although I'm sure it's not intentional I've seen stickers at best buy in the past that said they could help you install xbox games for you for 20 bucks. So would this 20 bucks entail opening the tray putting in the game for you or do they press the start button for you?

as for your plan wombat I'm sure they would do one of two things, try to sell you the harddrive or just say the service isn't available for the core model.

here's a funny fact I found out about 360 Face plates

microsoft (and it seems any third party) doesn't actually sell the white faceplate (you know the one that comes with your 360)...but if you call MS and let them you know broke it, they'll send you a replacement for free though.

In the podcast you mentioned how "L" and "R" are pronounced the same in the Japanese. While that is correct, you were mistaken when you said "Row, row" would be "lo, lo". The "R" sound remains the same, it is the "L" that changes. So "La" would be "Ra" so on and so forth, if I'm not mistaken.

Also did you guys drop N word on the show, or am I hearing things?

The deal with the PS3 isn't that they are broken. It's just there is a shortage of the diodes that go into the Blu Ray players because they are difficult to manufacture. The 360 ran into problems ramping up production with it's tech last year too.

There is widescreen support for most Wii games. And it will have component cables.

I think Wii online play will be just fine. I don't think most folks live online and I think Nintendo will appeal to those folks with a simple, easy to get into, play for 20 minutes free setup. You won't see Nintendo 1st party stuff either needing a horde of patches to make it work online.

First, Cheapy asked about a good upconverting DVD player. HKFlix (http://www.hkflix.com/hardware/) has a great stock of them, the best feature/price-wise is the Oppo Digital OPDV971H. It's $200, so it's a bit pricey, but you get a lot for your money. It also plays XviD.

Second, GamePlay HD (http://www.gameplayhd.com/) is an HD channel on the Dish Network, formerly part of Voom HD. As a matter of fact, Cheapy actually started a thread on it (http://www.cheapyd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89163).

Also, I'm really tired of people ragging on the sony behemoth and (though it isn't in this episode), please do refrain from voicing that kind of marketing driven crap on air if it is brought up. You guys are hilarious enough on your own, and are indeed the best gaming podcast, plus the inspiration for several others including my own I'm sure.

I actually really would like to find out more about how the cagcast is produced some time, perhaps wombat could go into detail if he is the primary recorder? Or do both of you record your ends of the conversation, etc?

I couldn't agree more with Wombat's assertion that the video game industry needs to consolidate releases to Tuesdays just like the rest of the other industries (music, movies, books, etc.) do. I've always argued that if they're going to be a huge money maker on the lines of Hollywood (which financially they are), that they need to act like it and get the product to shelves by a firm release date. You never go to a theater on a Friday to see the newest movie, only to have them tell you "Well, the release date is today, but we're not getting it until Sunday."

In all seriousness, I'm actually curious as to what exactly it is that you don't want them to talk about.

I'm not really terribly serious, I just meant that I hate hearing the kind of crap majornelson talks about (as an example: recent bullshit where his MS pals were ragging on HDMI...and then announcing how they wouldn't support it). Clearly this guy's blog and podcast are influential, however earlier he was (iirc) complaining about the the PS3 lower priced sku for not having HDMI.

It seems pretty stupid and two faced to complain about the lack of HDMI on the PS3's lower priced package, and then later when the news becomes publicly obvious that the 360 will lack HDMI support for whatever reason to deride supporting it at all. This guy is clearly a shill, intentionally or not.

I think a lot of online news sites cover this kind of story about the PS3 and hdmi, and the reporting is then influenced by Microsoft's (excellent) marketing tactics. Since these people aren't journalists, they're critics, even when they're just reporting on stories.

I hope I've explained that properly, let me know if it isn't clear :)

I just started listening to the CAGcasts at the end of last week. I've never really taken the time to sit down and listen to them because I haven't had anything that I could while listening to a CAGcast at the same time without bungling both (I'm not the best multitasker...). Last week at work, I started doing some work that was tedious and time consuming, but not very involving, so I was able to catch up on the CAGcasts while I worked. I've made it through six or seven so far, and this was the first one I heard as a "new release" (the others had been out already).

I'm impressed with how well-done the shows are. I especially like the News Blast and the part where CheapyD and Wombat discuss what they're playing. They do a good job playing off of each other. I can see why Wombat has such a following; he seems like a very funny, likeable guy (not that CheapyD isn't; he's really funny too).

That said, it seems like the Xbox 360 and its games are often the focus of the shows. I'm sure it's just that the summer is slow and that's what CheapyD and Wombat are playing now during the drought, but I'd like to see some more coverage of other systems, especially the Wii. Once the fall rolls around, I'm sure the coverage will be more even.

Now that I've finally tried the CAGcast, I'm hooked. I'll be listening every week now. Keep up the good work.

wombat, you have to admit, pgr3 uno > horse armor. the pgr3 uno theme was a rare non-xbla marketplace purchase for me. i think it's worth it if you're into uno but can't stand the terrible default music. the pgr3 theme works well but the car sounds are a little over done. overall, it's definitely the best deck available, although it probably looks a lot better in widescreen. i still use a standard definition 4:3 and you can hardly see the backgrounds because everything else blocks the view.

and regarding the job, whenever you're being yelled at for something that isn't your fault, keep a straight face as if you care but in your mind imagine the most ridiculous thing...something that always makes you laugh or just something completely random. i know it sounds like weird advice, but it kinda works.

I guess it was a good show, as per the usual, just nothing outstandingly great.

