Wow, another racing game on the 360. How was I going to live without it.....

Personally, I laughed when Peter Jackson was talking about the Diversity of 360 games. Diverse I guess if you like Racing and shooting things.

A friend of mine said the same thing, that the conference basacially boiled down to Halo, Halo, FPS, XBLA, Racing, FPS.

Dosen't bother me any since that's pretty much why I got a 360 anyways ;)

OK, when you boil down the games on the 360, you get this.

40% FPS
20% Sports
20% Racing

that leaves another 20% towards all other genres. Including a total of 2 RPGs. The future looks bright for game Diversity, but right now its just not there. Sports and Racing will always be a mainstay of any gaming console, and the FPS genre is dominated by Xbox on the console side (and I think thats great). But Im not going to call the array of games diverse. A College does not have a diverse campus just becuase it has 20% of its students a minority. The college I attended was 40% White. Thats diversity.

I get that people like those 3 genres, but Im looking forward to playing something different in the comming months, not the Same ol' Same ol'. If I wanted more of the same, I would have just kept playing my old systems. Here is to the future.

Well, if we're going to be spewing about percentages, at least get them somewhat right. I think there are 61 games currently released for the 360 (I might have missed a few) and the percentages break down like this:

Sports 33%
Third-Person 22%
First-Person 15%
Racing 11%
RPG 5%
Vehicle Combat 5%
Fighting 3%
Strategy 3%
Extreme Sports Games 3% (Throw that into sports if you want)

That's not including XBLA games. That's about as diverse as any console's library gets.

Don't get in the man's way of using gut feeling and just being a grouser to make up percentages. Screw you and your "data-based" percentages. His mean more because he believes them. Nyeh! Just let the man post incessantly in the 360 threads about how much the 360 sucks. Personally, I enjoy it; that's only because his gamertag is his signature.

With regards to your "real world numbers," where in the hell do you get 5% RPGs? I can think of Oblivion (oh, Final Fantasy too); that's 2/61, or just over 3%. I'm evidently missing another release you classify as an RPG. What game is that?

I don't hate the 360, its my favorite console. Im just trying to knock down the OMG! fanboy stuff here a little and sit back objectivly.

I think all the console companies are overcharging the fuck out of us. $60 for a full extra Wii controller? Sorry, Ill join the sheep again.

OMG!!!1! 3 Halo games!? FTW!

And for the record, I hate trying to attach a genre to games. It's a pain in my database ass.

What part of "arbitrarily making up what genres constitute what percentage of releases for the 360" is objectively done?

Yeah, it was a mod for WarCraft 3. And it was 2 years in the making. They shut it down last week or so.

It was for Command and Conquer Generals not WC3. They shut it down a few weeks ago. The rumors sprung up instantly that Bungie was at work on an RTS because no one from MS bothered them at all about the 2 mod for the two years. Turns out the rumors are true.

I have to wonder how exclusive Splinter Cell 5 and Bioshock are, as I'm seeing a huge * next to that announcement. I'm betting that it's a timed exclusive seeing what they've done before with the SC series.

What else can they do with the PGR series to justify a fourth iteration? I haven't seen or heard of any specifics, but I'm a little confused about the quick announcement of a sequel to a game to we saw just last year. It's interesting that they've got two projects rights, one of the PS3 and one on the 360.

Guitar Hero 2 probably won't arrive until next spring at the earliest since they want people to buy the PS2 version first. Will they offer a downloadable pack of the GH songs and for how much since that game's still quite expensive a year later? How much more will it cost since it's bound to cost more to produce than it did on the PS2? How long until we hear of PS3 and Wii iterations?

I'm surprised it took Microsoft this long to realize that Halo's their best franchise and that that they can exploit it to create spinoffs like most other companies have done with their best franchises. It's good news for those that care about the Halo series.

Not really that much in the way of interesting news to me.

Ohhh that's good thinking, I'd still rather wait a year and pray that we get some sort of MGS4: Substance.

By then the next SC and Bioshock will probably be on PS3 too.

Considering the next SC should be out next fall, where MGS4 is likely to be released, as well, it's likely. However, it won't do much to hurt MGS4's sales.

The Peter Jackson announcement (of a new genre of gaming) is huge.

I know free-thinkers will say, "lol isnt that what games is already lol", but any advancement / reinventions of the basis of video games is huge.

I can't wait for more developements.
