View Full Version : How long until stores start clearancing out Guitar Hero?

Just wondering, because part 2 seems to be hitting pretty soon and it ALSO comes with a long ass box with a guitar.

I know that everywhere I go, espically Best Buy, the original GH is taking up quite a bit of space... I can only imagine that they don't want to devote another section to a second version of the game when they can just as easily clearance out the first game and use that space.

I've waited for this price to drop since the game came out... I hope I don't have to wait much longer. I know the game is still pretty popular and I belive it sells decently, but I just have to imagine that retailers will be forced to drop the price (or hell, maybe the publisher itself) to make room for Guitar Hero 2.

I hope :(

Tagging for future reference. I want Guitar Hero badly as well, but I just can't pay $60.00, $70.00, for it. $50.00 would be nice.

I'd say 2 weeks from never.

I lucked out the other day when I went to Game Crazy and got a new copy for the price of a used one. All the girl did was take the new box and cut the tape and said oops. And proceeded to sell it to me.

It may not go down until the 2nd game is out, if it goes down at all.

Off topic, where is a good place to get an extra guitar at on the cheap?

I'd say it has to go down eventually... something has to give. The box takes up a ton of shelf space no matter where I've seen it. Now double and maybe triple that amount for another box of the same portions for Guitar Hero 2. Shelf space is just as valuable to retailers as anything else.

Right now about half of the bottom of an aisle is Guitar Hero extra guitar and then Guitar Hero, and they must have tons of copies of each. I can only imagine that eventually Guitar Hero won't be planogramed and it'll leave the system. I want the game but I know I won't get $70 out of it, so that's my problem :(

I'm hoping that someone is going to run an amazing Black Friday deal on it.

I hope a BF deal is in the works, as I need atleast another guitar or 2.

I think I got lucky at Game Crazy as my friend was messing around with the demo the store had hooked up and the girl was shooting the shit with him the entire time.

And then when we finally left an hour and some change later (yeah that long), shes like you guys should get that, and I said only if you've got a used copy. So she goes into the back and comes out with a brand new one and shes like watch this, and cuts the tape and says its used. Thus knocking off $25 and only costing me and my friend $16 out of pocket after my credit.

Now I just have to figure out who gets the game the most.

Maybe not a black friday promotion, since most stores would need to bring in extra stock for that, unless the pulled one of those BS desktop sales like "Guitar Hero $4.99 - minimum 4 per store".

It's gotta give soon - Christmas is coming, and retailers aren't going to want to give that much shelving to a older game.

Here Craven, guitar is only $19.99 used at GS:

Check your store locator.

Does anyone know how much the game retails for used?

I am married or I would've. My friend kept saying we should go back and hit on her, and the man in me said we should, then I looked at my left hand.:-#

My guess is 49.99, as thats what GH 2 solo is going to cost. So used is probably going to be like 39.99 or 45.99.

And no Guitars at my local EB or GS.

I would expect a slight price drop with 2 hitting. I don't think many stores will blow them out its popped back into the top 10 list this summer.

I don't think it will ever be dirt cheap like other games. DDR Extreme 1 seemed to vanish from stores (the bundle) without ever having a clearance and the stand alone version is still full price in most stores even with Extreme 2 almost a year old. Even now Supernova is coming out soon and the Extreme 2 and Ultramix 3 bundles are still sitting on shelves at full price.

I am hoping Sam's Club will clearance it out since it seems like they would be the type of store that would want to get rid of it faster than other stores since their video game area is very small.

If I ever see it for under $30, I'll probably get it. I can't justify spending more than that on it because I already have Guitar Freaks with the controller and 2 games

yea it could take a long time for some games to drop from full price. I mean CC has Time Crisis 3 at full price for like 2 years now. Instead of clearancing something that is selling well, they have price drop on something beatmania which was out for like several months.

I agree with YoshiFan1, the game will probably go the way of the DDR bundles.

Which is still being full price while newer versions are out, or just mysteriously disappearing from store shelves.

Also if there isn't a game-only option (outside of EB/Gamestop) for GH 1 around the time GH 2 comes out, I could see a lot of people still buying the first bundle.

I just got a used guitar and used copy of the game for $50 total ($20 guitar, $30 game) from my local EB yesterday. Not the best deal on earth, but $20 under what a new one cost. Problem is finding stores with them in stock at a B&M store. I was told that they're supposed to send them in to corporate when they get them as trades. I can't vouch for the truthfulness of that statement though.

Christmas will see a lot of sell-thru on GH1 & GH2. I doubt anything would be heavily discounted until they're trying to get rid of everything. Muhc like Donkey Konga 1 bundle sat with the DK2 bundle and DK:JB bundle for a good amount of time before they began to get clearanced.

