Basically if you bring in a pokemon game for gba and a gameboy advance you get a mew transferred to your game between the hours of 12-3pm. You dont need to bring a link cable because they provide it, and of course a nintendo ds will not work because you cant link through gameboy advance games with it.

Pokémon Sapphire

Pokémon Emerald
these are the required games in case you were to lazy to click.
I havent played pokemon in the LONGEST time but I will find my LeafGreen (never really played it) and get me a mew!!!
Awsome, totally brings me back to when i went to TRU every week for Pokemon TCG (yeah.....I'd still play but no one wants to play with me). One time they said bring in you gameboy and game (Red & Blue) to get mew.

Wait, what? Lame.
I don't even own a GBA, only a DS. Cmon, the GBA even has that wireless adapter thing, I just wish they made this DS compatiable.
I don't think I'd go to TRU with my GBA and Pokemon anyways, though. A little too embarrassing for me.

A bit more info.
For Pokemon Emerald, you'll need to have the national dex and a pokemon to trade.
For Pokemon Leaf Green/Fire Red, you need to have obtained a Pokedex and have a Pokemon you're willing to trade.

Crap.. I know I'm way too old to play Pokémon but I actully have Pokémon LeafGreen... hmm... and I DO want to go get this Mew thing... however, even though I don't care others might laugh at me at TRU when 99.999% people there will be a factor of 3 to 5 younger than me... I cannot go because I'd be out of the country at that time... this sux...

Cool!!! My brother and I are in our late 20s and we're going to get this! He's more of a Pokemaniac than I am!
I just picked up FireRed again to play after putting it down since it came out! I only had 3 badges and 30 Pokemon back then (stopped playing at ~12 hours) but I just beat SABRINA and got a 4th badge and going to Pokemon Tower with the Silphe Scope! The Mysterious Mew addition to my team will help me breeze through the game!
Does anyone know if this is limit one per person or game pak? Because my brother and I have FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald (as well as the original Red and Blue!).
Gotta Catch 'em All!!!

Can I ask what you're doing in here posting in a thread you have absolutely no interest in? Do you do this at other threads?
I remember going to the Pokemon conventions in '99, '00, and I think '01. Each time I would get a Mew plus the official certificate of authenticity from Nintendo. Ended up with three or four when all was said and done. Kinda want to get one/some for my newer Pokemon games, but I really don't want to go in there. Maybe if I can get my nephew to come down...

Darn, to bad I don't have GBA and the Pokemon games because Mew is my favorite Pokemon. I got him at TRU for the first set of games. XD It is lvl 96 right now with Ditto's change form and 1 hit KO moves. He wastes his 1 hit kOs then transform into your Pokemon haha.. He is killer... I mean, he can learn about anything. My old team was my Mew and 5 Mewtwos. Each Mewtwo had a different setup like "Anit-Fire and Anti-Water" or "Anti-Grass Anti-Bug" basicly moves to kill other types of Pokemon. Ohhhh the good old days of my Mew Squad.

You guys are all closet nerds! You all know who Mew is. Pokemon (though I have gotten a little tired of it) is one of the greatest video games of all time. It pretty much SOLD the Gameboys. I still cant believe how excited I was when I got my special Pokemon GBC that came packaged with Pokemon Yellow (One of my all time favorite games). It really is just nostalgia now but I never got Mew so I will be going to TRU on the 30th.

Also keep in mind that pokemon fire red/leaf green is going to go greatest hits on the gba soon which means it will be only 19.99 everywhere (or you can buy it for 17$ right now if your kmart has any in stock, since its on clearance), i think it might be on sale before this date as well so you might be able to purchase the game for 19.99 before the 30th and be able to get your mew if you dont have any pokemon games.
I suppose its a bit eaiser for a girl to get away with it even though i am 24 years old and soon turning 25, i went to the other event at toys r us where you got special pokemon that were unobtainable in the other game (good for if you only had one of fire red or leaf green) basically there were only 3 people to come into the store over here and get the pokemon, the TRU closest to my house closed though so now i have to drive to amherst if i want to get the pokemon. It would be nice if a bunch of people showed up cause then we can have a tradefest but its highly unlikely.
If anyone comes down to the Amherst, NY TRU i will likely have a box full of official celebi and other rare pokemon to give out, if you see the old girl just ask to trade lol, not sure how long ill be able to hang around though.
Oh yeah and if your here to make fun of pokemon or aren't interested, please dont post in this thread, thanks.

