 10 frickin' days, I have to wait, because they couldn't get the guy to my house.
August 29th comes (yesterday), and the guy actually shows up. 3 hours later, he says that, because of the way the cables and whatnot are set up at the townhouse I live in, he's not able to get a connection. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to let him drill 2 holes in the walls (couldn't get ahold of the landlord to ask), so, I tell him that they'll have to come back later, when I get permission. The dish is already mounted on the side of the house, and like the guy said, it would take about 45 minutes worth of work to drill the 2 holes, and set everything else up. So I call to get it re-scheduled, AGAIN. And what date do they give me?
SEPTEMBER 18TH! 20 DAMN DAYS LATER!
Absolutely ridiculous. Needless to say, I'll be exploring all my other options until that time. Oh, and before DirecTV even came out, I was supposed to get Dish Network through some local installation company. They were all set to come out one night, but never showed up, never called, nothing. Beautiful.
One last thing. Not only could the DirecTV guy not get mine hooked up, but he unhooked the DirecTV for EVERY NEIGHBOR ON MY SIDE OF THE STREET. I half expect to see a lynch mob outside my house because of this.

You should call back and raise some hell with them. Not only did their installer fail show up on the specified date for a rather routine installation, without so much as a phone call, his incompetence caused loss of the service for other customers. You have apparently been a loyal customer of DirectTV, even recommending it to your friends over the competition. You deserve to be treated better than having a simple installation pushed aside for nearly a month.

The thing you gotta do is find local places that do installs. I called this local place, and they were real nice, and are gonna send someone out tommorrow.

Direct TV!!! I had Charter, but their Customer Support were rude and my wife dropped them. I too was at a crossroads with DTV/Dish, but after talking with my bro I went with Direct TV for one reason alone. If you're not getting a DVR than disreguard the following. Like I said I wash deciding which way to go. I wanted a DVR and my brother who has Dish said you can't record one show and watch another. This might not sound big now, but wait until you want to watch one of your favorite shows and record another on a different channel.
If your getting cable without the DVR service I would just call and ask
th providers. Also DTV seems to always have nice incintives to go with them. I got NFL Sunday Ticket, a portable DVD player and an additional DVR box for free when I signed up. Also Dish gives out refurbished boxes while DTV gives new ones.

DirecTV, really great customer service..when I didnt get my rebate they credited my account. Alghough its a bitch wating for installation, when I upgraded to DVR service I waited a week to get it installed, but it was smooth and had no problem.

I had a similar problem with the install with DirectTV. He said since I had a finished basement he wasnt able to set it up because Tivo wouldnt work which is complete BS seeing how everyone else in my neighborhood has it setup the same way. He was just lazy and didnt want to install it. So I called up Dish and they set everything up the next day and no problems.
