Hi from Goozex,
For nearly two months Goozex has had a presence here on CAG and today we’re excited to open a new thread talking about our new services. During that time we have answered many of your questions and more importantly, we have listened to your feedback. We want to continue working with everyone on CAG that trades their games on Goozex, and with the permission of CheapyD we have opened this new thread.
So what’s new on Goozex?
Yesterday the coupon on CAG expired and we are launching a new one effective today, September 1, 2006.
Code: CAG-1006-31
Get: 2 FREE trades and 200 points at first positive trade (in addition to 1 free trade at sign-up)
Expires: October 31, 2006
All you have to do is send out one of your games with positive feedback, and the coupon will automatically grant the free bonus. Basically, you can get up to 3 games for free by sending out one of yours!
Yesterday we launched trading capabilities for portable games (PSP, DS & GBA)! This has been requested by a lot of CAG users and we are happy to extend our trading line.
Another improvement that has been a real sticking point for a lot of CAGers has been our shipping method. We have heard you and we have come up with a solution that still maintains our low trade fee ($1.00) and still gives users the option to receive and ship games as they want. That should launch in the next two weeks.
If you want to keep up-to-date about our upgrades check them out here:
http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/about_update.asp
We hope you continue to share your Goozex experiences with everyone on CAG and with us, because we really are trying to make it work for you.
Happy Trading!

OK I joined this morning and listed a couple of games. One of my games was requested today and I've accepted the transaction. I plan on shipping the entire game (case, manual, disc, etc.) in a bubble envelope at my own expense.
My suggestion would be that the Goozex people check out LaLa (a similar cd-trading site) and read about the whole packaging vs. no packaging debate that went on there before they added both options last month.
I hope that in the near future Goozex will be able to have an option for people who want complete packaging, as I really would fall into that category. Thanks!

Hi heyyoeddie,
Thanks for joining and making your first trade! We are going to update our mailing options for buyers and sellers and expect to launch Mailer Matrix on Sept. 15th.
Basically, as a buyer you'll preselect before a match how you'd like to receive a game (disc only, disc + manual, full package) and then you'll be appropriately matched with a seller who has agreed to send disc only, disc + manual, or full package.
It should work that if you're the buyer the fastest way to get a game is to choose disc only because you'll be in the queue for all three options and you may get a full package. If you select to receive only a full package the games you request may take longer to receive. Conversely, if you're the seller it will be faster to match you if you agree to send full package because you can send to all three types of buyers. If you select to send disc only, then you may have to wait longer to be matched with someone who only wants disc only.
You can say how you want to ship or receive a game on an individual basis...

OK, that's basically how LaLa handled it as well. So, maybe I should remove all games from my wantlist for the next two weeks -- so that I know I can get a complete game?

You may not want to do that only because once you come back in you'll be placed at the back of the queue. That said, we have had a lot of users give positive feedback on receiving a complete package. A lot of CAGers have been proactive and helping us with new mailing options!

If you haven't heard of them, goozex.com is a website that facilitates used video game trading with a points system. (Edited because first game free deal has changed.)
They've been supporting disk based consoles in the past(GCN, Xbox, Xbox360, PS1&2, etc) and I've been very pleased with their service. But now they've added GBA, DS, and PSP games to the site for those who love portable gaming at a cheap price ($1 per trade)
I've swapped 20+ games on this site and I've never been screwed.
Enjoy,

Considering you can get games on here that have been cancelled (A Boy And His Blob for DS), I don't particularly trust the validity of this site.

Are you sure? I just got Feel The Magic and I was charged the points and trade.
So far, this site's not bad. I've gotten 2 games already, one in mint condition and the other in okay condition. The thing that I didn't get was the last game I got, the sender shipped it in a bubble mailer......but the game only! Why couldn't he just slip in the manul and inserts! Bah. Oh well.

Hi Cmosfm,
Goozex gets its games database from Muze, a content provider and every once in a while you'll see a game like A Boy and His Blod that shouldn't be there. Muze provides us with the game icons, description and names and we build that into our site.
Also, I just checked and A Boy and His Blod is not being shown as available on Goozex. In other words, nobody has posted that game on our site.

I just signed up for it and posted up most of my games for trade. But! I forgot to put in the CAG coupon that you gave us. Oh well, I guess the extra $1 won't hurt me too much for that free trade

Thanks for the code. I like the look of the site, but not the feel. The searching part is a little bit annoying. It would be nice if you could have an option to search all systems, or all categories, because it gets stuck on that one category.
EDIT: Whoops, ok, I guess if you just click it again it will cancel the filter.

Goozex, can you explain the shipping Policy to me? Do you need to ship the game complete. I'm not a big fan of disc-only games.
Also, I have my own box mailers, if I use those am I covered my Goozex still? Or do I have to use the print out paper?

Hi Technique,
The shipping policy is as such:
1. You are only obligated by Goozex to send the original game disc
2. If you send disc only, Goozex provides you with a print mailer that you can use
3. Goozex does not pay for shipping (no matter what or how you send) -- The reason for this is to keep our costs low and offer trades for just $1
We expect to have on Sept. 15th the new Goozex Mailer Matrix ready. Basically as I mentioned before it will allow you as the buyer to choose how you want to receive a game and as a seller how to send a game. Effectively if you want to get a full package Goozex will be able to match you with someone who is willing to spend extra to send you one. If you don't mind disc only, then you can request that. In the end, you can choose how to receive and send. I would say that half of Goozex senders have shipped complete packages in bubble mailers and the other half in Goozex printer mailers
Let me know if you have other questions.

So I thought I'd share a quick blurb from Games Radar that was put out today.
"The internet has run out of names
There are already a few game trading sites on the internet. We like the looks of Goozex, though. Despite the incoherent name, the idea is great: you put up lists of games you don't want anymore and let other people pick 'em out. When someone grabs your game, you score Goozex points, which you can then cash in on a later trade. Each trade also costs a buck, which isn't too bad, we figure. We don't know how well it works just yet, but it makes tons of sense. Check it out. Ignore the cartoon dinosaur."

Sorry for the confusion....
No you will not be charged $1 for sending a game. Only the receiver of the game is charged $1 plus the points needed to get the game.
So an example:
Halo 2 is currently 400 points
1. If you send the game you get 400 points and you pay shipping (whichever way you decide)
2. If you receive Halo 2 you pay $1 and use 400 points

Hi RaPtOrsIII,
Our points are derived from different weights given to market prices, supply and demand, and user ratings, among other things...
What might be happening with the madden nfl 07 hall of fame game is different supply and demand numbers for each version....

Hi Visc,
No, not at this time. Those games don't come in a disc format and we wouldn't really be able to create mailers for them. Never say never, but I doubt we'll have non-disc or portable cartridge games available anytime soon.

You just added non-disc portable cartridge games to your site (GBA & DS games)..... I don't understand.
I can understand not doing N64 games because they are so bulky, but why not add a section for other disc based systems like Sega Saturn? Goozex would be an excellent place to trade them.

Hi ManChowder,
It would also be more content that we would have to lease from Muze and make work with our database. I think if the demand gets to be large enough it will definetly be something we can add to Goozex.

Hi Superfan,
One free trade at signup means the $1 trade fee is waived for your first trade that you receive.
After your first trade you'll get an additional bonus of 200 points and another 2 free trade credits put into your account. We want to introduce Goozex to you in the easiest way possible.
PC Games are something we're seriously working to add and we think we have a way around the online serial key code obstacle. If we can pass some tests on PC Games we will have something additional and exciting about Goozex to talk mention.

Hi Slidecage,
I just checked our database and the reason why "Cabela's Sports Pack -- Big Game Hunter 2005/ Rapala Pro Fishing 2 in 1" isn't showing up is because our content provider doesn't have it in their database. I will need to contact them and let them know. Sorry for the inconvenience and I'll try to get them to fix the problem soon.

