I just bricked my Japanese PSP, need advice

Like the title says, I tried downgrading my 2.71 PSP and bricked it. What I'm wanting to know is, is it possible to be unbricked if I get a modchip, or am I going to have to call Sony Japan and send it to them and pay for repairs?

I'm running late for work too, so if anybody has the Sony Japan number handy that'd be awesome.
