It seems that almost every vender has its own exclusive for the upcoming re-re-re-...-release of Episodes IV-VI. Here are the ones I know of, but I'm wondering: what else is out there and who's got it?
Target: exclusive concept art mini-posters
Best Buy: exclusive metal cases
Circuit City: exclusive lithographs
Wal-mart: exclusive graphic novels
Also, has anyone heard any concrete prices?

Wal-mart's site is showing $19.96 each for the "exclusive" content version or $19.64 for the regular ones.

Wtf, that is crazy... $14.99 a piece! And the lithographs too!! How many would you say your store got? Regardless, I'll still be at my CC as soon as they open.
Fuck that BB Metal Tin for $59.99... I'd rather save $15 and get some badass lithographs.

TRU has the DVDs at $19.99 but with each you can get a limited edition (shows Star Wars picture) $5 gift card with the purchase.
So you can just maybe pay three seperate times and itll give you 15 bucks back when combined.
Requiem

This is a dumb question, but do you mean $15 for the entire trilogy, or for each movie seperately?
JokerCard

You get $5 back for every purchase.
So if you buy all three at the same time, you get the $5 card.
But if maybe you choose to buy one a day or if the guys nice enough buy the three seperatly and then you can get a gift card each time.
Only problem is the gift card only works til November.

FYE.com still has them for $12.99 (each, lol) after rebate. Now they have this little ad on the homepage saying "free collectible card set", but absolutely no info can be found for it anywhere...

I ordered mine from FYE.com on the 6th. They show my order as "already shipped out" on 9/11, with a USPS delivery confirmation number that shows it was delivered to New York on May 31st :oldman:

Hey all they were 15 bucks for each dvd and the lithographs are exact copies of the dvd covers and about the size of a folder . My store (polaris, Ohio) got shit ton of dvds and probably 10+ of each of the three lithographs.
Out of the loop question:
How are these different then the box set that came out a couple of years ago?

Agreed... I know it's going to be like pulling fucking teeth at Circuit City to try and get the lithographs since they were will tell me "Oh, we don't know where they are" because everyone in that store is stupid.
And only 10 + lithos? I hope all the SW fans stay away from these because so I can get a lithograph, I guess I'll have to be at CC the minute they open.

Okay-amazon lists these as including both the original cuts and the "special edition" cuts. don't get me wrong-I think the original cuts are far superior, but I just don't want to get fleeced again until I buy these in high def. can anyone confirm that these actually include both cuts of the films?

People wanted original, unaltered transfers. According to Lucas, making them anamorphic would be altering the original. Sucks for everyone with widescreen tv's, including me.

no midnight sale, no deal!
when the 2004 dvd release came out a best buy not too far from me had a big event happening where they had free pizza, free prizes (I didn't win squat), the chance to play battlefront 1 and so on. Doors flew open at midnight everyone grabbed there dvds and headed towards the back where they played ESB on this huge ass widescreen tv . Picked up my copy with battlefront and left about an hour later. I was hoping for a midnight sale for Episode 3 and even this release but I guess it was a one time shot :(

Letterbox will put the black bars on the movie no matter what TV you watch it on. Anamorphic widescreen movies will fill the whole TV with no black bars if you have a widescreen TV.

I don't think that was the reason, since have the films in anamorphic would be closer to the original resolution of film, but because they "destroyed" the original prints when creating the SEs in 97.
Of course, I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of private collectors with prints of the original Star Wars trilogy that could be used for the DVDs, but that would be the smart way of releasing these DVDs.

That is complete BULLSHIT. Remastering the original versions is NOT altering them. Having Greedo fire first however IS altering them. Having them in Anamorphic Widescreen is NOT altering them. Adding the Jabba The Hut scene to Episode 4 however IS altering them.

I Completely agree. Especially since they are not including any of the deleted scenes from either of the trilogys. Its like the BS he did with the prequals. Adding all the extra jedi and extra scenes, just to edit them and never include them on a DVD. Waste of money for a VHS copy of a great movie.

They're not cutting out anything in the widescreen version. They are cutting out the sides in the full screen version. The reason people are complaining about the widescreen version is that since its not anamorphic, it wont be taking advantage of the 16:9 nature of our widescreen tv sets. If you have a full screen TV, you wont notice anything with any dvd if it is anamorphic or not, it will look the same.

I typically like widescreen, but not if it means I'm sacrificing something else for it.Letterboxed movies use a 4:3 image, with black bars that are technically a part of this image. On a widescreen TV, you have to manually zoom in to get the letterboxed movie to fill the screen (since switching to 16:9 mode would just stretch the black bars across the screen).
Anamorphic images are in whatever aspect ratio a film needs to be, with no black bars added to compensate for screen size. The image will automatically fill the screen horizontally, and the black bars you see are just leftover screen space. So no matter what screen size you use, the image will remain in the proper ratio... the only difference will be in the "empty" space on the top and bottom.
Ok, so to summarize... just think about the black bars. With letterboxing the black bars are part of the image, but with anamorphic widescreen the "bars" are just empty space.