A warning to everyone trading on goozex: Don't use the goozex envelopes!
I received Sonic Adventure 2 (DC) in a goozex mailer and the disc was broken. A dreamcast game I recently sent out in a goozex envelope was reported broken in 3 pieces from the recipient, even though it included the manual and insert and seemed well paded. So don't use goozex envelopes, even if the game is disc only.

This site has a lot of potential, but I think one thing you need to fix is the mailing options and choices of how you want to recieve the game (with manuals and case, etc). I also think the person who is recieving the game should know what rate of mail they are sending it (priority, etc).
I really like the site right now, but I don't think I will be using it until I know that I am going to be getting a complete game with the case and manuals. I see you are working on that and I hope you can get it done soon.

I doubt you will ever see people willing to send games Priority mail
1 buck to trade then 1 for the evnvlope then 4 to 5 bucks to ship (if they put on DC)
7 bucks per trade and you dont know the shape of the game.... Nah i would just stick to local traders and pay the 9 bucks to make sure i get a good working copy.
doing trades by mail with Trade fees + shipping fees 4 bucks tops would be the most i ever pay (and that is almost what we pay now) First class mail with DC
i dont know if i like this siite or another site more
this site nothing so far
other site 2 major games (worth 80) and was able to dump 9 games
I think added too late cause most of my games are like 20th in line
maybe in 6 months i might change my mind. though i will kept each of the stock on both sites

Well, I got a booleg Super Mario Advance in the mail today from another Goozex user, so you might want to watch out for bootleg Gameboy games, which are a lot harder to spot than disc game bootlegs. Here's a pic:

Thanks for catching that Rictor. If you haven't done so already, please leave negative feedback on that user so we have it recorded.
I think this would be a good time for me to state what our policy is on pirated games and those users who are accused of sending pirated games. I just finished an interview over the weekend with a major magazine that focused on piracy and our challenges with it. Well, I believe this is the first time someone has tried sending a pirated game on Goozex.
Our policy is as such: One, we are not in the business to punish our users and we give the benefit of the doubt to both sides of the trade. That said, however, we do not tolerate pirated games because among all the reasons not to do it, the most important is that it loses the trust in our members to trade with us. Two, we watch for repeated abuse on any type of negative feedback, even from the buyer side.
Bottom line: If you are accused of sending a pirated game twice, then you'll be kicked off of Goozex.
On more positive news: you can now search for products with the UPC code on the back of the game case. We are also meeting with our web developers to make sure that our new mailer options, Matrix Match, will be ready by the end of the week. And in a few weeks, we got something really nice coming.

I reported negative feedback and sent you an e-mail with the photo for verification. I just wanted to post in this thread so users from CAG receiving cart-only GBA games would be on the lookout. I have a Super Mario Advance 2 in the mail right now and hopefully it's not from the same user, or if it is, hopefully this one is an original. My guess is that GBA bootlegs are the only games you'll have a problem with as they are so common on Ebay and a lot of people buy them and don't even realize they're a bootleg, unlike a bootleg disc game, where it's very easy to spot a pirate.
You'll even see the occasional bootleg game for sale at national chains like EB/Gamestop.

Well, I got a booleg Super Mario Advance in the mail today from another Goozex user, so you might want to watch out for bootleg Gameboy games, which are a lot harder to spot than disc game bootlegs. Here's a pic:
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8379/supermarioadvanceyh7.th.jpg (http://img232.imageshack.us/my.php?image=supermarioadvanceyh7.jpg)
The game on the left is the bootleg from Goozex, the game on the right is an original copy from my collection.
Wow that sucks Rictor. They look very similar on the outside, and are very hard to spot, especially if you don't have anything to compare it to. Good thing you spotted it.

Well, they're easy to spot usually because the artwork is usually a little fuzzy, like it's been Photoshopped or something. Probably because the bootleggers don't have the same quality printers that Nintendo does. Also, if you compare the plastic case to another Nintendo game, you'll see some definite differences. The easy way to confirm a fake is to use a security tool and open up the game though.

where can you buy a security tool from to open your GBA case? I just got my copy of Super Mario Advance 4(gba) in the mail today and want to make sure it's not a bootleg.
Also are we allowed to post the name of the trader that sent the bootleg? That way anyone else who received GBA stuff from that person can be sure to double check their carts.

I have no idea what the name of the trader that sent it to me was...is there a way to look that up? And I got my security tool off Ebay. I bought a cleaning kit that came with a bottle of metal polish, a bottle of static free cleaner, a couple static-free cleaning cloths, and 3 security bits (fit Gameboy, GBA, N64, SNES, NES, Game Gear, Genesis games). It set me back around $20 shipped.
This is what you want right here:

The Gameboy tri screwdriver in the picture is what you use to open GBA carts. That said, you may also be able to open a GBA case with a really tiny phillips screwdriver.
I really couldn't be a collector and not own these security bits, as I buy a lot of used cart games and they all need cleaning. Some of them don't work without cleaning but I clean them all regardless, since I want to keep my systems clean and working. Ebay is also a good source of cheap 72 pin connectors to get your NES working like new again. I've bought several at around $6 shipped.

You can tell who sent you the game by looking at the email that Goozex sends when someone agrees to trade something to you. It says:
The game you have requested is in the mail!
Video game requested: "Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Brothers 3"
Mailed to you by <Name of trader> within: 1 days(s)

Heh, I delete those as soon as I get them. I did find the e-mail in my trash folder though:
"Video game requested: "Super Mario Advance"
Mailed to you by <Yerknutz> within: 1 days(s)"
And I have Super Mario Advance 2 coming from the same user:
"The game you have requested is in the mail!
Video game requested: "Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2"
Mailed to you by <Yerknutz> within: 3 days(s)"
But thankfully my Advance Wars 2 is coming from a different trader. I guess there's still a chance of getting a non-bootleg Super Mario Advance 2 from Yerknutz.
Here's a question for Goozex: I still want Super Mario Advance and Super Mario Advance 2. Do I go to the bottom of the queue for these? It doesn't seem fair. If you get a bootleg game you should go back to the top of the list for the same game.

<Yerknutz> is the guy who sent me my GBA game. I'll have to check it for sure now.
Goozex,
is it possible to report a bootleg game even after you sent good feedbck(assumung that this game turns out to be a bootleg)? I always thought you could indentify a bootleg by looking at.. then I saw the post with the picture of the bootleg/real cart.
Also if this turns out to be a bootleg is there anything that can be done about it or am I screwed?

Send me a PM if you decide to open your cartridge up. Please let me know either way if it is a fake or not because it will affect how we handle the sender. If it is a fake, we'll go into our database and credit back your points and trade credit. It may take a little time depending on how compicated it becomes for our Admin manager.
Hopefully you have a legit copy, and I hope you don't damage the cartridge as you open it.

I think I was the one that got your game. I was actually pretty suprised when I opened it and saw in pieces :-?

You should be able to tell a bootleg just by looking at it. You might not be able to tell from the picture, but in person bootleg game labels are fuzzy and off-color. They are applied by hand and usually off-center. I can pretty much always tell just by glancing at a label if it's a real label or not. Also, the plastic mold on the game will be slightly different than a real GBA cart, so if you can't open the game up, just put it next to another GBA cart and see if the plastic is the same color and the mold is the same.

