Accidentally bought Jedi Academy for Mac instead of PC. Saw it specified on the receipt immediately at the register and was stonewalled from returning or exchanging it for a PC version. Shouldn't have been in a hurry to get to work. Guess I'll have to buy a Mac at 5% off if any more are around.

I was at the Brookfield WI store about 3 weeks ago.

They didn't have any GC games. It looked like they had cleared them out long ago to make room for Wii games.

They did have a ds and/or gba section.[sorry I can't remember what games they had]

No systems or handhelds on the floor, but if they do have them they are probably kepted in the back room.

The fairfax,va store had RE:DS for 20 bucks last month. Did you do an actual price check at the counter? (meaning had the cashier ring it up and apply the discount?) or did you just see the tag for 34.99??

Here are a couple of clearance deals from a non-closing CUSA. I'm guessing the prices will be the same at all CUSA's since there was no manual changing of the prices (they scanned for that amount).

College Hoops 2K6 (360) - $4.98
Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier (DS) - $19.98

I was particularly happy to find Mage Knight DS since it has been disappearing from all the local stores around me and is bound to get even harder to find.

I think the reason why stores have huge empty spots is because everything that could be moved out cheaply was shipped. Everything else that was left, they're still trying to make a profit on. I saw Quake 4 for the PC at $49.99 before 15% off. Everywhere else it's selling for $19.99. A previous poster was right. You won't find huge discounts unless the whole chain is going down.

My local CompUSA has a Nintendo case, which really looks like a cheap shelf with glass on it, marked for sale when they close. The only thing that separated it from a regular glass case was a Neon Nintendo sign on it. Thinking that it would be cool to have, I requested to be contacted about it.

So yesterday I recieve a call from some dude there. He said, I quote, "A lot of people have been asking about the case and with handling charges it will come to 1500 dollars." I seriously laughed out loud. Are they they retarded to think anyone will pay that much for a piece of crap shelf (that you could probably buy at Walmart for $100 and a lot sturdier) with a Nintendo Logo on it? If people are putting bids up, damn people are stupid...

Anyone else have any stories about trying to get game cases/stands?

Ain't that the truth.

Stopped by yesterday. It's now almost a month since the "clearance" started. All the discounts are exactly the same, except for PC games which went from 10% off to 15% off a week or so ago. Woo-de-fucking-hoo.

I suppose that people are still buying stuff or they'd up the discounts, but it seems dumb to me. The last couple of times, I haven't seen half the number of people in the store. They're all waiting for the drops that aren't here.

Even in death, the store is what it always was: a wasted trip.

Before the one on PCH in Long Beach, CA closed down, I managed to snag myself Elite Beat Agents for $16 and Rogue Galaxy for $24.

My local store was still at 15% on games, but it seems the crazy people are buying them. I think some games may have been shipped out as well.

The only thing that I saw at 40% was some cell phone accessories.

MOst of the 10% stuff went to 15%. Laptops were still at 5% I think.

LCD's went to 15%, and I'd guess some of them were sent out rather than reduced (I had been eyeing a 24" Gateway, they had a bunch and then suddenly none).

Apossum

still 15% off games at mine.

they have 360 cores for $254 and a PSP for $169. I'm tempted to find a cheap HDD and piece together a premium system, but it seems like premiums are getting close to the $300 point on ebay with the Elite coming out. and there's nothing I want to play on it right now.

Went yesterday. I was in on Monday. Signs now said 15 to 40% off everything.

Video games went from 10 to 15% off. Wow.

There was one DS Mage Knight left, so I picked it up. $17. I saw it the very first day of the clearance. By waiting a month I saved an extra....$1. CAG deal of the year, I'm telling you.

There are still some good games left, and a ton of 360 games. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm probably not going to get any of them. DS Hamsterz Life seems to have disappeared, along with a bunch of other DS games.

They had some 360 Premiums left, which wouldn't be a bad deal. But they're probably from the 360 launch.

I was at the Compusa in Parsippany, NJ and it is still a crappy sale.

5-40% off. Most of the stuff is still 15% off. PC's and Laptops are 5%. Zune accessories are 30% off though.
Video Game Guides are 40% off. They had the Gears of War Collectors Guide and Perfect Dark Zero. They also had Halo 2 and The Sims. Some other decent stuff. My brother got the Resistance Fall of Man Guide for $6.00? I think that was the price anyway.