As for the Saints Row section, I'd have to hope that it improves on any of San Andreas' faults since it's had nearly 2 years to do it since the game came out. I wouldn't exactly compare the two games just yet since one has the advantage of a more powerful console, so I'd wait until GTAIV for the final word, which the Saints Row sequel will probably be out by then.

As for the 100k PS3 units in Japan, it sounds similar to the DS Lite launch in Japan, which Nintendo only shipped out 80k units all across Japan which I think Cheapy mentioned hasn't quite met the demand just yet. Sony still plans 2 million by the end of the year, so shipments should continue after the initial launch like it did for the 360 last year.

My girlfriend is addicted to Flavor of Love, and I have yet to see this show. But, I did shake the hand of Flavor Flav back in 92... and typing that just made me feel old.

Great show guys, the extra time didn't make the show feel longer at all. I think I could probably listen to a 2 hour CAGcast with ease. Hearing Cheapy shout "BIG ASS CHAYYNNS!" repeatedly was a great touch. Anyway, keep up the good work! You guys make it sound easy.

Great show guys! Good to see just the classic duo hosting the CAGcast this week. Too bad there wasn't a segment of "Wombat's Burrow" or a "Your Man in Japan," but the best part of the show was when you guys mentioned :psp: Loco Rocco and didn't even talk about it.:rofl: In addition, congrats to Wombat (that's quite a milestone:applause:), and happy (early) birthday to Cheapy as well. The only thing wrong about the show was that it was too short, or it looked like you guys didn't have enough time to say everything you wanted to say. Perhaps you guys can extend the cast to 30 minutes more? Or get some new colors for those sweaters in the CAGschwag store? Fall is just around the corner.;)

What show were you listening to? This one was an hour and 11 minutes long!

Good show guys. Two things I want to point out.

1 - You don't have to buy the PGR3 Uno Deck to play with it. You can still join a hosted game, XBLA will simply download the deck into RAM. I do recommend you get it though. It actually adds some cool features to UNO that weren't available before. (Eliminator mode is sweet.)

2 - @Wombat - I emplore you to give Saint's Row a try. I was never been a fan of the "Senseless and Gratuitous Violence" style of gameplay either until I jumped online and played SR with others. The online mode adds a tangible purpose to the violence (oxymoron?), all while maintaining the distiction that SR is just a game. Also, hearing people shout, "Gimme Dat Big Ass Chain $$$$a!" is really much funnier than it sounds.

hahaha I was thinking about that case as well. The Nick Minucci Case, happened recently in New York. I still find it funny that he profiled the victim (Glenn Moore) correctly, and I seriously wonder what would've happened if he didn't utter "it"...would it have been a hate crime (doubt it), an assault, or just taking a bite out of crime.

As long as Al Sharpton isn't a Cagcast Listener, CheapyD should be safe.

Like the little sheep that I am I did get Saint's Row, pretty fun singleplayer, like some of the stuff they implemented (GPS-ish Waypoint system, insurance fraud missions...god I love those). But my thing is...does Keith David breathe when he talks, it's like he's going a mile a minute. Still can't wait to finish the singleplayer, then I can get me some...BIG ASS CHAINS!

I too recommend the Oppo OPDV971H upconverting DVD player. I was looking for a good upscaling HDMI DVD player after I got my 60" Sony SXRD. I spent hours searching AVSforum, and saw the hundreds of posts that praised the Oppo. I was skeptical to buy a DVD from a company I've never heard of, but I took the chance, and don't regret it one bit.

The Oppo comes with a DVI/HDMI cable (or you can request a DVI/DVI cable). Oppo really supports the player with regular firmware upgrades that help correct minor issues with different displays. I bought the Oppo back in January, and looks great on the HDMI input. Great player for only 200 dollars.

I think it's a great player that will tide me over until HD-DVD players drop to the same price point.

Really liked the show this week. Laughed hard when you guys started talking about Loco Roco, digressed for about 10 minutes, and then abruptly tried to get back on topic.

Cheapy: Thanks for taking the neutral and sensible side in the Wii debate. Anyone who tries to argue that the Wii will sell less than the GameCube is either irrationally devoted to one of the other console manufacturers or has completely lost his grip on reality. Sounds like you may make an easy $300, more than enough for a Wii and a game or two.

Wombat: I'm really feeling for you and your job situation. I hope things even out or you find a better opportunity. Here's a tip from my mom, from when she waited tables in college: If you're ever asked to make coffee and the victim in question takes it black (which it doesn't sound like this person does, what with all of that cream sniffing, but still), add several drops of food coloring. They won't be able to detect it as they're drinking it, but later it will turn their pee an interesting color. Use green or blue for fun, red if you want to be really evil.

I really liked the show this week. I'm prbably one of the few CAGers to listed to the CAGcast before visiting the forums. Plus I've gotten my coworkers hooked too.

I kind of disagree on the saints row review. Despite its feature improvements, it just didn't have the magical feel that GTA games have. And the production definately wasn't Lazlow level quality. It's definately the best GTA game on 360 though.

Great show guys. Really kept my sanity on the bus to class. Anyways, FYI (don't know if anyone answered this yet), if you don't have xbox Live, you can actually just download a small program on your computer from this site (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#download)
and burn onto a cd-R and put into the 360 (I use a cd-rw). Burning onto a DVD-R may also work. Read on the site I gave for other questions as to how to install it.

Also, I have a question for Wombat. You said you can't play as your 1st Oblivion character now, but love things about your new one. Any specifics as to what attributes makes the game more fun? Archery perhaps?