So when the Matrix Match thingee goes into effect, I'll need to edit all my games to say if they're complete or not, right? Are you going to have an option for partial completeness, such as the game + manual but no case or the game+case but no manual? A few of my games are partially complete. I imagine quite a few more of my games will be requested once people realize they are complete copies. Hell, some of the games I have listed are brand new/sealed copies...doubles from various clearance sales or clearance games I've never gotten around to playing and probably never will. I just picked up around 50 more sealed games at Game Crazy today, mostly Gameboy Advance. I may add a few of those to my list as well after I play through them.
Something like 10% of the games listed on Goozex belong to me so I'm doing my part to help the site grow. ;)

So the matrix match will give both the sender and receiver the same three options to choose for each of their games. They are as follows:
Sender:
1. Disc Only
2. Disc + Manual
3. Complete Package (Disc + Munual + Case) --> Fastest way to get matched and send out games to earn points
Receiver:
1. Disc Only --> Fast way to get matched and get games
2. Disc + Manual
3. Complete Package
So if you send out a complete package you can be matched with all three receivers and if you request disc only you can be matched with all three senders. In other words, if you choose to receive disc only, you may get a full package if that type of sender was next in queue to ship.

Thanks Rictor for helping Goozex grow! I absolutely understand the leap of faith it takes for someone to sign up, post some games, trade and then wait to get matched. As we grow all these things will run better...

Does the sender get any additional points for sending out a complete copy once the new system is in place to compensate for the additional shipping charge & use of bubble mailer (unless you expect us to wrap the game along the case using a few sheets of paper taped together)?
If not, It would be to my advantage to ship disc only (assuming the game that I'm sending out is in demand and people will want it regardless of it being complete or not).
thanks
Just to set the record straight: So far, the stuff I have sent out 2 complete games using bubble mailers but the games I have requested are disc only sent via printing paper. I'm anal about the condition of my games and have rebrought at least 20% of my collection due to incompleteness and less than mint condition. I guess most of the stuff I get from Goozex will probably get listed back once I'm done with them.
Rictor

Extra points would be nice but from the way their script works I dunno if it would be possible. For high demand games, I imagine people will send disc-only to save money. For low demand games, they probably won't get requested unless they're complete. I know there are a bunch of PSX games listed on the site that aren't really worth the cost to me if they're disc-only, but I'd take them if they were complete. The main problem is that I'm out of room in my wantlist so I can't go adding a bunch of PSX games to my wantlist and wait for them to become available. I'd be willing to pay maybe 50-100 extra Goozex points for a complete game compared to a disc-only game if I had the option though.
Goozex - I think you'd find a lot more people willing to buy trade credits if you could figure out how to accept Paypal. I know several other trading sites accept Paypal, including the new game trading site put out by the guy that started Myspace. A lot of people just won't use a credit card online for any reason, let alone on a new site they've never heard of.
Plus, Paypal is just more convenient for a lot of us. We buy and sell games on here and usually have extra cash in our Paypal account but not necessarily our bank account. Another option for those who don't own credit cards (which is a surprisingly large percentage of gamers in my experience) would be to let people mail in a check or money order and manually add credits to their account.

Well, it's Friday morning and as promised I see that Goozex now let's you state whether a game is complete or not and request if you are want a complete game or are willing to accept disc-only. I just updated all the games on my list, so if you look at the available games on Goozex, you will see quite a few now that are complete (you may have to go back quite a few pages as I added a lot of my games quite a while ago).
Any other CAGs that have been sending out complete games should go update their list. I'll be looking closely at the available game list now to see what complete games spring up. I know I don't want to spend 400 points on a disc-only God of War...but I would spend 400 on a complete God of War, just to give an example.

Hi everyone,
So as you can see we've added the new mailing options. You can now choose how you want to ship and receive games. Let me try to answer the questions I read above.
1. wbc1228 -- No we do not give extra points to those who send a full package. We seriously considered doing something like that but we need to be sure that our accounting for the points and their value would be done in an appropriate way.
There is, however, value for you to send out a full package. If you agree to send out a full package you, on average, will ship faster than someone who only selects to ship disc only. That's because you are matched with people who requested any of the three options. If you choose ship disc only then you'll only be matched with people who agree to receive disc only.
On the flip side, people who choose to receive disc only will, on average, get games faster because they will be matched with all three types of senders. If you choose to receive full package only then you'll only be matched with those people who are willing to ship full package only.
2. Rictor -- Right now we don't have Paypal and we haven't seeked out an agreement with them. Our partnership is with Bank of America and they are the ones who collect the credit card information. We do not collect or store any credit card information. But, your point is taken about people not giving cc information to a startup.
Rictor
09-16-2006, 03:58 AM
You don't really need any sort of agreement with Paypal to use them for an online business. I've been accepting Paypal for years alongside our credit card processor at my online comic book shop. About 95% of our customers pay with Paypal and the other 5% either call in their credit cards or use the online form. It's fairly easy to integrate Paypal into most scripts.
Here's another site feature request. It would be nice to be able to sort the available games by whether they are disc-only or complete. I'd like to see what complete games are available, but the only way to do that right now it to browse through all 80 pages of available games.

what game were you matched with? I'm having the same problem with Marvel Super Heroes(ps1). I added it to my requests yesterday but was 5th in line, yet to my surprise it matched me. It sat that way for a couple days before putting me back in line. Later it matched me to the same game and now it's siiting there waiting to hear from the trader.
Of course since my points were tied up in that "trade" I got screwed out of another game that came into stock.
Usually the cause of this is that the trader hasn't bought any trade credits yet, so the match won't go through. Why the system allows this I don't know... I personally think that all games listed by a trader that has no trade credits should be pulled from the available list, and then automatically re-added when the trader purchases credits.
...or it could be someone whos listing stuff and refusing to confirm trades just to piss people off.

You were second in line for the game. It matched you and the person in front of you. Two possible things happened...the person in front of you bought a trade credit and got the game OR the person in front of you didn't buy a trade credit so the game defaulted to you BUT the person that added the game to the site decided for some reason that they didn't want to trade it.
I have been 5th in line for games and still received them because the 4 people in front of me didn't have any trade slots open or didn't have enough Goozex points or they didn't have enough trade credits. Any of those 3 possibilities will bump the game down to the next person.
I've received, I believe, around 10 games from Goozex so far with no problems other than one bootleg Super Mario Gameboy game, which I was refunded for.
Which reminds me, I got the second Mario Gameboy game from the same trader today and it was an original, so his story of buying the other one off Ebay and not knowing it was a bootleg was probably true.

Just wanted to let you all know that the team was away for the weekend and that's why we haven't been able to respond. Also, we are currently reconfiguring our admin so at this moment I can't go in and checkout what has happened with his trades. I did, however, see some of his games requested recently traded and that might have gone to Slidecage.
Rictor, everything you said is correct. On a side note, I recently went to the ComicCon convention in Baltimore and everytime I go I love seeing people go up to Lou Farigno (sp?) and walking away when he says its $20 for an autograph....