I'm still wondering if the sales are in synch with each other to some extent. Most people across the country are reporting the same percentages off. If that's the case, maybe we could start tracking this sale a little better. Posting when percentages on certain products are lowered.

However based on what I have been seeing and reading here, it looks like this is CompUSA's big way of saying fuck YOU to the customers who never buy stuff at the store. My guess is because this is not a complete company wide shut down (meaning the company is going under), this is why we are getting such a shitty close out deal. Anything left over will head to the other stores.. but eventually when the company does go under...those remaining stores will have the best close out deals and we will get the shaft! :(

Well, that's terrible. Essentially they want us customers to clean out the crap that's too much of a bother to ship, and they don't even want to bother giving us a good discount. And everything's non-returnable. Exactly what benefit are we getting out of this?

I would say fuck them, but they've already done a good enough job of that themselves.

Exactly what I was thinking, these prices aren't much of a savings and with no returns or warranty it isn't such a great deal. Went by the Modesto. CA one the other day to see if prices have dropped, still the same as they were a month ago...

Stopped by a CompUSA near me that was closing and they still had tons of games, all at 20% off. Clearly not a good enough deal for even the average consumer to buy them. So does anyone know when these are going to increase to the 50% off point or so? The employees at the store indicated that they wouldn't increase to that level and the remaining merchandise would be shipped off to other CUSA stores, which I know is incorrect because they are no longer CUSA stores, but rather owned by a liquidator.

Just as an update, the Columbus, OH Easton store is at the 20% game discount now and they've consolidated all of their Xbox360 games into a stand alone display instead of spread out in aisles. Visually it looks like less games, but maybe that's just an optical trick in taking it from long spread out rows to a kiosk that piles six or seven deep.

Anyway, lots of games left and at 20% right now.

-Many of the good stuff are 20% off (video cards, network stuff, software, etc).
-Vista Software are 25% off.
-Computer components are 40% off (cases, case stuff, power supplies).
-Only thing that I have seen so far that is 50% off are strategy guides, cellphone accessories, and AC adapters.

I noticed a small print on the percent off signs that saids, "excludes mp3 players and computers". I guess those stuff are only 5% off.

Mine had TV's for 25% off, unfortunately, I don't have the cash to buy a TV right now. All the games for both PC and consoles were 20% off. I picked up 3 PSP games (Ratchet: Size Matters, Sid Meier's Pirates, and Capcom Puzzle Collection) for about $85.

Same for King of Prussia PA store today. Alot of stuff is still there, seems like people are waiting for another price drop.

Same for my compusa, 20-50 percent off. Still have moderately a lot of stuff left, still a lot of games. I don't think they'll drop it any more if it's taken them this long. Seems like they didn't sell out their inventory to a liquidator and they're just clearancing it out themselves and will probably just keep and ship all the leftover inventory to other stores.

I went by my local store today, games are still 20% off with the exception of PS3 games, which are now 25% off - hotish for those who have a PS3.
Controllers are now 25% off as well. (Keyboards and Mice still 20)

If they do ship inventory to other stores vs. really clearencing it out (as the local CompUSA's sign says) then that's actually funny as that that's how they got into this mess in the first place. Corporate has said that one of their core problems was not competitively pricing stuff and holding on to old inventory.

Numerous games at the local CompUSA that are on clearance are currently cheaper at other stores even with the % discount they are offering. I just wonder if they've learned anything about how to compete.

I liked having a local CompUSA, but knew this was going to happen. The funny thing here is that the FIRST time I ever saw them open any of their checkout registers was the first day of their out of business sale. Before then there was always a sign telling customers to check out at customer service.

Same for my compusa, 20-50 percent off. Still have moderately a lot of stuff left, still a lot of games. I don't think they'll drop it any more if it's taken them this long. So pissed

The one in the Brighton, MA area has shipped out EVERYTHING decent instead of selling it off. Video cards, motherboards, ALL CONSOLE GAMES, etc. etc..

The only things they aren't sending back are things that they can't pawn off on other stores.

