Rumor: Playstation-based cell phone?

Evidence is mounting that Sony is at least looking into the possibility of adding cell phone functionality to the PlayStation Portable, or adding PlayStation-branded content to other cell phones.

The first clue came last week when Sony Computer Entertainment corporate executive Izumi Kawanishi admitted in an interview with Japan's Nikkei BP (translated by IGN) that using the PSP as a cell phone was "a possibility" that he is personally interested in. Of course this idle chatter is far from anything official, but the idea seems like a natural progression for a system that will soon be able to do everything from playing movies to taking photos.

Then, early this week, CNet Asia noticed that Sony Ericsson Senior VP Rikko Sakaguchi mentioned at a conference that the company "is working on something" with regards to a PlayStation phone, but that "the surprise must be kept for the future." Again, nothing even close to official, but considering that classic Playstation games will soon be downloadable to the PSP, could cell phone emulation be in the cards as well?

Maybe I am among a select few but I really don't see the use for all of these garbage add-ons. Is anyone really excitied about the possibility of a PSP that can take pictures, have GPS capability, or be a phone? What is this the Gizmondo or the N-Gage? I just keep scratching my head every time I hear about this stuff. Am I alone?

I guess a GPS might be neat....if it's cheap enough.

This seems entirely useless to me. I mean, what good is something like that if you have to charge it every 3 hours?

I want all the extra adds. I hate using normal cell phones and if they got good service, I would use it.

The cam is what I really want so I can take pictures and maybe videos?

GPS is a great idea too.. because.. ummm it takes me forever to find a place.

First things first though, I need to get a bigger memory card. haha!

I don't see the point of the camera because who wants a low mega-pixel camera, poor quality camera when you can get a real dedicated cheap camera that's probably much better? And knowing sony, they will probably overprice all of these accesories.

I want the GPS if they come out with decent navigation software. Could make a cheap navigation system and make the PSP more useful.

You can just get both! PSP Cam and normal camera. 8-)

After some consideration, I think I am definitely interested in the GPS device, and minimally interested in the camera. I'll buy both when there is a clearance/sale on them. The GPS device is going to have some functionality with Metal Gear Portable Ops, as well as other games, so I am intrigued by it.

No interest for the moment. I got the system to play games and have no need for this extra stuff. The GPS sounds interesting but I'd like to know how much will it cost before considering it.

I'm interested in the gps, if it works well.
