If so, I hope you die in a fucking car wreck. You and your families are worthless fucking sacks of shit, your lives are meaningless, and you're the worst sort of slack-jawed compliant piece of garbage imaginable. I hope you fall off a bridge (after dying in a car wreck, you can die again, fucker).

That is all.

Efficient in the use of the language, proficient in the art of conveying emotion... nicely done. I especially appreciate the set up and punch line effect (or would it be a "punch-in-the-gut-line"?). It's quintessentially post-modern in its construction and radiates an odd beauty in its brash terseness.

Yes, this post rises above the ridiculous fray and has become Art.

I have myke on my Live friends list. And I totally agree with you myke. Healthcare in this country totally blows. They care more about raping the living fuck out of you for money than helping you feel better. Socialized health care is one of the reasons why Canada looks so good to me...

Dare I ask, what happened?

I'm already positive your comments are more than justified, but I'm also curious.

Socialized healthcare has many many inherent problems, such as lack of readily available health-care (most people wait two+ months for any visit) and by removing the capitalist nature of medicine, there is no great incentive for a doctor to perform at a greater level than his peers. In both Canada and the UK, most residents with the cash will go to another country for any major surgery/medical care simply for the better quality of care.

No, but I work in car insurance. Every day all I think about is how I work for a company that sells people a nonexistant product that only causes grief. That being said I do enjoy my specific job even if the context is utterly depressing.

Nothing major by any stretch of the imagination.

I just needed a space to vent, and one that didn't involve shots of Jameson.

I used to, and I totally agree. I actually quit because what they were wanting me to do made me sick to my stomach. When I moved to Jasper and looked for a job I hit a 4 month dry spell. I answered an anonymous looking ad in the paper looking for "willing workers for a promising job" and boom: found myself trying to sell insurance to old people.

The product itself is sound: Medigap insurance to cover the massive gaps the government left in Medicare. The problem? Premiums are over a $100 bucks a month and that's just too damn much for old people to pay in all honesty. I sucked as a salesman anyway, so I didn't sell anything.

I quit when the Medicare Part D stuff was going on. I was honestly stuck in the CVS in the poorest town in Indiana and I was there to "help people with any questions they had about Medicare Part D." Which I really did. What I was really supposed to be doing: getting information from these poor people so people other than myself who can make the company money can visit them and scare them into insurance. I didn't even ask for info from the people I talked to, I just showed them the government's basic plan, showed them mockups of their own actual cost, and then told them to call around to different agencies and ask about their products. I didn't even push the products from the company I was working for. When the guy who trained me chewed me out over the phone for not having peoples name, addresses, and telephone numbers, I quit.

If it makes you feel better, I sucked up a ton of the companies money in training (I scored high on my testing, so they paid for everything and additional training) and I didn't sell a damn thing.

It makes you notice all of the help wanted ads out now featuring sales in insurance and "manager training" jobs out there that are, yep, selling health insurance. Avoid like the plague.

Not all health insurance is equal, just like in any business or profession, there are good eggs and bad eggs. It's worth going for the brand name carrier like Blue Cross, even if you're healthy since you never know when you're need it. Too many people either skimp on it or worse yet don't even get it because they don't anticipate ever needing it until the unfortunate happens. Obviously I don't know if this applies to any of you but it's a common problem I see. A socialized health system is definitely not the way to go; if the governement can't even get Medicare right, why would you think they would do better with a universal system?

I dunno... if the insurance, healthcare, and pharmaceutical companies would stay the fuck out of Congress and stop forcing through legislation more favorable to them and blocking legislation that would hurt them, stuff might work better.

Unfortunately, though, you're absolutely right about health insurance being completely essential. Mine saved me a ton of money this year after I needed a couple doctors visits and a bunch of tests, each well over $500. My deductible was paid out on the first lab+doctor visit. Everything else was just modest co-pays. I wouldn't have had so much walking around money with it.

I still have issues with a company making money off peoples health. I don't think it should be allowed and one of the few insurances I feel valid for for profit is Auto because depending where you live you can make the choice not to have it and just walk around or ride a bike.
Btw you bitching about Pharma, wtf do you think is making you need that shit? They're the assholes putting in or paying those companies to put in certain perservatives in foods to make you sick.

To me auto insurance is almost a bigger racquet. You can have a good rate and not have an accident for say 20 years, but once you get into one and you really need them and the money, they pretty much look at you and say "fuck you"