I'm in Atlanta, GA - there are lots of CompUSA's going out of business sales. Games (including 360, Wii, PS3) are at least 20% off... and PS2/Xbox/Gamecube accessories/games are at least 30% off. Great for old XBL cards :)

Hm. CompUSA finally went down to 20% off video game merch? I wonder if that's YMMV? Then again unless they had some DS Lites in stock I probably couldn't care less. None of the CompUSAs down here ever have squat.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
04-16-2007, 09:24 PM
The one in Syracuse seemingly took forever to up their % off and by the time I got back up that way to check out the store again, they had closed. People who don't know squat about games will go in and think 1/5 of the price off is a great deal, whereas I'll wait till the final week of a stores closing sale to go and cherry pick whatever is left.

I'm still kicking myself in the ass over not grabbing multiples of Silent Hill 2 AND 3 for PS2 when the one store in NJ I happened upon was in their final week. I was out there for an auto auction and decided to hit that mall on the way home. <shakes head> I later on paid $30 for a USED copy of SH 3 from GS. :-X

I remember the ones in Seattle had that 20% off, but they jacked up the retail prices of the games, so it was still expensive, even after the discount. Might as well buy it from BB, CC or Target, as they're games are cheaper than CompUSA.

Some of those games will be around until the end. Checked the price of Arcade Unplugged (360), $39.99 when it can be had elsewhere after the price drop for $19.99.. At 50% off you are just breaking even... Checked DOA4 (360), Thought it was gonna be $29.99 - 20%, It rang up for $39.99.. But, there are deals to be had. I picked up the only Oblivion CE (360) from the Duluth, GA store earlier last week for $19.99 - 20%. Not much else I am interested in until the price goes below $20, so I'm waiting for the % to go higher.

Which stores have you hit so far dat playa? I've been to the Perimeter, Alpharetta, and Duluth stores. Only the Duluth store has their games out, the rest still have the plastic boxes with photocopied covers...

Went to the Mission Viejo store yesterday. Didn't go at all last week since I was out of town. Probably good that I didn't. No real change, except less stuff.

Video games are 20% off. PS3 games are 25%. So are XBOX games, but I think they mean XBOX 360 games.

Most of the good Wii games are gone. Sonic is still there, but $40 is meh to me. SSX Blur, which they had a ton of, is gone. Nothing good left for DS except EBA which is still no deal.

Went to the Brighton, MA one yesterday

PC software 30% off. Not terrible, but given everything is jacked up in price in the first place, not exactly a 'deal', either. All console games gone. All good motherboards gone. No processors left. The only decent deals are power supplies, cases, and CPU fans at this point. Even then, it's only decent.

I guess I'll check again next week. Still a really lame sale.

This sale stinks. I have been to 5 CompUSA's in NJ and I have not bought one thing. My brother picked up two guides but I haven't bought anything from this waste of a sale. They were trying to sell non operational PC's at the CompUSA in Parsippany, NJ for $250-$300! No HD's and no accessories or wires!!!

I wanted to buy a new Motorola V3X cell phone and the sign said $149.99 but when they rang it up it was $240.00! They told me that the sign is wrong but it said Motorola V3X on a Computer Printout with the lower price on it. I think they were just being jerks.

Fan and PC accessories is at 50% off. Cases and Power Supplies are at 40%. One more price drop, and I might end up buying myself a case, power supply, and cpu fan. Would be nice to have a decent motherboard to use with that, but the Brighton CompUSA shipped out all the good ones instead.

Software at 30% off. Nothing on the shelf really worth it until they go to 50% off.

They only have about 2 weeks of sale time remaining ( at least, most stores. ), so they really better start dropping the prices on what they want to sell. Of course, since they can just ship anything they don't want to sell off to other stores, they don't have to ever give us any good deals.

Sorry if someone else has posted this and i didn't see it.

Just got back from my local Compusa which is closing like so many others. Nothing stood out, but I didn't notice a big stack of game time cards for City of Villains/Heroes, SOE online games (eq2, eq, planetside, etc.), and Autoassault. Sorry, no WoW.