Yah, I can't believe he ever sells an autograph. My wife went up to him at Wizard World in 1999, the first one I dragged her to, and she's not an autograph collector but wanted a photo. I think he said he charges for photos too so she snapped one from a distance later. She did the same thing at Gencon here in Indianapolis (gaming convention) and got yelled at by security because the B-list celebs they have there charge $10 for a photo. Lou must do okay though, because he's at every single comic convention. There must be enough people willing to pay $20 for an autograph to pay for his booth fee and travel expenses. You'd think he's wise up and offer fans something for their $20 though. Maybe have a comic book produced that they can only get at the convention (it would cost him around $1 a copy to print) and then sell that for $20 and autography it for free. Most of the other Wizard World B-list celebs charge for autographs too. I remember Ray Park was $20-30. The comic book artists and writers don't charge for autographs, and the celebrity guests such as Kevin Smith don't charge for autographs but you will be in line for 4 hours or more.
For those interested in trying out Goozex, here's my experience so far:
So far from Goozex I've received:
Advance Wars 2 (cart only)
Banjo-kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (cart + manual)
Dance Dance Revolution Extreme (disc only)
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (disc only)
Final Fantasy Chronicles: Final Fantasy IV & Chrono Trigger (disc only)
Magic Pengel: The Quest For Color (disc only)
Sonic Advance And Sonic Pinball Party Combo Pack (cart only)
Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 (cart only)
Um Jammer Lammy (complete)
Zoo Cube GBA (cart + manual)
I'm currently waiting on:
Breath of Fire III
Walt Disney's The Jungle Book: Rhythm n' Groove
La Pucelle Tactics
And I still have 500 Goozex Points available.
I have sent out:
House of the Dead 2 (Dreamcast, disc-only)
Mobile Light Force 2 (complete)
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (complete)
Confidential Mission (disc-only)
Crusader: No Remorse (complete)
Gunstar Super Heroes (complete)
NBA Live 2004 (complete)
Outlaw Golf 2 (complete)
Shek: Treasure Hunt (complete)
Soviet Strike (complete)
Resident Evil Director's Cut (disc-only)
I'm pretty happy with the site so far.
I also requested Dance Dance Revolution, which never arrived (supposedly lost in the mail but I doubt it was sent out), which I was refunded for and Super Mario Advance 2 (bootleg), which I was refunded for and sent in to Goozex (they covered shipping).
Now that you can request complete games, I plan on requesting a lot less disc-only games, although I'm fine with getting cart-only GBA games like I have been.

Admin is back up!!
Slidecage,
Here is what happened with your trades. The guys before you didn't have enough points to get the games. That is why you skipped ahead of them because you had enough. The two different senders received an email to send to you and for some reason didn't respond (probably away for the weekend)...so the offer timed out. They then reposted the games and you again jumped to the front of the line b/c you had points and credits for the trade and they committed to send to you. So if they ship out today you'll get the games by in the next couple of days.
PM me if you have other problems with this or any other trades...
Thanks!
p.s. I'll reply to your PM as well...

I paid $20 for Ray Park and stood in line for 1 hour...
Another thing that stuck out to me at the convention is the lack of video games...I've been a comic book fan and gamer for many many years...and the two to me go hand-in-hand...

You'll see video games at the Comic-Con in San Diego as that is more of a general media convention these days. I believe they try to keep most comic book conventions focused on comic books since video games have their own shows. Wizard World is a trade show more than anything else, a chance for the comic book companies to preview what they're doing for the year. The convention floor just isn't big enough to branch out into other media and it's also hard for new people to get booths, as the prime spots are booked years in advance.

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share some exciting news about Goozex. As a surprise we're going to be allowing free trades from right now to at least October 20th! That means you only need points to trade on Goozex and not the $1 trade credits.
This is only for a short while, so for those of you who have purchased trade credits, you will have them when we go back to needing them.
Why are we doing this? As I have said before, we know there is a big leap of faith taken to trading on a new site and we really want you to give Goozex a try when you're thinking of getting games. Our growth has been amazing and we want to take it to the next level and we think this will help push it.
So, to get games all you need are the points...
Happy trading!

I recently got an email from them saying that all trades are free for the next month. You can also see if you are getting the case and manual prior to requesting a game which was the biggest draw back.
I traded SUper Black Bass for Nintendo DS for 300 points.
with that 300 pts I got:
Ridge Racer DS
Spiderman 2
Zoo Keeper
All of which are complete.
It may be time to check it back out again:

man, those points things are ridicolous, if im reading it right, i could trade in battlefield 2 for 360 for 850, get NBA 2K7/NBA Live 07 when it comes in and still have 50 points left over??

Heh, I'm the one that requested your Super Black Bass. I like to buy/play pretty much every single DS release, but I'm too cheap to pay $15 for that one in-store, so I grabbed it off Goozex. It will probably go right back to Goozex or another trading site after I play it, as I doubt if it's a game I'll need in my permanent DS collection.

The catch is, some one actually has to want your copy of Battlefield 2 for 850 points and some one has to actually offer NBA 2K7 for trade. I'm sure both of those things are feasible though.

Ah, Rictor, I see you've requested my Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter and Golden Sun. I can tell you that Marvel is in pretty good condition with some minor light scratches on the bottom and includes case and manual. Golden Sun will be cart only but it will be in a DS case with a Golden Sun sleeve, good quality too. I can send them both out on Monday, First Class.

Sounds good. Yah, I was first in line for both of those...requested them a while back. Nice to see a couple of my wishlist games show up on the site. Marvel Vs. Yer too picky, man. I've requested 17 games from Goozex already. I've received 12 and I've got 5 on the way right now.
As for the point changes, I imagine new games will get cheaper with time as their value goes down and some games have gone up in points due to value as they should. I know Goozex said the point values are effected by things like user ratings and how many people have added a game to their wishlist.
Personally, I'd like to see the point values on a lot of PSX RPGs and other rare games raised so people will list them. Marvel vs. Street Fighter was 100 points when the site first started, I think. I doubt if anyone would have listed it for that price, but then they raised it to 500 and some one listed it. I have a few rare PSX games I'd list but they're all on the site for 100 points. I figure some of the prices will be adjusted eventually when they realise 100 people have the game on their wantlist and 0 people have listed it for trade.

Well, they'd have to change their business model to being ad-supported like CAG...not sure if they'd want to do that or not. Not all sites can get enough traffic to pay the bills by ad clicks alone, considering you need about 1,000 unique visitors to make about 5 cents from ads.
They might be able to make profit by adding Amazon links to all the game listings, so if they're not available, people can buy them from Amazon and they'd get a commission. I think Switchdiscs.com does that.

You're overvaluing your games.
1000 points (equivalent to $50) is too low for Suikoden 1?
There are many games that are undervalued on Goozex, but Suikoden 1 isn't one of them.
I would say the following game are way under valued (I'm sure there are more but I don't have time to list everything)
- Valkyrie Profile (200 points, $10)
- Tactics Ogre Battle Series (150 points, $7.50)
- Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (200 points, $20)
- Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
- Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness (400 points, $20)
- Ogre Battle (200 points, $10)
- Ikaruga (100 points, $5)
- Final Fantasy VII (200 points, $10)
No one in the right mind is going to trade those games in unless he (she) is totally clueless about the values. Not sure how Goozex calculate these values (yea.. yea.. I know this is suppose to be super secret company formula that isn't suppose to be disclose to the general public), but hopefully these weird outliers will be fixed to encourage more trading in the future
footnote:
Goozex charges $5.00 per 100 points. That is how I got the dollar values above. I wished Goozex would use a point system more like barterbee (1 point is suppose to equal $1) instead masking the values.

I wish they would lower the value of Tales of Phantasia for GBA. I got it at CC for $8.96 and didn't like it. I have 100 points left over from the initial promotional code, so I don't need a lot more points for something decent. I've had Tales up there for over a month and no one has requested it since it's listed for 450 points.

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd try to answer some of posts I've seen.
Points: Our range of points goes from 100 to 1,000. Our formula for calculating points relies heavily on current MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) that we get from our content provider. When you see 50 point swings its usually due to our other variable, supply & demand. We also take into account a game's release date. So wbc1228 has a good point that we need to fix our outliers for the more rare games. I will do that for the games you listed. I think that outside of the outliers we offer fair and competitive point prices for your game trades. But more importantly, I think, is that unlike gamestop and other trade-ins, the points are the same for both the sender & receiver.
I'd like to ask that if you find rare games that need to have their points raised, please email us.
Free Trades: Rictor is right, as usual, about having to change our business model if we kept the trades free. We'd have to go ad based and that requires a completely different approach to the website. We are however coming up with some great new upgrades that point us to that direction. $1 trade fees beat our competition and still is one of the cheapest ways to get the games you want to play.
Matrix Match: I've had a couple of users ask why they were skipped when they put up a game to trade. Please remember that if you post a game to trade in disc only, you will only be matched with someone who requests disc only. The fastest way to send games to get points is to send complete package. The fastest way to get games is to request disc only. You can check out our FAQ for a simple graphic on the matching process.
I think I covered all the questions asked over the weekend. Let me know if I didn't.

