Here it is: http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP/Support/SystemUpdate

I'm not upgrading. I'm going to keep my firmware at 2.71 in hopes of a downgrader or something. I know as soon as I upgrade to 2.80 or 2.81 there will be a downgrader and I'll be pissed! :bomb:

I believe there is a 2.71 downgrader.

Since the released the Web browser, I don't bother upgrading until its required by a game. They never really add anything that's all that incredibly exciting anyway.

so...is it okay to use the NA patches with a Japanese PSP?

PSP's are not region coded, these patches affect all PSP's.

Yeah, I just saw the thread about it.

I don't know where I'm going to get a dump of the 1.50 firmware from though, unless a fellow CAG has a 1.50 firmware and would like to do that for me. ;) ;) :D

One intriguing item in the update is support for greater than 4GB Memory Sticks. This came up ina thread a few weeks back and I said then I believed it was purely a software issue. This confirms it.

Further, Sony believes support for greater capacities than 4GB is becoming important. This would suggest the prices are expected to become accessible and the legit content to place on them, i.e. PS1 games and movies, extensive.

Thank fucking god this shit is finally out. Those fuckers have been driving me crazy with the audio corruption that was introduced in 2.8. (See my rant thread about the audio bug from a couple of weeks ago.)

I can confirm that this update FIXES that audio corruption.

I can send you a dump of the 1.5, PM me if you want it.

As for 2.81, I wouldn't do it at all. The PSP homebrew scene is getting much better since Devhook 4x was released. Sony can try all they want, but they'll never succeed. Just look at the history of consoles and thier attempts to battle hackers. And honestly, without some of the homebrew out there, the PSP really sucks horribly at times.

Why should I bother Zog? Until they can do full speed and sound SNES everything elsee can be done on the DS so why should I care?
When these hackers crack the region coding then i'll be happy.

Well... DevHook allows you to play ISOs and CSOs from the memory stick quite easily and every game released to date works - that's a pretty good reason.

Uhhh, the PSP SNES emulator has been full-speed for a while now. At least in the ME version for 1.5 users.

In fact, the SNES emu is so fast now, I have to tweak the settings down on most games so it'll run slower. It's that speedy.

Really? Which emulator are you using? The last one I tried (SNEStyl version 3, I think) wasn't full speed - you had to use the "frameskip" option which made sidescrollers virtually unplayable. Zelda and a few others weren't too affected though so they were playable...

I prefer the Neogeo emu over the snes one. Either way all of them (Except N64) run great.

even the GBA emulator runs great.

Ugh, that one is soooo old. They are on v4.2 now. The newer versions run so much better better than the 3's. Even support 2-player WiFi play too.

If you've got 1.5, download this version with Media Engine. If you are using a higher firmware, you'll have to use the crappier version without the Media Engine:

I found these settings work best with it but you still may need to tweak them a little depending on what game you're running. If it's running too fast (which it will be), switch FPS limit 'off' and turn the FPS Limit to 'Auto':

In VIDEO:
PSP accel + accurate.soft
speed limit switch: no
Speed limit fps: 90 fps
Vsync=no

In SOUND:
output frequency: 33705mhz

In MISC:
hack debug menu
Fast Sprites: ON

Yeah, the NeoGeo CD emulator is a great emu. Haven't tried the cart version though.

My personal favorite is the SCUMM emulator. Point-and-click Lucasarts games like Sam & Max, Indiana Jones, and Monkey Island on the go are the best. Runs full speed too!

You also need around 100 bucks for flashcards and stuff for the DS, only to run snes games at HALF the speed.

the PSP homebrew is getting insane, from arcades, to PS1, and soon N64...

Thanks, Zog. But I was able to find the dump of the 1.5 files. I think I'm going to hold off on downgrading for now, I only have a 32 mb pro duo, so it's not like I can take full advantage of all the excellent homebrew/emulation just yet. I'm thinking of waiting until those 2 gb pro duos drop in price a little more and getting one of those.

Do they happen to have a NeoGeo Pocket Color emulator? I'd love to play some Cardfighters on the PSP, it just doesn't feel right playing those on the PC.

There is one, but I dont think its full speed. The NeoGeo and Neogeocd are full speed though, i dont know if card fighters came out neogeo though.

I'm glad I didn't upgrade to 2.80. :D I was going to, but then thought to myself "Watch someone crack the 2.71 firmware around the time I upgrade." Thank god I didn't.

I see the 2.81 fw did a lot to stop homebrew!

I think the 2.81 was mainly a fix for audio/video problems in 2.80. Obviously there were no security upgrades.