They made a lot more stuff better than they did in the negatives (Greedo). I guess if Geogre wants everyone off his back he should release a your edit of Star Wars DVD set people can customize via the store website.

Actually even 4:3 sets will benefit from Anamorphic WS as the actual picture itself will be given a better bitrate since there is less of the black bars encoded on the picture itself which means an overall better picture quality. :D

So on a regular tv, do the black bars cover any of the original footage? Or is it just a smaller image with black bars now appearing above/below it now?

speaking of letterboxing... remember how for the '97 home video versions, they moved all the subtitles into the lower black area? Actually I think I remember a few movies doing that. I guess that practice is discouraged now, now that widescreen TV's are a little more common.

Hell as much as I dislike the "Drew Barrymore Lovefest Walkietalkie No Guns" edition of E.T. at least Spielberg did include the original theatrical version in Anamorphic Widescreen (and very good quality) no less on the 2 disc release.

Just got back from CC. They had all the DVD's but only the Star Wars IV Lithograph. The Fat Jackass CSR wouldn't even look through her pile in the box because 'they were heavy' and said that they only had the one version. Other CC's might have different ones. 3. Found them, only to drop them on the counter, bending the box like you wouldn't beleive.
4. Gave me the top 3...All the Same one (IV)
5. Asked if they had any different ones and the CSR told me no.
6. Asked her to look...Told me no, that the box was 'too heavy' to go through.
7. Offered to do it for her and she flat out told me thet it was the only one they had. Check with other CC.
8. Ended up with 3 Episode IV Litho's
I agree, CC is sh!t. They got the nicest of the exclusives, and F-ed it up.

how is the t-shirt?
Cool. It has the Lego SW logo on the front where the pocket should be, and Chewbacca with a Stormtrooper helmet barely on his head on the back and Lucasarts on the sleve.
The largest size they had was an Adult Medium, so it should fit my kid.

Surpringsly, my CC had them all out and seperated at the register, caught me by surprise.
Go back and talk to a manager, the ad even states you get a different one for each movie.

Picked up the movies from my CC. Lithos were larger than I expected. The fellow had them all under his register, saying he had to hide them from the other employees so they wouldn't take them all. He said they only got about 10 of each litho, and unless they were hiding the rest of the DVDs elsewhere, it only seemed like 4-5 of each movie (and a couple FS versions) on the big standee display.
They sold out of their 4 LEGO SW shirts in less than 10 minutes of the store being open. This is not to mention they didn't even have either Xbox version of the game to begin with.
I went to Best Buy afterward to get the rest of my new releases this week, and they seemed to have plenty of everything Star Wars. Unfortunately we only get 40-cents off of the metal tin off sale price, so that helped me decide to go for the lithos.
I plan to go to Wally World after class to check out how thick the graphic novels are. Might have to pick up one or three and just sell the duplicate DVDs.

I showed her that, which is why I got the 'Maybe there are different ones at other CC's' response. I'm chalking it up to a Lazy CSR. This CC is just awful.

Bought all 3 movies at my CC this morning and got 1 lithograph. They told me it was only 1 per purchase, not one per movie. I just looked at the ad online though and it does indeed say "...lithograph with purchase of each Star Wars new release. Collect all three!" Hard to collect all three when it's "one per purchase". Maybe I'll go bother them about it after work.

Are the Target mini posters the same deal as the Narnia ones were (They were packaged inside the DVD case)? Wouldn't mind the CC lithos but I don't want to get the run-around from the CSRs and Target's closer anyway.

I guess from some other replies in this thread I got real lucky... I knew CC would fuck this up, if not for me, but for other people. I was third or so in line to get the movies, there was nobody else buying the movies with you?
I think if my CC tried this shit the people in front of me would have gone apeshit, espically because one lady had the picture of all three lithos circled in her ad.
Did anyone ever figure out what's in that Best Buy tin, or is just a tin and the movies? If it's the latter, that is a huge rip off imo.
The CC lithographs are very awesome and definitely worth the price of the movies.

Alrighty-I ended up heading over to CC to pick up my movies, and boy was I delighted. Not only did they have all the lithos ready to go and separated at the checkout counter (beautiful lithographs, by the way), but they had a pricing error in my favor-the star wars display actually had a big red "13.99" price tag on it and I ended up getting all 3 of them for 13.99 each. Hooray for circuit city!!
I think they pulled the tag after I spotted it, but just in case-I bought these at the south orlando circuit city.