I joined the site about a week ago and sent out 6 games. Today I received my first game in working order, so things seem to be working well so far. My only complaint is that it's kind of difficult to figure out which games you will be getting if there are multiple requested games available. I don't know if there's any way to make the process a little more transparent, but right now it's basically just a matter of putting a bunch of things you think you might want on your request list and then being surprised when you get an email saying that one has been sent to you.
Let me just say that adding the "matrix match" thing that allows you to specify a condition was a very good idea, because I would never want to trade a disc-only game (Game Boy games are about the only ones that I don't mind just getting the game without the box or instructions, since the boxes are so crappy and fragile to begin with). I do think that having no option for "just game and box" is a little strange though. I don't know if I'm typical, but I'm much more likely to have games with the disc and the box but no instructions (maybe I lost them, or more likely I bought the game used and it didn't have instructions). And while I probably wouldn't mind hugely getting a game in trade without the instructions, a game without the box is just not appealing to me, so I'm stuck requesting totally complete games.

By the way, I have a question about the idea of "open trades." As a new member, you are limited in the number of open trades you can have at once -- apparently a way to prevent people from listing a bunch of games that they don't have, immediately getting points for them, and then spending those points on a bunch of games (essentially getting games for nothing). At least this way they are limited in the number of games they can get at a time. On the Goozex site it says:
Remember that an open trade means your Request (a game that is in your Request list) has been selected for a transaction, and is either waiting for approval by the seller, or has already been shipped.
Apparently a trade is considered "closed" when you provide feedback, but is there a way to see how many open trade slots you have? Basically, I'd like to know when I am going to be eligible for more trades, since I have plenty of points.
Also, if a trade is no longer "open" when you provide feedback, it doesn't seem to entirely prevent unscrupulous people from getting games for free. In fact, I could see someone saying that they received games before they actually did, just to open up the trade slots. Or a legitimate user might do the same if they saw that a game they really wanted just became available, but they didn't have any open slots.
Am I understanding how things work?

Ok, this is the second time this has happend. I put a game request out for a game that I "kind of" wanted and I thought it would give me a confirmation if I wanted it. The game is Age of Empires DS by the way. I look at my account today and it says it's waiting for confirmation from the seller. There should be some way for the buyer to confirm it before it goes through.

It's pretty simple, when you add a game to your wantlist, it means you want it. You're put in line to buy it as soon as it becomes available. If you don't want a game, why add it to your list? There are no confirmations...you confirm you want the game when you add it to your wantlist.

Apparently a trade is considered "closed" when you provide feedback, but is there a way to see how many open trade slots you have? Basically, I'd like to know when I am going to be eligible for more trades, since I have plenty of points.
Go to your "My Account" page and you will see your feedback. The higher your feedback rating, the more trade slots you have.
Level Feedback score range Max number of open trades(*)
1 0 - 9 2 open trades at a time
2 10 - 49 3 open trades at a time
3 50 - 149 5 open trades at a time
4 150 - 299 10 open trades at a time
5 300 - 449 15 open trades at a time
6 450 - 500 20 open trades at a time
My feedback level right now is 140, which means I can have 5 trades open at once. You get 10 points for each positibe transaction. I have a few games in the mail right now, as soon as one of them is confirmed, I'll be at 150 and can have 10 open trades at once.
As for confirming you have received a game when you haven't, that wouldn't be a good idea. If you confirm you've received a game, then you don't end up receiving it, you've given up your right to claim that the game wasn't delivered. You won't be able to get a refund for that game if it doesn't arrive. I always wait until a game arrives and I test it before confirming I've received.

Yes, I saw that, but that's the maximum number of open trades. I meant how do you tell how many open trades you have at a certain time. I guess you just have to keep track of the number yourself?

No, click on your wantlist and you'll see how many games are in the mail to you at the top of your list. As a new trader you have 2 open trades at a time. The math is pretty easy. :)
If I click on my wantlist I see that I have 5 games in the mail. I know I can only receive 5 games at a time, so I know I have 0 open trade slots.

Well, that means that you do have to keep track yourself. I'm not saying it's terribly difficult or anything, but since the number changes depending on your feedback rating, I would think it might be a good idea to display the number of trade slots somewhere.

Does anyone know if you can ship something First Class in a "USPS Priority Mail Box"? It says that it is only to be used for Priority Mail, but I don't see why I couldn't cross the stuff out with a perm. marker and slap a shipping label on there. Do you think they would care?

They're not supposed to let you do that, since the mailers are provided for free on the condition that you use priority mail. I've seen people who tried it be turned down.

Goozex, here are some games on the site that are priced too low:
Final Fantasy VII - Should be around 800-1,000 to get people to actually trade it since it sells for $50+ on Ebay.
Gitaroo-man - Sells for around $40, should be around 800 points
Ikaruga - Sells for around $40, should be around 800 points
Lunar 2: Eternal Champion - Raise to 800
Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Playstation) - Raise to 600
Mega Man Legends 2 - Raise to 400
Ogre Battle - Raise to 800
Parappa the Rapper - Raise to 400
Resident Evil 2 (Gamecube) - Raise to 700
Resident Evil 3 (Gamecube) - Raise to 400
Shadow Hearts - Raise to 600
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne - Raise to 1200
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga - Raise to 1000
Silent Hill - Raise to 800
Silent Hill 2 - Raise to 300
Silent Hill 3 - Raise to 400
Star Ocean: Second Story - Raise to 700
Tactics Ogre Battle Series - Raise to 1200
Vagrant Story - Raise to 400
Valkyrie Profile - This is probably the worst priced game on the site. This game is 300 points...should be closer to 2200.
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - Raise to 600
Those are just my suggested prices based on Ebay and retail values at EB/GS. There are other games no one will ever list on the site because the point values are to low, mostly PS1 RPGs, but those were the big ones I noticed.

They'll make you pay for Priority if you use a Priority mailer. If you put it in the mailbox like that, they'll send it back to you and you won't receive a refund on the postage you used. The post office is very strict on that.

I agree with you that many of those prices need to be changed, but I think those point values are too high. I know this issue is very subjective, so it is just my opinion. The main problem is that there is no way to know what condition these discs are in. Goozex only requires that these discs be "playable". In addition, Goozex doesn't require these games to be complete either. Also, I think Goozex stated that the max point value for a game is 1000.

Yeah, it's a good game, one of the first GBA games I bought. I have Dual Strike now so I don't really want the first one and I haven't even scratched the surface of Dual Strike, I've only played it around 2 or 3 hours. :(

Yeah, I kind of think that there are going to be some games that just aren't appropriate for a site like this. If you're going to pay the equivalent of $40-$50 for a game because of its collectors value or rarity, you want to know its condition ahead of time.
And while it's true that collectors won't put their rare games up for those points values, raising the values makes it unlikely to get a bargain from someone who doesn't know the true value of their games (and perhaps the uncertainly about condition is balanced out by the possibility of getting a bargain). Anyway, just thinking out loud here.

Knowing that a goozex rep is here is kinda weird, but assuring. At first I was just considering getting a free game out of this and never using the site again, but I think I'll stick around.
Edit:
Found a typo. "Time Crisis 2" doesn't have a subtitle. On your site it says "Project Titan" but that was a PS1 game.