I'm tired of people being so cheapass (yeah i know haha right). The game is well worth the $70 it costs. Go out and buy it now and enjoy it.

i bought it for 70 and i'm bored to tears with it. my wife still plays it now and again, but if that sequel doesn't hurry up, i might just have to trade it. i guess i'm too picky, 'cause i feel like the tracks on the second one are about as good as those on the first, which i thought were mostly lame. the mechanics behind the game are still quite fun in spite of this, though.

if i had it to do again, i'd not pay more than 50.

Well, you must not be trying to 5 star everything on expert then. Either that or you are really good and already have.

Well, that's fine if you think $70 is worth it, but in my opinion it's too much. $50.00 or so would be a much more reasonable price.

Fuck, $50.00 is a lot of money, but I'll make an exception for Guitar Hero since it comes with a controller.

Games cost way to fucking much. Besides Yakuza and maybe Okami, I don't buy console games for full price anymore. DS games are at the sweet spot for me ($25.00, $30.00.)

Nintendo gave away the bongos with their rhythm games (assuming you take the the games cost $50 a pop). Not sure why GH couldn't have done this. I guess if people are willing to pay $70 (or $80 for the sequel), why not?

Yeah, it sold well enough for them to charge that much. If it didn't sell all that great, we would have a $50.00 dollar Guitar Hero 2.

i've had it for about 8 months or so (bought it back at the beginning of the year). i can score 5 stars on less than a third of the songs on expert, but i'm just not willing to put in the effort to do better -- after a while it just feels kinda arbitrary, but that's probably because i'm a musician. what kills me is that some of the songs i can't even complete on expert, but i can easily and accurately play them on a real guitar!!!

$70 is WAY too much for this. I agree a price drop on this would be ultra nice. $40-50 is more reasonable for my cheap ass. :D

I paid $60 for it new at Target and it was worth it. Definitely got $60 of entertainment out of it. It's really popular at parties, my friends and family play the hell out of it. I can't wait until G.H. 2 comes out and I get a second guitar for battles. It kinda sucks watching other people play the game.

I think it will be clearanced out eventually. Wal-Mart, Circuit City, and Best Buy are probably your best bets. I've never seen this game at TRU. Several Wal-Mart stores have clearanced this game out already, but it's always YMMV. It really depends on when the manager at your local store feels like clearancing it out and at what price. I got my first Wal-Mart video game clearance deal today, actually, and it was better than Guitar Hero. I got around 24 sealed Xbox, PS2, and GC games for $3 each. Stuff like Psychonauts, Dark Cloud 2, SSX On Tour. I can only imagine what games sold before I got there as the bin was almost empty.

Anyway, Red Octane may make Guitar Hero 1 a Greatest Hits and sell it cheap without the guitar or something. Who knows. This bundle games sell great during the holidays so they might not clearance out till January. Donkey Konga 1 didn't clearance out anywhere until way after Donkey Konga Jungle Beat came out quite a while later (and it happened after Christmas). The same is true for DDR games...they rarely clearance them out before Christmas...I'd say watch for a clearance in Jan.

Oh, and you can always do the Cheapass thing and visit a few garage sales, but up a stack of PS2/Xbox/GC games for a couple bucks each, and take them to EB/Gamestop right now to rack up some trade credit while they have the 3/$10. I was too cheap to pay $50 for DDR Mario Mix new, but I traded in around $20 worth of garage sale crap for it instead. The easiest game to make a profit off of right now is probably Halo 2.

Actually it is possible that it may never clearence at some stores as some publishers actually allow games to be returned to them if they don't sell (the ones that can't be returned usually end up in bins); this ensures that retailers don't have to take a hit selling the game for less then they paid.

You know, they might be waiting until Guitar Hero 2 is out and sells well. Because they want people like me, who haven't bought the first game to go ahead and buy the second game since the price isn't all that much more.

And then once they drop the price on the first game, they know I'll buy that one as well.

I think the same thing when I'm playing it. I'm no guitar expert but a lot of the songs are much easier to play on the real thing. They really missed the boat by not including a practice mode - that would make the game infinitely more fun. Some of the songs are so hard in some parts and repetition is key in learning something like this but instead I just mess up the same part 2 minutes into a song because I can't practice that section independant of the rest of the song.

Does anyone know if GH2 will be sold without the guitar for like $40 or so? I don't need another controller...

Red Octane products have been clearanced out everywhere in the past. At the very least, I'm sure Circuit City will clearance these out sometime in the spring if they have any left.