The 40 percent off applied to all the game cards, so I picked up a 60 day for CoV (I always go back every year for a month or two to check out the changes) for 17 bucks. However, the 30 day cards for the SOE games (can be applied to any of their games, it says) came to .98 cents each. The 90 day version was ringing in at 29.99 still (with the discount), which is odd. So i cleaned out the 30 day versions. 3 months of EQ2 when i want for 3 dollars. YMMV, but it's worth it to check it out if you play any of those games listed above.

P.S. Speaking of MMORPG's, WoW: Burning Crusades was 19.99 and they had a TON of copies.

Not true. Back in the early 90s CompUSA was the cheapest place for many things. They had good sales and often had new release games for $15ish off the retail price. I would always give CompUSA a few weeks when a new PC game came out because a lot of the time I would get it far cheaper there. They had a lot cheap to free after rebate stuff too. Eventually they just raised the prices on everything and all the deals went away. Maybe they got cocky when Computer City went out of business but they have been a waste for years now. So yeah CompUSA has been terrible for a long time, but once they were actually a store worth shopping at.

Yeah but CUSA has ALWAYS been at these prices, way higher than the competition then they close stores and downsize because they wonder why their marketshard is shrinking.

40% off of all Vista software...239 or something...40% off.

They had a few left...and quite a few decent PC and xbox games...

Like MS Flight Sim X SE for 40% off 69.99...or a few copies of NWN 2 for 40% of 49.99.

But the best deals were the Vista stuff, IMO.

I originally got two copies of Vista Ultimate Upgrade (they were out of ultimate full), but after realizing the guy there had been wrong about the ease of a clean install with the upgrade version, compounded with the fact that the only 4 things I was missing was three features I didn't need and the convenience of having the 64bit DVD in the case (only 10 bucks to order separately from them...I'll live...it was a great deal.

Well, I originally bought two copies of Ultimate upgrade, after talking to one of their moron techs and he misinformed me as to the ease of a clean install with the upgrade version...

So I hurried back and spoke briefly with the manager and they swapped them for the full Home premiums.

They even gave me back some cash since the Home Premiums were cheaper.

By the way, has anyone whos bought any of the vista fulls noticed two large round plastic sticker seals instead of one? I thought for a bit that it had been previously opened, but realized it was impossible after opening it myself and having some of the ceritificate of authenticity rip off and the sticker clearly not be easily restuck without being obvious...

But I'm still wondering why there were two round sticker seals (top part)...so maybe other people have seen it like that too?

I will be pissed if down the road when I'm installing onto a new computer I find that the key doesnt work...oh yes pissed indeed.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday - I was going to pick up a Sportster Replay since they were 50% off - marked at the counter "All Satellite Radio - 50% off", each box marked 50% off, with the original and discounted price... take it to the register - came up 30% off.
They said that the price at the register is correct, and that they couldn't discount it further - I walked.
Moral of the story, let the cashier scan in everything before you swipe your card - even though most states have consumer protection laws that require stores to honor the marked price, the liquidation company doesn't seem to care.

My experience was much like many others at the Columbus, OH Easton store. Xbox 360 games are 30% off and most of them are the clearance-type games such as PD0, Full Auto, that kind of thing. There were some good ones in there though.

Burning Crusade is 50% off, so $20 and there were tons of copies. The Vista packages are 40% off but they were out of Home Premium Upgrades, just Home Premium full installs (thus, more expensive). They did have Home Basic Upgrades.

well fellow cags..thanks to your "doesn't hurt to try..." I went back, saw a new sign saying Vista 50% off!. So I went to the CSR rep, a cute one at that, told her I bought it two days ago and didn't realize until last night that I was charged 30% instead of 40% off. So she talked to two managers, and after they did some math, one of which of them mistakenly ADDED 40% instead of taking off 40% told the CSR to refund the product to my card, then re-ring it in a new transaction. I over heard the girl talk to the other girl (a somewhat cute looking Hawaiian) saying that she hasn't done a return in awhile.. so basically in the confusion I got my 176 back, then I was charged the new price of 50% off instead of 40% off!!!