So far I've had a good track run with it. Sent out 6 games and recieved 2 (expecting a third any day now). Both of the games I've recieved were complete, which I'm assuming means it came from a CAG somewhere. But it's a good place so far, I can't complain.
Just thought I'd throw in my two cents for the feedback

Well, playable and complete games, regardless if they have a few scratches or not, are going to sell for those prices on Ebay if 100 points = $5. If you can get 800 points for a crappy Xbox 360 game that you got for $17.95 used at EB/GS, then there are plenty of ways to build up lots of points to make the prices seem more reasonable.
I mean no one on this site is going to trade you a rare, complete, vintage RPG for Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo, or any of the other Xbox 360 games that retail for $20 new now, but thanks to Goozex you can trade them off fairly easily for 500 points each and put that towards a more collectible game.

Whoa! I missed a lot over the past 24 hours...
I'll tackle this user by user.
icruise: Having three options in the matrix match keeps things simple. We would need to create different matrix matches for the consoles and ports to include cart and box only.
Another member has given us feedback that we should kind of give a balance sheet of your feedback score and points. I like the idea and we'll need to add it to the list of things to do. It would simply give a more clear picture of what your account is doing.
Technique: Rictor is absolutely right about shipping priority. The USPS is extremely strict about this. I had something come from eBay not to long ago that the seller shipped priority. I had to pick up the tab at the post office. I was lucky that the seller quickly understood her mistake and she refunded me the extra $15.
Rictor: Thanks for your help on pointing out rare games.
M3wThr33: Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I'm a Goozex rep and the head of marketing. My name's Mark btw. There are only 3 people working at Goozex. Myself and the two founders. The last thing we have is a sales force of people out there...and we are a real startup.
This is also a great time to again sincerely thank CheapyD for giving us the opportunity speak with everyone. CheapyD runs a great site and has some of the most loyal members I've ever seen online.
Blackout542: Goozex simply works as such: You send games to get points and use those points to get the games you want. That means if you ship a game you'll get points. When you receive a game you'll spend points. You can't get games if you don't have points.
I think I got em' all.

I like the site and I just received my first game in mail today (Theme Park Roller Coaster for PS2). The game was disc only and was shipped in one of the printed out Goozex mailers. When I opened the paper mailer the disc was literally cracked in half. The convenience of the print-out Goozex mailers is nice, but I don't think that two layers of paper provides nearly enough protection for a loose game disc. A bubble mailer is nearly 100% reliable and would cost less than a dollar more to ship. Anyways, I filed the feedback this afternoon. When are the points refunded to my account? Thanks!

Hi drfrielgood:
I'm sorry that happened. I just saw that your account was credited back the 100 points. You're right about the convenience of the goozex mailer, but it's not the most secure for discs. Bubble mailers are a better option, but as you said cost more for the sender. I haven't pulled the numbers but from what I've seen I'd guess a very small percentage of trades that use our mailer are reported broken. I'm not just saying that either. If 1 out of 10 trades was reported broken we'd have to drastically change our business model otherwise all our members would leave.
Again, sorry for the broken disc.

So far I am not having any luck with Goozex. I am not sure really what is wrong. I had two games supposedly shipped to me and neither ever showed up. Maybe the people used those paper mailers and they became damaged or lost because of them.
I was trying to give enough time for the first one to get to me so the feedback option became officialy closed. I guess you snooze you lose your points. No biggie. The second also never showed up. I got the points back for the second and tried another game which is supposed to have shipped. We will see.
I think the frustrating thing is that you can not see the user feedback you are getting games shipped from. It would be nice to have a visible feedback system. If multiple people had a game available you could select the one with good or higher feedback.
I have never had a problem with items being lost in the mail before. My address is correct in the system. So far my experiences are not very good. Not able to get a game even shipped from Gamershare and games that supposedly ship not arriving from Goozex.

The one I shipped was in a padded envelope with a small amount of bubble wrap to fill it out. This was for a PS1 game. For PS2,GC,DS and XBox games I would bet a padded envelope would be fine due to the hard case.

Here is what they say on their FAQ:
If you don't receive a game, please wait two weeks before submitting feedback, to allow the postal service sufficient time for delivery.
So 7 days isn't long enough, although I can understand that you might be getting anxious about it. The fact of the matter is that although you can choose whether you will ship the game in "1 day" or "3 days" there is nothing really requiring that you do that, and no need to confirm that you actually did ship it, so I could see people putting it off. Plus, the post office can sometimes be a little slow.

While we're on the subject of missing games.
I reported a game (Persona 2) missing today after 11 days. The faq states that "Be sure to wait long enough (10-14 days) before providing feedback, to allow enough time for the postal service to deliver the game to your address." and I didn't want to lose my ability to provide feedback like humakti's case for waiting too long. Seems like my points were refunded BUT I think humakti's has a good point. What is the point of having a feedback system if we're not allow to see the other person's feedback? Also, why isn't there a way for us to contact the person we're trading with (ask about when the game was shipped etc)? In fact, the system in place right now doesn't even show me the name of the Goozex member that was suppose to sending me the game.

Goozex sends emails that say the username of the person who sent you the game. Feedback is only useful to Goozex, it lets you receive more games at one time (for good feedback), and if you send a couple bootlegs or have bad feedback you can get banned. I would like to communicate with the person I'm trading with though.

I know that, but my point is that even if you choose to ship it there's nothing forcing you to actually do so right away. So it's certainly possible for someone to take an extra couple of days to ship.

Goozex, I think the points for old sport games on the site need to be adjusted. Whatever source you're getting your prices from probably doesn't recognize that companies don't reduce the price of their sport games because they don't need to...stores clearance them out on their own before the next version comes out.
All sport games from 2006 or earlier shoot be 100 points. I can't really think of any exceptions except maybe 2006 Xbox 360 games, which might be worth 200-300 points since they're going for around $10-15 on Ebay these days since the 2007 games are out. But there's no way a 2004 baseketball, football, baseball, or hockey game is worth anything more than 100 points. Even at 100 points, it's doubtful anyone will be requesting them, but it's a little more likely. I see a glut of old sport games on the site right now that no one is going to request because they're 200-500 points. I mean, these are games that EB/Gamestop can't sell in their 3 games for $10 bins.

I have a question for Goozex. Let's say that you have two games on your request list. How does the system decide which one you will be matched with?

I think it just goes alphabetically and sends a request for the first one on your list. That's what it seemed to do for me back when I only had 1 trade slot open. Now I have 10 slots open (sent out 20+ games now) so it's not a problem.

some sports game do hold their vaule longer then others
madden should drop but games like WWE and nascar do hold their vaule
You'll notice I didn't mention wresting or NASCAR, because wrestling isn't a sport, it's bad acting, and NASCAR is guys driving around in a circle...I guess you could consider it a sport...but a lot of people put racing in its own genre...which is why when Eb/Gamestop excludes sport games from their trade-in deals, a lot of times they'll still take in wrestling and racing games.

But most other GBA games don't seem to have their points values dictated by MSRP (actually, this is true of most games on the site that aren't new releases). So I don't understand why Mario Tennis is an exception.

Because the site uses Amazon or some similar site's prices and Mario Tennis is a first-party Nintendo game, still in print, that never got an official price reduction and probably won't unless they put out a $20 Player's Choice version, then it will go down to 400 points. I guarantee you if they change the point value of Mario Tennis to something stupid like 100 points, no one will ever list a copy for trade on the site. I'm not even sure if I'd let my copy go for $30. I take it you're concerned about the point value because you're looking for a cheap copy? Considering that the 10 year old Mario Tennis game for N64 still goes for over $20 cart-only, I doubt this is a game that will ever be worth $5...although you might luck out and find it on clearance somewhere like Target.
Goozex, I have a question for you. Now that we can request complete games, what kind of feedback do we leave if we request a complete game, the other person agrees to send a complete game, but they don't send a complete game? I have this problem...I requested a complete X-Men Legends II for PSP for 400...only worth 400 points to me if it's complete. The other trader sent me a copy that had the game, a broken case, and no instructions. A game without the instructions isn't complete and I really don't want to leave positive feedback for the transaction. However, there's no feedback option for "didn't send complete game as promised."