I was first in line, and the person behind me was just as dumbfounded as I was at the pure 'helpfulness' of the CSR. He even offered to help, but at this time I knew to cut my losses.
Turns out that my wife was able to score a complete set for me, so I'm returning the DVD's I got...and keeping the Litho's.
They are nice!

For some reason ANH and RotJ are $15 at deepdiscountdvd.com, but ESB is like $26. I realize it's everyone's favorite movie (and the only one I was actually set on buying), but what's the deal??

Quick question guys: I managed to get the lithographs at CC after a long debate with some CSRs, but I kind of don't need the movies (or want them). If I return the movies, I need to return the lithographs as well, right?
Thanks in advance.

Just got back from CC, and not only did I get all three Lithographs (I still don't know what a lithograph is) without even asking, but the movies were priced at 12.99 each. Which is especially great for me because I just cancelled a pre-order I had at overstock for like 18 something each.
As a side note, even though Overstock overall is not bad, I wouldn't recommend pre-ordering from them, as cancelling is a big hassle.

My CC had all three lithographs and I got one of each, no problem. This is the best exclusive for these movies. For once, my CC was easy to deal with on bonus items and I am happy. :)

Did they ask you why you're returning them? Or what did you say when you went up to the CSR desk to return them? My sister picked up these DVDs as well, so I don't think we need two sets of these, but she didn't get the lithographs.

Are the 3 DVDs the same as the individual retail ones (artwork, case and factory sealed)? That is, BB basically bundles the 3 DVDs in the tin?

Artwork and case: yes
Factory Sealed: No
It's basically the three dvds unsealed with a white sticker over the UPC.

At least if it's on the plastic, I can remove them without damaging the cover and file the DVDs with the other SW DVDs.

Nope. I just walked up to customer srevice and asked to return them. No questions asked. Now granted, the CSR was like 19 and this particular CC is the worst. They never care about any of the free bonuses.
If asked, tell them the truth. Tell them you're returning them because your sister got them as well. If asked about the Litho's, which I doubt you will, just tell them you didn't get them.

Its on the plastic. So even if you do mess up the plastic while taking it off, you can always take the artwork and slip it into another 2 disc case. I'm not gonna take it off right now as it doesnt really bother me, unless of course it comes off as easy as the Gamestop stickers.

One disc is the 2004 edition, the other is the original 70s/80s edition. I don't know which disc is which, but that's what each disc contains.

I went to Best Buy Tuesday morning with no intentions of even picking this up. I was going to get them eventually, and I actually really wanted the lithographs, but my CC has to be the worst in the country and I refuse to give them any business. My BB got me in the mood for the DVDs, because Chewbacca was walking around. So, I took a picture with him, holding the tin, and then decided I should just buy it. I love the way the tin looks on the shelf, and very happy I bought it. :bouncy:
BB wants $60 for the tin set and CC sells the 3 for $15 each. Is the tin actually worth the extra $15???
The BB I went to today ran out of the tin, so I have no clue how it looks like at all (except the tiny pic on their website).

I saw the tin yesterday at BB and it didnt look that impressive to me. Worth $15 more? Maybe if there is exclusive content inside, which I dont think there is. I say the lithographs at CC are far better.

Isn't it $14.99 each at CC? I didn't know CC has regional pricing.

I went in expecting 14.99, but they had a large display that prominently displayed "$12.99." I think someone else earlier in the thread said their CC had them at 13.99 each, so maybe it is regional pricing.
I'm in the Boston area, btw.

I have no Circuit City within 100 miles, and I split the cost of the BB tin with my wife. So, an extra $5 from my wallet was worth it for the tin. It's nice, packages everything together well. If I had a CC I probably would have just picked up all 3 individually though since I'm broke as hell now.
I watched the original Star Wars tonight. Felt good to see everything in it's original state. Didn't have to get aggrivated over extra dewbacks or that stupid Jabba scene.
Stay on target, stay on target...
For those that are still on the fence: If you despise the Jedi Rocks sequence replacing Max Rebo, pick it up. If you only have a standard def TV and won't be able to afford a nice new LCD or whatever for a while, pick it up. If you've seen it zoomed-in on a widescreen TV and it still has decent picture quality, pick it up.
Honestly, I don't know if Lucas will ever release anamorphic remastered editions of something he truly believes to be obsolete. I'm willing to bet that he won't. If he does, then I'll buy those, of course. Another $50 or $60 several years from now won't kill me.
I went to Best Buy yesterday and they had 5 tins left, all dented to hell and back. Instead, I bought the 3 DVDs and then price matched them to Fry's $13.99 price. So, I got them for $13.69 each, almost as good as aarif1's haul.
$41.07 for all 3 DVDs. The tin is not worth the extra $19, especially those fucking dented tins.