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n26/ITDEFX101/vista50percent.jpg

I bolted before they could pick up her mistake.. Thank god they didn't fight me on this.

agreed... Although Vista is screwed up atm, I am sure Service packs will fix it shortly. However I really can't afford to install it at this time because of the risk of BSOD if I do it now vs a clean install. Getting it for 50% the set MSRP is a good deal as MS rarely price drops there OS. I probably won't get around to installing vista til my next upgrade OR next year. BTW, Can Compusa really get away with Selling vista CHEAPER then what MS tells them to?

I totally agree, the price of XP is still expensive if you have to purchase it still. Getting Vista for 50% off is a huge deal. I decided to purchase it because I intend on my next laptop being a Mac so I want to install Vista on it and use via bootcamp. No way I'll be able to get Vista Home Professional this cheap next year when I get my laptop.

Also, I jumped on the last copies of these games at 40% off. I think if I hold off any longer the last copies will be bought. This is what I was able to buy.

360 Gears of War Collectors Edition $41.99
PS2 Street Fighter Alpha Anthology $17.99
PS2 Rogue Galaxy $23.99
Xbx Mortal Kombat Annihilation $11.99
Xbox Live 12 Month Subscription $29.99

Not sure if I'm going to keep all of these. I don't have a 360 yet so I might put Gears Collectors Edition up for trade.

Hit up the Columbus, OH Easton store again today. There are supposedly 11 days left for the store to be open and everything is now in the 40-60% off range. The 360 selection was mostly crap, though they had things like Tiger Woods for $20 and the Madden HOF edition, but nothing jumped out at me.

Instead, I picked up Vista Home Premium full version (now 50% off there) for $120, a Vista Home Premium upgrade for $80 and Burning Crusade for $20. They had some of all three left (not many premium upgrades) and you have to ask at the counter for the Vista stuff.

In the Houston area, it's 50-70% off at Sugarland and Willowbrook stores with one week left until the stores close, still 40-60% off at North Houston with 11 days left as of today. I went to all three today, since I'm new in town and thought I'd go for a ride hehe.

Sugarland and Willowbrook were pretty much cleaned out but plenty of copies of WoW expansion and Windows Vista in all flavors at 60% off. Some SOE 90-day games cards at 60% off were a good deal too. Willowbrook has a few Wii games left $49.99 minus 50% off, they had Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Splinter Cell, Avatar, and Ant Bully.

North Houston still had good video games left as of this afternoon--copies of Gears of War, Lost Planet, Crackdown, and Oblivion were behind the counter in the glass case mixed in with the same Wii titles I mentioned and dozens on PS3 games all at 40%.

Hope this helps :)

Is there a definitive last date, or does it depend on the store?

I was there last week...decent selection of game and gear, but the prices were jacked, so no savings...Splinter Cell DA 360 $69.99...GTA VCS PSP 49.99 and so on..

They were selling 1 GB crap brand USB sticks at $99! 25% Off that. These must have been 14.99 before they initiated the Out of Business Thing.

I'm sure there were some decent deals I missed.....I bought an opened item kit for my Treo at 9.99....Still only 50% off original opened item.

Might check back tomorrow.

BTW is there a difference between xbox live and a 360 live subscripiton? I never subscribed to xbox live before I got my 360...

Thanks

Loco Roco - $12
Platypus - $6 (2 copies)
Gunpey - $7.50
Bounty Hounds - $10.50

Can't really complain about those prices :) They had more stuff but mostly either junk or stuff I didn't want - tons of copies of Fusion Frenzy 2 and Pimp My Ride for 360. Blazing Angels 360 would have been $18 but even that I thought was too high. Also passed up Chili Con Carnage and Gun for PSP. Anyone else score anything?

You were, indeed, pretty lucky. I've been to at least three local stores and they've had absolute *junk* to speak of, in terms of what I've been searching for. In my case, it actually happens to be PSP stuff. Your prices are pretty good (I'd have *definitely* sprung for Platypus at $6), but I picked up Gunpey from BB's frontlane stuff with the $5 off coupon this past week for $5.

I'd be tempted to get LocoRoco, but I just *know* that that game is going to end up in frontlane stuff, as has Exit, which I also picked up for $5 last week.

But anyway, that was a pretty nice score for you, yes. Hardly typical of the CompUSAs around here, though.