On the flipside, I am never going to request it at 600 points, because I can get it for that NEW from Amazon, or for half that (including shipping) from Half.com. If you'll look at all of the other "Mario" games for GBA, most are in the 100-200 point range. The two most expensive are Mario Golf at 300 points and Dr. Mario/Puzzle League (which doesn't really fit in with the others) at 400 points. That's why I'm wondering why it is an exception.

You get the points as soon as you agree to ship the game.

I agree with you, the other Mario games are too cheap. I'd be willing to pay 400 points each for them as they are pretty much all getting Player's Choice $20 versions now. The only one I got from the site was a bootleg and I don't see a bunch of people rushing to give them away for 100 points, otherwise I would have received them by now.
Besides, 100 points doesn't really equal $5. Most of us know how to find good clearance games and trade them on Goozex for more than we paid. For example, Digital Devil Saga 2 was $15.99 at Game Crazy recently and worth 700 points at Goozex. That's only around $2.50 per 100 points. I've bought doubles of some higher point value games I've seen on clearance and thrown them up on Goozex to earn some cheap points. It's a win win situation...other users get a popular game, still sealed, and I get points for cheap. If I was actually paying $5 per 100 points, I wouldn't be requesting much.
Thanks to CAG, most of us never pay retail or anywhere near it for games.

I realize that most people (myself included) are not buying points but rather trading games that they either got cheaply or don't care about anymore. But the fact remains that you can buy points for money, so it's hard not to make that kind of comparison. In fact, I was just thinking the other day how good a deal many of the 100 point games are -- it might be worth it to purchase points to buy them if they were available and you were first in line. Of course, their low points value does make it somewhat unlikely that they would be traded.
In any case, you have to agree that Mario Tennis is probably not worth 6 Super Mario Advances. I tend to agree that the 100 point Mario games are too cheap, but on the other hand 600 points for any used GBA game (that may not even be complete) is way too much unless it is "rare."

I got my first broken disc only game the other day, it was Daytona USA for Dreamcast.
I knew it was in trouble when I picked up the Goozex envelope and it bent in my hand. I opened it to find the disc nearly broken in half. I guess I lucked out with my other disc only games, they all arrived in pretty good condition.
I sent the bad feedback for "Broken Disc" so I could get my points back. Sorry for the negative feedback if it was a CAG who sent that too me, I just wanted my points.

By the way, this point has already been touched on, but I think Goozex will have to come up with a way to inform people when points values have been changed.
If you increase the cost of a game, the people with that game on their request list should be notified somehow, or at least given a chance to give their approval when they are matched for the game or else they could get hit with a large "charge" for a game that they thought was going to be cheap.
And let's say that they agree with me and decide that 600 points is too much for Mario Tennis. If they change it to 200 or 300, I wouldn't want to be one of the people who had put their copies up, expecting to get 600 points. True, you get a chance to confirm it beforehand so this is less of a problem, but I could still see people confirming without fully reading the details.

Goozex,
I just signed up for your site today after another CAGer mentioned that it was a better trading community than SaySwap. However, I didn't know you were offering a coupon code for 200 free points after the first positive trade. Would it still be possible to add this coupon code to my account? My user name is the same: kinesis8
BTW, I did some comparing with other trading sites like gamershare, sayswap, etc and I can say that Goozex is hands down better than all of them. Which is why I've already agreed to send off Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (360).

It's not a big problem for the seller. I deleted all my PSP games that dropped to 100 points. I'm not buying a bubble mailer and paying $2 shipping to send out a complete PSP game for $5 shipped. As soon as they dropped a bunch of PSP games to 100 points, they were all requested...but I cancelled every trade and deleted those games from my list. I'll trade them somewhere I can get better value for them. By the same token, I have around 100 complete Gameboy Advance games, really good games that have decent Ebay values, and every single one of them is 100 points, since almost all GBA games are 100 points. I think this is the reason we are hardly seeing any GBA games show up for trade on the site, which is pretty disappointing. I hope some of the point values are raised because not only do I want to list my complete games, there are a lot of GBA games on my wishlist as well and I'd like to see people start to list them. Portable games hold their value a lot better than console games but that doesn't seem to be reflected on the site.

Hi Everyone,
Looks like I missed a lot again. My weekend has been kind of crazy, but we had a great promotional event at the University of Maryland on Friday night. So let me get to all the points raised here...
Point System: I want to stress that the point system is very important to us. We spent a lot of time building an algorathim that gives weights to current msrp, release date, and goozex supply & demand. Because there are thousands of titles we needed to build something that could give points that we were generally comfortable with. The first thing that a lot of people noticed were the mismatches with rare titles. Those points are really being dictated by our msrp feeds and they require a manual change. What I have done to help with collectible games is talked a lot with VGColletor.com and will spend a lot time matching our points to their prices. Regarding sports games, the reality seems to be that points don't matter so much as a what year they were released. I will say that selected sports do have a different points forumula to account for their rapid decline in value. I have seen only a few sports titles that are not 2007 be traded. Some examples include NCAA 2006, Winning Eleven 8, and a few other 2006 titles. The publishers have done a great job marketing those games so that people want a new copy each year even though the game engines and graphic don't really change.
Still we are looking to make sure we offer a fair point system.
icruise: Game matches go in alphabetical order when you have low feedback score. Just like Rictor said :)
Your comment about comparing our points to what you can find out there is really good. A lot of times the first question I get is how much are points worth. I think that's a natural thing people want to know and make comparisons with.
Are points fair in the eye of the beholder? I don't know.
Unless its a rare title and I manually changed the points, points don't change dramatically. Much weight is given to current msrp that serious price drop would need to be done to cause large point swings.
Rictor: Let me contact the sender to send you the manual. Oberman's winks are noted...
Blackout542: You get the points as soon as you click to send the game.
kinesis8: Thanks for trying us out. Thanks even more for helping to build one of the best library of games out there. Seriously, I have looked around and over 900 different titles just after 2 months of operation is pretty good I think. I can implement the code for you since you traded already.
slidecage: great point. i'll bring it up at our next meeting this week when we talk about site upgrades.
So that's it I think. Answering point questions is always tough b/c at the end we're offering just another price that people will compare to so many different places.

Got some exciting news!
Today we took the first step in a major site upgrade that will have community features and personal profile pages. The first step and probably the most important is that you can now send private messages on Goozex. How does it work. Go to any game that you have traded (completed or not) and you'll see the Goozex username. Click on that and you'll go to a very very basic profile page. From there you can send a private message. You can also view their feedback score and see what games they traded.
Rictor: If you want, you can send a PM to the guy who didn't send the manual for X-Men Legends II and ask him to send it...email me if that doesn't work.
Remember, this is the first step and we'll be adding a lot more features to it. But we wanted to go ahead and launch this sooner than later.
Thanks and happy trading!

Goozex, the private message system is nice. I just got a message from a user I requested a GBA Spyro game from. He told me that the game was going to come to me WITHOUT A LABEL and that he was letting me know so I wouldn't leave him negative feedback. I asked him to cancel the trade as I don't want a damaged game, even if it's just the label missing. I'm not an extremely picky collector, but I at least like my games to have labels and my discs not to be scratched to hell.
Maybe there should be a paragraph added to the FAQ about what type of game conditions are acceptable. Explain that a game is not a complete package if it has the case and the disc but no instructions, and add a line in there that if the game is too scratched up to trade into your local video game store, then it's too scratched up to trade at Goozex. Also, if a cartridge game (DS/GBA) is missing its label, then it shouldn't be acceptable for trade, as a used video game store like EB/Gamestop won't take something like that in trade.
On a side note, I've trade more games on Goozex in the last month or so than I have in almost a year on CAG. Anyone who hasn't tried this service yet should give it a chance. I hate the bargaining part of trading...the hours wasted trying to find some one thta wants one of my games for their games. It's so much nicer to just send out my games to people that request them, and then spend my points on games from completely different users. It's also nice not having to haggle over values.

