So who's heard of this movie? Nobody? not suprised.

This movie actually came out last week and fell waaaaaaaaay under the radar.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

In fact it's awfuly strange case where FOX has intentially cockblocked the release of it. I just went today with a pitiful turnout. there was my group (5 people) and 2 others in the theater for a 5:50 showing TOTAL. Great funny movie though in the vein of classics like OFFICE SPACE. If you enjoyed office space, you will definetly like this one.

There's an article explaining it

GO WATCH THIS MOVIE IF YOU CAN.

On an amusing side note, When I went to the theater in Westwood which showed it, they didn't even have a big advertisement where they display the movies showing. I guess the meager non-existing marketing budget couldnt even afford that.

I've heard of it. It's not even in wide release, yet. I'll see it when/if it's out here, maybe. The only thing he's done that I enjoyed was Office Space. Everything else is shit.

I really want to see it. Though I know a lot of boards trash it because "it rips off the idea from Futurama". Fucktards, its Mike Judge, its gotta be good at any rate

Here's the Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiocracy

This smells fishy...

I think they're intentionally trying to make a cult hit. Office Space just kinda snuck out. It was received as an average comedy until it hit DVD in which case everyone and their brother bought a copy.

Think about it. Everyone is going to be so outraged at them not hyping this movie that they'll go around and hype it themselves. Not only are they getting overwhelming word of mouth advertising, but they aren't even paying for it.

I was wondering the same thing. But I was also thinking that there'd be a lot more money to be made if they actually advertised it for theater viewing.

You'd think if they were to do the no advertising thing, then they'd try and push talk about it themselves and many more people would have at least heard about it.

I highly doubt any attempt to make it a cult hit by keeping it a limited release is a marketing scheme as evidenced by the lackluster box office, the lack of even a damn sign at the theater and the movie not being shown for 2 years. I'm pretty sure much of it has to do with either a personal grudge or some internal problems. Either way I can see why Fox and other corperations might not like this movie at all ;), It bags on advertising pretty horribly.

Business sense it makes none at all to limit a movie's theatrical release just to generate buzz. All you're doing in that sense is losing money.

I saw office space in the theaters and I thought it was quite amusing ;)

I'd like to see this movie. I wish it were playing locally. I won't have too much of a problem waiting for the DVD release, though. It's one of those movies that'll probably be out on DVD in two months.

I'm kinda lucky then, two theaters in 5 miles showing the movie. Once a day.

Unfortunately, according to IMDb.com, unless you live in one of the red areas here:

then you're pretty much screwed for seeing it.

While I want to think the conspiracy theorists are on to something here, the movie's been delayed and shuffled around too much for me to think it's impossible for them to not be hiding it on purpose.

Also, it's been tossed back and forth prior to release for so long that they'd have to have planned the "internet viral marketing practice" around 4 years ago. I'm not buying it.

I wonder if Mike Judge has said anything publicly about this movie.