That said, I found a few good deals:

Plantronics GameCom X30 headset for Xbox 360. $4 ($40 - 90%)

Was 40-60% off yesterday, according to the signs that they had people carrying on rt 202. Stuff was pretty picked over last thursday, so is probably even more so after another weekend. They had a few computers for 20% off, but they were well used display models. PC games were 50% off, console games were 40% off. The problem is, most titles are marked up a good 50% beforehand. So that 50% off still leaves you with a worst price than normal.

I couldn't believe they managed to clear out all the old AMD CPUs at my local CompUSA. They were selling them at prices before 2 of the recent price cuts, and they all sold out at about 40% off. What a total ripoff for any idiot dumb enough to buy those.

i stopped by the fairlakes, va one. They cleared out everything. Nothing was left except a few display cases, registers and so on. Looks like people bought whatever was left..either that or they packed up what they had left and shipped it to the MD stores. They had some nice glass display cases but they were sold off. The liquidator, was this old bearded guy with a southern accent wearing the same hat every day told me the minimum he could sell me stuff was 50 dollars or more + tax. WTF?!?!!?

This guy was a no deals liquidator , unlike the cool guy who ran the liquidation of Tower records who you just throw down a price and he sold it to you :) Oh well bye bye overpriced computer store! Watch within 2 years, the rest of the CompUSA's across the nation will shut down and the remaining stores will have BETTER close out sales then these :(

Went back to Comp USA saturday in Webster TX. They had a big sign outside that says Closing Clearance 9 days left. (as of 5-5-07)

Most everything was 40-60% off. They had a small selection of 360 games, but none of them were any real amazing bargains. They were all pretty much full MSRP -40%. Titles they had at the time for 360 were Madden 07, NCAA 07, NBA Live 07, Over the Hedge ($12), Just Cause, & a few other crap titles. They also had a small selection of PSP & PS3 titles. I remember seeing about 5 PS3 titles & they were down to about $35 a pop. Remember seeing Gundam for PS3. They also had some 3 month Xbox Live kits with Joust & mics.

The store was really pretty bare. They had several pc titles & prepaid cards mostly for online pc games. They had alot of blank media left, but they prices were full msrp -discount & were not really cheap. I do remember see alot of blank blue ray discs, but never checked the prices. I also remember seeing 1 big screen tv left for about $1300 that was fairly nice looking, but it was being used as a display. They had a couple Tivo units for around $70ish, 1 HD DVD player marked to around $200 which looked nice. They had a ton of old used pcs that were wiped out & priced at $50 as well as several misc pc & entertainment center cables.

They had some DVDs still, but nothing amazing. Most of them were about $5 after the 1/2 off discount. They had a few AMD motherboards & processors & a few car radio kits for I believe Sirius radio. One thing they did seem to have an abundance of was ink carts for Lexmark & HP printers. They had around 10 or so old bulky crt monitors. Really though I wouldn't go expecting to find too much as what was left of the store was all pushed to the middle of the store & looked rather raped over.

I did end up purchasing 2 items, but neither was an amazing buy. I found a sealed Harmony 659 remote for $77, I thought it seamed like a fairly good buy on it, but I ended up paying about $10 more that they were selling for on ebay. I also picked up a 3 Doors Down LE Monster THX/DTS DVD for $5.

If you're going to go there, you better go soon as I'm sure by next weekend most everything will be gone. Ohh yeah & I remember about 10 - 15 360 VGA cables & at least 2 or 3 different copies of Windows Vista.

This weekend will probably be the last time you'll see anything decent in the Duluth store. They will probably change the % sometime later this week.

I picked up Bullet Witch (they had 2 copies) for 49.99 - 40% = 29.99

Stopped by on my way home from work on Tues. They had already posted the signs for 50-70%, which will be effective Wednesday morning. A lot of the 360 titles were gone already, though a few titles were still left. Condemned, a Bullet Witch, a lot of sports games....

Thanks for the heads up. Saw that on my way home after they closed. Don't know if I can get there before 3 tomorrow, so I hope it's not all gone. Went to Lenox location on my break and found that they are already closed.

Bought a Photoshop CS2 Windows upgrade for 199 - 60% this morning, games and accerrories are 50% off, movies 60% off. Probably getting close to being wiped out game-wise by now. A lot of flash drives left, some Mac software, and a lot of cellphone/iPod accessories...