I was planning on getting one of the Pokemon games for GBA, but the average $34.99 isn't a CAG friendly price, and I don't have a K-mart around.
But I don't really want to pass up the chance to get a Mew...

Looks like they will become greatest hits on the 25th or 26th of September which should leave enough time to get the pokedex ingame in preperation for the transfer. This hinges upon ebgames.com giving an accurate ship date for Leaf Green Greatest Hits-

Might be able to pick one up at Best Buy for $15 after GGC. :)

This sure bring back old memories of me playing pokemon blue and red.The missing signal dupe trick for 99 master ball,99 rare candies,or 99 of any item.Mew was ok,he can learn any moves, but his stats are very weak.Mewtwo was kinda rigged really high stats, two uber skills(recover/psychic) and have no weakness. The only way to beat him is the 2nd chessy character parasite with automatic sleep powder and constantly leech attack.I think the latter version of pokemon they nerf Mewtwo a lot.

I gave up on pokemon, you will never ever catch them all! You have a higher probability of getting struck by lightning then catching all the pokemon. I would totally go to get mew and shove the little kiddies out of the way, but I only have red and silver; too cheap to buy any more pokemon games.

If the games come out even on the 29th there is enough time to get the pokedex and an extra pokemon for trade, i think getting the pokedex probably takes at most about 10-15 min of gameplay so you could actually buy the 19.99 game in TRU on the 30th, bring your gameboy with you, play until you got the required stuff then get the download. A little cumbersome but it would save you some time, also you could borrow a friend's pokemon game if you dont have one yet then just trade the pokemon back to your game when you get your own.
I seriously doubt TRU would fail to stock the players choice version for this event, it could be the potential to sell more copies for the store.
iceblast21
09-16-2006, 12:42 PM
I was just at Circuit City, and the games are already price dropped to $20 (with no Player's Choice writing, if that matters to you). So go buy one if you're interested.
Also, no one bothered talking about the "limited quantities" thing. This trade is different from the convention trades (where they would either give you a special ticket so you could catch the Pokemon or they would directly trade the Pokemon into your party as long as you had an empty slot in your team).
Since this trade is different, and since it requires you to PHYSICALLY trade a pokemon (one of yours in echange for Mew), I am wondering if the pokemon each TRUS gets is in limited quantities (like they claim).
If that's true, it's quite possible each store will get some limited number to trade: 50? 100?
So I'm going early just to make sure. Nothing would suck more than to go get a free Pokemon at age 24, only to be told they ran out! HA HA!

Usually the carts they have are filled with the pokemon mew so i doubt they would run out of them, the reason they say that is in case mass quantities of kids show up for the download, they might run out, again i seriously doubt that will happen.

Anyone who says they're too old to travel a short distance to a store to get an extremely rare Pokemon is kiddin' themselves. The Pokemon games are excellent RPGs and helped pioneer a number of innovations in(and out) of the genre.
Who are you worried about embarassing yourselves in front of? Complete strangers? Go forth and indulge, mis amigos!
Lol if im off that day ill get mew, and ask anyone if they want to battle. I havent had a good challenge in pokemon battles since jr high when Red and Blue first came out.

Well, I am turning 30 this year, just had twin girls in May and I love Pokemon. Been hooked since the beginning and I wish I was in NY to get a Celebi. All I need is Deoxys, Mew and Celebi to complete my 386 before D/P. I got my nieces and nephews playing too and we have a ball trading and battling on the weekends.

09-17-2006, 05:11 PM
The problem is there just isnt anyone to play with especially for the older people, and forget about the children in my family all they want is a ps2 and ipods, although wifi in d/p will solve this problem, and from what i hear there is at least one way to battle people randomly. Thats why i think it would be nice if a whole group showed up at TRU then we could have a trade and battle fest.
Also if an older person walks up to a kid who is playing a gameboy its considered inappropriate nowdays, in that you are not supposed to talk to children even if you are just honestly trying to give them a pokemon or have a battle, it could be seen the other way in that you are trying to lure them into a trap to kidnap them.
Anyways i will be in no way shamed to get my mew, and i will be nice enough to hand out celebi or deoxys or other rare pokemon to those that want them.
Also, if it doesnt let you get more than one mew and you have other game carts just bring an extra gameboy advance if you have one or borrow one from a friend, bring someone else with you and put your cart into the other advance then hand them the gameboy and have them get the mew on your cart for you, you wont need extra link cables or anything since they provide the link cable for you. I plan on sticking my mom with one of the extra gameboy advances that i have and one of my games so i can get an extra mew if they are only allowing one.

