Looking for a sofa or couch

I'm planning on buying a new sofa or couch to replace the old one in the living room. I've never bought a couch before so I'm not sure what to look for. 2 questions.

Where is a good place to buy them from? I don't even know what kind of store I would go to.

Anyone know of a good deal for one? Do these things go on sale often?

Is there an Ikea near you?

Just go there and sit on the couches they have out and find one you like.

They have cheap to expensive ones.

That would be my suggestion anyway.

Ideally, look for a furniture store to go out of business.
I got a leather sofa and matching loveseat for $400.

Garage Sales...we got our couches that look pretty damn new for $75...they wanted $200, but it was a garage sale :-P

There's no Ikea around here so that's not gonna work. I thought about garage sales but I have the worst luck finding good stuff at those things. I'm gonna try some of the discount warehouse places tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

jennifer sofa shops generally have good deals (or used to) ... a couch will be 1000 in a furniture store and jennifer will have one that looks just the same for 500.