This clearance has been slow and painful watching great items get picked up at terrible discounts. Was able to finally pick up a handful of decent items once it dropped to 50% discount on games including:

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (wii)
Socom Combined Assault
LOTR: BFME II (360)
Condemend (360)
Gun (PSP)
Capcom Puzzle (PSP)
NBA 2K7 (PS3)
PDZ (360)

Zelda was my best find at 50% off.

Went by Novi, MI at lunch - they had a big sign on the door indicating the markdowns until they close Monday (going by my usually faulty memory here)...
Wed/Thurs 50-70% off
Fri/Sat 60-80% off
Sun 70-90% off
...and on Monday discounts will go up until everything is gone and they close the doors.

Very few games left (PSU for the 360 is $29.99 - 50%, $5+tax more than the Amazon DOTD :P )
Laptops and PCs are 30% off (a few Vaio Lappys in box - everything else is demos).

Ran by the Sunset Hills, MO store yesterday, and they were already closed. I'm guessing the other two stores in the St. Louis area should also be closed, though I'll need to try and check the other two stores today.

One in downtown Atlanta surprisingly closed, but another one on the perimeter is still open (I don't know about the others) and they were on the same % off progression as recently as last week so it's worth a shot if you think they'll have something. I know in the past they had shipped clearanced games to other stores in the area, so maybe they shipped the rest of the stuff to another store this time, too.

The Duluth, Atlanta store had the exact same schedule posted. Crappy movies at 60%, PC games were 50 or 60%, still had some games, I think mostly cause they're not price tagged. I did pick up Condemned (15), Need for Speed Most Wanted (15) and Just Cause (20). I knew I'd miss NBA2k7, darn it. They had more (360) NFSMW, King Kong, Ridge Racer, Madden 07, NCAA Football 07, Live Arcade (xbox) thrillville, just cause, madden 07, ncaa 07 (football and basketball). That's all I can remember, but if you ask about a specific game I'll probably remember (except for DS or PSP).

CompUSA as a whole is going to end up going under and you'll see Circuit City follow suit. Basically speaking Best Buy's "instant rebates" are murdering both and you might well see other regional chains die as well. A friend (loosely) of mine was an assistant regional manager for Circuit City (he now works for Macys). He told me nearly 6-8 months back that CompUSA was dead and CC will follow. Basically some "third parties" are responsible for the Best Buy rebate ability. In other words instead of Best Buy investing your rebate dough drawing interest the "rebate dough" comes from third parties though he refused to mention from where when I asked.

The instant rebates are far more attractive to customers thus for the items where CC and CompUSA can make real money they are unable to compete. Video games do not make these places real money in comparison to most other forms of merchandise. Gamestop for example will actually make more money reselling used recent releases than they do nearly anything else in the stores. From what I heard about Gamestop they are concerned now that the aquisition of EB Games may well result in both ending up dead and out of business. MANY (many) people who shopped at EB are now shopping online as "the deals" pretty much went out the window. I was at a EB last week where I have known the manager for years. I asked "Where have all the specials gone" (I only shopped at Gamestop basically for those "Reg/Green Tag" specials, 20% off, 30% etc.) and EB games had them show up after GS aquired them.

He told me that all the "Tag Specials" have been done away with and that GS aquiring EB Games has resulted in stymied competition where consumers will now shop online and places like Best Buy, Target etc. for new releases. Basically rather than going to EB or Gamestop where you might have bought a new release and checked out some discounted or used/closeout people are no longer doing so. Guess time will tell on this one.

No. They're even less profitable than GS or CC. This will mean death to deals. Best Buy will leave games at full price longer since there will be less competition to drive prices down.

Circuit City is actually on the rebound around here (Jacksonville, FL) whereas Best Buy has lost quite a bit of business. They've built one new Circuit City and renovated another in the past year, and they always have better deals.

The two CompUSAs in town are both rather shitastic, though, and they always have been. I mean "shitastic" not only in terms of prices, but the stores literally smell like shit too.

I find it hard to believe circuit city is going to follow the paths of circuit city. Besides, comp usa was easyy to see as a business to go under eventually. It doesn't take a regional manager to figure that out.