That would have been way too much.... and you know every kid would be laughing like crazy at it.... BTW i think you could have gotten those at play-asia at one time, i am kinda sad i didnt just for novelty sake. I did get a mime jr. stylus there so i am not that sad about missing one i would probably never use.
I didnt start into the pokemon games until like 2001 and i remember being so mad because mew was not availible especially because i had thought you could just pop into any TRU on a weekend of the pokemon league and have it downloaded to your game.
But yeah, your right though, there was a mew giveaway for the gbc at one point at tru, but it was before i started into the games so i obviously missed out, i would guess that the first mew giveaway was sometimes in 1999 since that is the year that pokemon exploded, so about 6-7 years since mew has been legitimatly availible, thats quite a long time to wait!!!

I went and bought fire red yesterday without markings from Walmart. Have them reach for the back copies if you care about that stuff. And I preped the game in 15 minutes. I'm on the second floor already with a pidgey ready to be traded.
I was a little hesistant. But it's like, I'm a gamer. Pokemon at it's core is a fine game. And with online play from d/p and the Wii version, you finally get to battle people a little more focused and knowledgable with there battling. I mean you can only beat children/tweens so often. I never came across anyone older to play with. I'm about to catch and train all I can with Sapphire and FRed to be rdy to upload when d/p hits.

How can you be too old to play a video game? Pokemon is a good RPG simple as that. If the anime (which came out after the game) was a little better then im sure more people would like it. Then again most people think that if a game has an anime or "cartoon" counterpart, then its for kids.
Heck you should've seen the line for Diamond and Pearl in Japan, not only was it all the way down the block, but there were many older teens to adults in the line, with DSlites.

They had to cut the line off at 3pm or else they would be there until the store closed lol! It took over 3 hours just to get mew.
Edit, most of the kids were very grateful to get pokemon from me and to get mew, the vast majority said thank you and a ton of them even let me cut in front of them in the line, its nice to see there are grateful and appreciative kids out in this world.

I gave my MissingNo. a rare candy and he turns into a Mewtwo lol. That dupe trick must have been the greatest trick EVER in a video game. I still remember how to do it even today after all these years. But sometimes instead of fighting MissingNo. I would have to fight a lvl 150 Mewtwo sometimes  I caught it and gave it a rare candy and it became lvl 100 and can learn any moves possible lol.

Man I wish I could of got them 2 from someone like you. :-/
Truth be told this was all out of nowhere. I wish I would of played my game through and had a cable to trade some pokemon. I mean this kids had tons of everything. But I didn't know what I couldn't get in F-Red and Sapphire, that's in Emerald, L-Green, and Ruby. I'll only find out down the line I guess. Most likely when Diamond and Pearl comes out. You can only transfer up and it permenant but I doubt I'll go back to GBA playing.
PS: Oh I was able to get 4. Probably could of got more. The manager didn't care since I was that last. But it was a new F-Red and I had only caught about 5 while in line. Then some kid hopped in line after the lady who told him it was closed left. I'm kinda mad. He cost me a mew. :-P

Who the hell gives away a celebi? The manager said he got some good ones. I asked him could I get some. I didn't even look up. I have a thing about asking twice. I heard a girl was giving away one of her Jerachi's. She had Emerald and didn't beat it yet. Poor girl couldn't get Mew.

I think it was one dude I think was worth dueling in that line. Kinda reminded me of that episode of Dragonball Z when Goku and Pikan acknowledged each other as the only folks worth competeing against. I think he was Goku. Only because he actually had a Emerald completed. I didn't have any version completed.
Alot of kids seemed to know alot so they are more knowledgable last time I was around some but it was like they didn't seem like they new how to "play". I can't wait for diamond and pearl.

I'm so pissed... I got there at 11:45am and saw a long Fucking line of kids there, maybe about 30, at my store. And, I'm so serious, the line did not freaking move after 45 minutes. It seemed like the kids were unprepared to trade (ie, did not save at a Pokemon Center 2F Game Link Counter or were unsure of which Pokemon to trade away).
I had to leave at 12:35pm because I had to attend my girlfriend's friend's wedding at 2:00pm. What totally sucks is I actually counted only 6 people before I left who got Mews.
:wall: :for not going to TRU when it opened and waiting in the VG section
 : for not getting the Mew today
:boxing: :wanting to punch those kids who didn't have their GBAs ready for trade (to speed up the line)
#-o:for missing out on a great trade offer from TRU and Nintendo
 := all the above feelings combined
Oh well, thanks for the great trade offer, Toys R Us and Nintendo. And, I guess I can't really be mad at the kids as they would have waited just as long to get their Mew. I guess in the end I'm just mad at myself for not going there earlier and having other priorities to tend to.

