I really want one of the new ipods. Are there any coupon codes or things I could use to make it cheaper?

does that count for high school student? Or does it count if you are a teacher (my dad is)?

Educational discounts are only for k-12 teachers and staff as well as college students, teachers and staff.

You could get one of the better, cheaper, mp3 players instead of wasting money just to get the apple name.

apple is no longer giving discounts so it says at macrumors.com

try applying the discount to the new ipods and see for yourself

The educational discount still seems to work on computers and notebooks but not on ipods anymore.

Yeah, because there are plenty of MP3 players with 80GB of space

hmm...I don't recall the OP requesting a 80GB MP3 player. (Although there are several Archos players with 100GB if he/she do desires)

Either way, I'd suggest looking at Creative's MP3 players if you want to get the cost down. They have a larger variety of MP3 players than Apple and they're generally ALL cheaper than and iPod.
I bought my Zen XTRA 60GB 2 years ago for $200. At that time, the 60GB iPod cost between $400-$500.

Oh yeah, and you won't be forced to using that iTunes garbage. :bouncy:

That was just me pointing out the fact that iPod is the only one with that much storage, so far.

Also those Archos are mobile digital video recorders not MP3 players.

Not only that but the Archos are over 500 dollars.

$350 for an 80GB iPod or $535 for a 100GB Archos? Hard decision.

Yeah, you're right.

Why get a 80GB iPod for $350 when you can get a 60 GB Zen Vision: M for $400 or a 60GB Zen Vision: W for $499

What a bargain!

You should do some research before you shit all over something.

------------

Creative does have some nice stuff (mainly the smaller players) but for storage size/price, Apple is ahead of everybody at this point.

Wow guys chill out. I do want the 80 gig model. My friend has a creative zen micro (one of the older ones with a blue screen {no color screen}) and I found the controls to be pretty unresponsive. I don't know if that is the case with all of them but I don't know. The price is not really a problem for me (but I would have liked to use the educational discount). Thanks for being so responsive to my post.

Well, I wasn't trying to "shit" on iPods. I was just informing the OP that there are options out there besides what Apple offers. It's sad, but I think there are a LOT of people who don't realize that.

And for anyone who uses iTunes, that's fine. AFAIK, that's the only method of transferring files that's supported by Apple. There's lots of third party software for other players too. I just prefer being able to click and drag from within Windows like I do with my ZEN.

And I was just correcting your original post which had some misinformation.

I was just correcting your "iPod = iTunes" statement. While it's true that iTunes is the only method supported by Apple that doesn't mean it's your only option.

Red Chair Software develops third party transfer programs for iPod, Zen/Nomad, Rio, Dell and iRiver

I just prefer being able to click and drag from within Windows like I do with my ZEN.

You can do that with Anapod

Windows Integrated, What Else?
What could be more natural, simple, and powerful than accessing your iPod as a device in My Computer? Browse your iPod using Explorer folders, right-click menus, and drag and drop, it's all there, just like you expect it to be. The less energy you waste figuring out how to interface with your iPod, the more you can enjoy your music. Excellent.

Sorry if I came off harsh, I just can't stand misinformation.

It drives me right up the walls.

I stand corrected. Thanks for informing me. Although I'd still take a non-iPod anyday. ;)

iTunes is fantastic-I use it even when I'm NOT using my iPod. It's a big selling point for me versus anything else.

Plus, iPods can be used as portable hard drives WITHOUT any special drivers. Maybe it's changed, but all the other MP3 players I looked at couldn't.

At any rate, I can't see buying anything else when everything else looks worse, usually has a worse overall feature set and interface, and costs about the same.

I just got a new 30GB model. (Hard choosing between that and the new 2GB silver Nano).

Circuit City has the new 80 gig ipod with free shipping and in conjunction with the 10% off $199 or more, you could get it for $315 shipped.... preorder or wait until 9/19... not bad.