Goozex,
Thanks! Just logged onto my account and noticed the changes. =)
By the way, one thing you may want to look into is that the points for some of the newer 360 games (Dead Rising & Saints Row for 850 each) actually are lower than the Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 360 game I traded. Don't get me wrong, I'm personally really happy for getting 950 points for a 7 month old game like GRAW, but I'm sure people would place more value on recently and newly released games.

Without looking at the details, my first thought is that GRAW has a much higher demand than the others, and that is what is driving up the point value. GRAW was available for a long time on Goozex, and people requested it without having enough points...
I wouldn't be surprised to see Dead Rising increase in points because it has traded a couple of times on the site...and demand may start to pick up a lot for it.

Goozex -- I found a couple of minor spelling errors on your site. One is that if you go to the page of a game that you've already requested, it'll say "Game already in you Request list." And if you give feedback to someone, the confirmation dialog says "once inserted, you cannot change you decision." So "you" instead of "your" in two places.

I actually brought this issue up earlier in this thread, if you want to go back and look. They said that they wanted to keep the matrix as simple as possible. That is a good idea, but I still kind of wonder about the choice they made for the 3 conditions. Wouldn't "Complete" "Disc and box" and "Disc only" be better choices for most people?
Personally I would prefer that there was no "disc only" category at all, because I don't believe that there are very many people who legitimately have disc-only games. What it really means is that a fair number of people are probably throwing away the boxes instead of sending them with the game, just to save on shipping costs. Still, at least the new system allows me to specify that I won't take games like that.

All of the games I've sent out have been disc only mainly because of shipping costs. I'm not looking to spend several dollars sending out the game...maybe I'm just a true CAG. I do save the boxes though, incase I ever run out of blank cases (I have 3) or if I ever decide to trade back the game through goozex and I only get the disc. That and the 8 games I've sent out so far using the goozex mailer have all arrived safely, no complaints so far.

I guess it's just personal preference then. Faster, easier, cheaper for me to just print out a goozex envelope, slap a stamp on it, and put it in the mailbox on my awy out to my car for work. And I'm assuming this is why Goozex introduced it this way, it lets us lazier people trade games too.

Which is fine, I guess. I just don't want to get games like that myself, so I'm glad they have a system in place that lets you specify at least that much. Of course, by not sending your games complete, you are missing out on trades with people like me.

icruise: Thanks for cathing the grammar mistakes.
We made the matrix match so that we could make happy both types of traders. Many months ago we asked students if they'd mind sending and receiving discs only and we got a great response. Since then, a lot of CAGers and others have demanded we offer full package...and so the matrix match was our compromise. I'd guess that its around a 50/50 split in the two types of traders.

I just received my copy of Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage(DC) in the mail today. I was expecting disc only, but the trader was cool enough to send the manual and insert!
I popped it into an extra DC cd case and I've got a complete copy!! If anyone from CAG sent that then THANK YOU!!

Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to say how much Jon, Val and myself (the Goozex team) sincerely appreciate the love you have been showing us on the Sayswap thread. I know each of us have put in a lot of time and hard work to listen to what you have to say and then acting on it. Each of you who have taken a leap of faith to send out games on our site and hope you get the games you want in return. There have been some bumps and bruises (like "high-tech" envelopes), but there have been a lot of great trades and site upgrades.
So why haven't we done an affiliate program? We simply can't afford it. We can't pay "x" amount for each referral when that number goes into the hundreds let alone thousands. Man, we love CheapyD and we wish we could afford him! None of us get paid and we work around the clock for free b/c we truly believe there is a better way to get games. You'd laugh if you saw our Ad-words budget. This does not, however, mean we'll not be around. In fact, we're banking on our service growing even faster than it has already. Much of our growth has been word-of-mouth, and that does reflect a better service.
We've got a lot of friends and supporters out there, including CheapyD and everyone here. Our goal is to keep everyone here happy and repay our appreciation when we can.
Be on the lookout for a great promotion starting very soon. Hint: start collecting the emails of your friends...
as always....Happy Trading!

I was 9th in line for Kingdom Hearts 2 and was requesting Full Package, so I was surprised to sign on today and see I had a match. Guess I was the only one with the points.
If this comes in good shape, I will be very happy. I was having trouble fitting KH2 into my spending plan, so by getting it for unloading some unwanted dust collectors would be awesome.

Yeah, when you first sign up for games it can be a little discouraging to see that you are way down on the list, but you have to remember that you have to have done a fair amount of trading to have more than a couple of open trade slots (and of course you need points as well) so it's not unusual to get a game that you are low on the list for.

What is even more shocking is that I managed to get Hack 1-4 in one day from one seller. Did I forgot to mention that I was placed 9-15 (ish or so) on all 4 games? Weird indeed considering the fact that I was matched but never confirmed for about 6 (or so) consecutive matches (Devil May Cry 1, Prince of Peria, New Super Mario, etc).

I lucked out and was able to grab Darkstalkers 3, I was second in line I believe. I'm still hoping I eventually get matched for Power Stone 2 (I'm like 6th in line) considering it still shows as available.
I would add the credit. I've missed out a couple times because I didn't have enough points for a game, but luckily it matched me again the same day after I added some points(and these were games that had more than 1 person in line).

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend. Read the weekend posts and have two comments.
1. You can jump around on the queue system a few ways. One is if the person in front of you doesn't have enough points (and later credits) to get a game and you do. Second, if the person in front of you has a low feedback score and you don't -- then you can jump ahead if they are requesting a lot games and are tied up at the moment. Third, is how you select to receive/send a game. On average a person who chooses to receive disc only will get matched faster. Same is true for a sender who chooses to send full package.
I'd say the lack of points and how they choose to send/receive a game has the most to do with people moving around on the queue.
2. small point changes (basically 50 pts) are usually due to supply and demand. If demand goes up and supply remains constant, then points go up. If supply goes up and demand remains constant, then points go down. We have an internal limit as to the quantity of games that affect these small point differences. Another thing to take into consideration is that a game may of passed a date that makes it "x" months old from when it was released. Generally, older games start getting lowered points.
Well that's it. It's going to be another busy week and I hope to have a new promo soon that gets people talking.

Also can I send the games in a regular package? I'm kind of worried about printing out a package to send.

You can use anything you want to send the games. The printed envelopes are just a convenience for people who are sending disc-only games.

Blackout:
This is an unsual case. One solution I can think of is to PM the users that you were supposed to have sent the games to and let them know you are shipping tomorrow. They will probably have to delete from their current requests the games you agreed to send. Plus don't post the games back up for trade b/c you might get matched with someone else. Send me a PM here on CAG if they don't agree to this.
As for mailing the games out, you can buy a couple of bubble mailers and spend $1.59 on shipping and send them the full package.

Dude, seriously, stop sending out games already until you request some. It's going to get to the point where you're the only one on the site that has any points, which will completely kill trades on the site. Whenever I get more than 2k points I start requesting random cheap 100 point games just to get the points back into circulation and keep the site active. Point hoarding is a sure way to kill a site like this.
icruise
10-10-2006, 02:13 PM
I agree that it's better to both send games out and request them, but it's not as if there is a limited pool of points to go around, so I'm not sure what the problem with "point hoarding" really is. What would really kill the site would be if lots of people started requesting games without sending any out (for example, by purchasing points directly from Goozex). Then you would have a situation where lots of people have points but there is nothing for them to spend them on.

I notice that Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt is listed for 350 points. However, this is actually a demo game that was included with the Nintendo DS, so I question that it is worth even 100 points, much less 350. I could easily see someone confusing it with the full game. Is there any real reason to even have an entry for a "game" like this?