I went down there. I waited three hours but got four Mews on four carts (FR/LG and R/S). I drove home and then came back with my e-Reader, Eon Ticket, and link cable and was a minor celebrity - I mixed records with at least seven kids and gave 'em Eon Tickets. Someone else gave me a Pokemon with Pokerus and also traded a Jirachi back and forth for my Pokedex. I dueled one guy...really not fair, as all of his Pokemon were L51-55 (and one L82 Charizard) vs. my L90 Zapdos and L88 Gengar.

I think the dupe trick is what some of the kids in the store were calling cloning. It has something to do with turning the system off when during the trade. F that.
Also one kid was willing to trade a deoxys for a febas. It felt good knowing i had like 5 febas sitting at home in my pokemon box.

I waited for about two hours. The line wasn't long, but things were going so slow (obviously the thing with kids needing to get to the 2F and then some with not being able to transfer). When I first went there I guess there was a problem with a couple kids bringing in 7+ carts each. So yeah, it's cool if you got more than one, but damn people don't need that many. Just clone it.

What's your reasoning on this? I could see if a ton of adults were hoarding them and preventing the kids from being able to get a Mew, but that's silly. I was the only adult (aside from parents who were simply with their kids, not trading themselves) where I went. And standing in line for about an hour, I made sure the kids around me were well prepare for their turn at the table. They had an extra pokemon to trade in their party, and were saved upstairs.
As soon as the kids I had been speaking to started getting up to the table, the trade time shortened from about 12 minutes + per kid, to about 4 or 5 minutes per trade. That was a help to everyone in line, and ensured that more would be able to trade within the noon - 3pm window.
i have the e-reader with eon ticket) *drooling* I want an eon ticket and an aurora ticket!! I don't need to keep it, I just wanna use it. *pouts*
But I thought once you had a cheated pokemon, you are no longer able to participate in the nntendo events? Is that false information?

All it is is a normal trade, its not an nintendo event, they dont care what you trade them either, you could trade a hacked pokemon for all they care.
I think what you are referring to is when they hold the tournaments in NYC and the pokemon video game world championships, at those events they scan your game in something from what i understand to make sure nothing is abnormal. Its obvious why they do this, it wouldnt be a fair tournament unless they made sure no one had cheated.
The game cannot tell if a pokemon is cloned or duplicated, it is the same as having 2 of the same pokemon. Needless to say the cloning glitch is a nice blessing as i recieved good trades for my celebi and other rares due to everyone having duplicated their best pokemon.
Each store was given like 2 carts full of mew, thats about 1000 mew for all who are interested, i seriously doubt that many were given away, they definitly had a good supply though, so hoarding was unecessary.

I guess I don't know. You could always send your best Pokemon over to your other cartridge and then send it back in your new game, I suppose, if you have two GBAs or a DS or something.
After looking at this thread and reading that FireRed and LeafGreen are now Player's Choice, I went and picked up a copy tonight. I'm too engrossed in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon right now, though, to take the factory seal off my copy of FireRed.

Yeah, that's what i disliked about this event. It took an incredibly long time for each person to get a Mew...some idiot kids brought their DSes and had to use the extra SP That the TRU staff had on hand (one kid even tried to use a Pokemon Red cart!). The guy also had to get out and load more Mew after he had did six trades. He said that he ahd 1400 Mews on two carts, which was just a FireRed cart with everything done on it.

The poor girl employee at our tru spent over 4 hours trading pokemon to kids without a break, she had to call another person to take over just so she could get a break. Even after i waited 3 hours and they cut off the line there was probably another 3-4 hours of people left after that, they were probably in there trading pokemon until close to store closing, i pity the employees that had to put up with this. Not to mention the employee managed to keep a smile through all this! Plus no one was actually buying games or things in the r-zone dept everyone was just there for the download. One kid stated they counted about 10-12 other people in the whole store that were there to buy things instead of for the download.
At least we probably wont have to put up with this again because pokemon d/p on the ds are wireless and wifi internet, they really just need to set up a download station with unlimited mew and leave it in the TRU stores for a week or something, if they wanted to release a pokemon they could just send it over wifi or set up a download station in a store.
I would imagine this was advertised in TRU's weekly ad or something, thats why so many people came.
