View Full Version : (PROBABLY DEAD) Used GBA Micro Black $14.99 at Game Crazy.

If you can find a used GBA micro that is black, not silver, it should be $14.99. I work at Game Crazy that is a corporate store and I bought mine a couple days ago. The silver ones did not change in price. I went to a local franchise Game Crazy and sure enough, it was also $14.99. This sale did not print up on our price changes so act fast while the employees don't know.

Anywhere from 10.00 to 50.00 on ebay check complete listings, $50 one came with box and a couple games which you won't get a used System with box at GC. Most of them on ebay didn't sell.

I kind of hope this isn't true, since I just bought a new black micro a couple of weeks ago (no, not at retail price). I really like the micro. If Nintendo had been able to sell them for about $50 instead of $100, I think they would have been a big hit.

yeah i noticed this the other day too. hopefully you guys find a store that already has one in. chances are if any of them get traded in after this drop they'll be traded in under the silver micro which is still normal price.

Try reading the replies next time. I can read the titles. M1C1E says it's the new price, and he works there. Having it as the new price makes more sense, they're trying to get rid of them.

not bullshit. i as a game crazy employee saw this on friday. the trade in value for them is like 6.75. that's why i said you better find one that had one in stock before this drop because chances are no one is going to trade theirs in at that price.

No offense, but I think you are the one who needs to read more carefully. He was replying to someone who said that they were $89.99 before the drop. He corrected them by saying that $89.99 was the NEW price, not the used price, which was $69.99.

By the way, if this is really the price, could it be a mistake of some kind? Seems strange that they would drop them so low, and for only one color.

The way I read it, M1C1E was talking to the OP, saying that $14.99 was the NEW price and that $64.99 was the used price. When clearancing out game consoles, this isn't uncommon.. they'll list a new N64 at an extremely low price (because one will never be in), but the used price will stay up there. I was guessing that that was what was happening here, that they're trying to get rid of the black Micro. Oh well, sorry.

Don't worry about letting on to the deal, everyone at the store is SUPPOSED to be "let on" to all the deals everyday they come into work. MOST employees don't care because it's not a 360 or PS2 drop so they either don't read it at all or or just skim over it and don't change the price. I can't stand that.

EDIT: Sorry for the multi posts I am answering as I see them.

It was my regular store. Called at 10 when they opened, manager was working, asked if they had any, he said no, then looked and said they got in a black one. I said "Why don't you scan that thing and give me the news" I got silence for a minute followed by "Are you fucking kidding me?" Then he put on hold until I could pick it up on my lunch break. Ok, I've just made a couple more calls around, and it turns out the Black GBA Micro IS $14.99 USED.

What happened with me was that the guy at the store I went to, and admittedly myself, confused a Silver one for a Black one.

raregamergirl

I can confirm this, but it is a pricing error from what the DM told me. this is why when you purchase it that it does not ask for the serial number. Supposedly if the store has them, they are supposed to switch it over to the silver in their system but you might be able to get lucky on it. Store near me loves me and they let me have it at the $15 price, no charger though.

Man, I think I blew this one. I just went to my gamecrazy and there it was -- what I now know to be a used, black micro (as shown on micro.gameboy.com, that's the one with the flame and camo faceplates -- without faceplates it has a silver face and BLACK trim). I told the guy that I heard there was a price drop on the black one and had him check the price on the computer. He sort of frowned and said, "no, that's the silver one." Then somebody else asked him something and I figured that was it. I thought he was telling me the one they had was silver.

I was confused on what color was what at this point and I saw the identical one brand new in the box, I could see it's face was silver and decided that there was no black micro in the store. I didn't press any further on the counter guy.

Now I know it was a black one and he either a) wasn't through answering my question (having not yet looked up the black unit's price) or b) saw the $14.99 price and decided to BS me!!! Now I want to go back but I have to talk to someone different... agh....!

The "black" Micro is one that comes with 3 faceplates when new: silver, flame, and camo. The area behind the faceplate is black.

The "silver" Micro comes with black, flower, and "strobe" faceplate when new. The area behind the faceplate is silver.

As I already explained, your stores do not have them mislabelled, I was told by the DM that its an error and they are supposed to take all micro systems in under the silver SKU. If you do not get them, dont get angry at the employees or managers as its not their fault. This doesnt mean dont try to get it, no reason not to, but dont get angry if your store has the black systems under the silver SKU.

I just got from a GC that I knew had a black one. I had the guy check the price and it was $69.99. He knows me and it is doubtful he was trying to pull one over on me. Just a heads-up, but this deal is probably dead now because employees seem to know what's up.

I just spoke to the Westland, Livonia and Southfield MI stores. Livonia does not have any, but Westland and Southfield do, and they are both aware that there was a flaw in the system and they are ringing them at the $69 price and not the $15 one.

Unless you have a really cool buddy that works for GC, I doubt anyone else will get any milage out of this now...

On a complete aside, isn't it funny how GC employees hardly ever seem to know about price drops and sales, but if there is an incorrect lower price, they are all over it?

Here's the deal...

if you're calling GC and they are saying their used black micro is still the 69.99 price this is what probably happened...

A) The silver one always recieved more store credit. like a 5-6 dolllar difference i believe. chances are the employee, just to hook the customer up, traded a black one in as a silver. So when these employees scan the barcode on the BLACK system they're actually scanning the barcode for a SILVER system. Thus, the price rings up normal and not 14.99.

OR

B) They're just complete morons.

i'd pick B.

Calling to see if they have stock is different from saying "Yeah, I heard on the Internet that you guys have something really cheap!" Besides, the "don't call" rule is mostly for online stores, since if they are alerted to something it can put an end to a deal very quickly. I doubt that Game Crazy employees are calling up corporate to ask about these micros.

There are probably some gung-ho employees that do just that, but I wouldn't worry about it. I'm more concerned with condescending CAGs who say a deal is not legit because they called and asked about the price when there are CAGs who are actually picking these up in stores.

I'm pretty sure that isn't even a rule, in the grammatical sense of the term.

I just liked that he started it off with "HEY IDIOT."

Yeah but there's always a chance of employee hoarding.
Thanks for posting the deal OP. It's a really great deal for those that get in on it, especially with the 12 free rentals.
I second that.

there goes my idea of selling my micro...

Well I got one, I didn't even know it but the one Micro that we have had for about 6 months was a black one but it was scanned in as a Silver one (it had a sticker/bar code on the back that said silver. But the down side was that they lost the power cord so I had to buy the DS/DS lite/SP/Micro car/USB charger and since it was my store my manager made me get a 1 year Service Contract.

But this is where it gets interesting the Black Micro rang up as a software/accessory item and NOT a hardware item meaning I got my Employee discount which is even though it is 10% it went from 14.99 to 11.99. This could also mean that you could use your MVP and it would ring up as 10% less.

I don't usually pick up the 12 month coupons because I get FREE rentals anyway but not on new releases and GC actually owes me 3 of them....HMM....

Oh BTW about the rules GameCrazy won't change the price unless for some reason instead of calling the store you called corporate HQ the worst that would happen is that an employee will buy it before you get there.

MY store is Game Crazy 135794 Forest Park, OH on the corner of Winton and Kemper if you ever want to stop in I have already met CAGers but I only got one Online name.

Checked my local GC. Only had a silver one. He found out why the black ones are cheaper -- They're apparently not compatible with older GB games (other than GBA), and the silver ones are? He acted like it was a totally legit deal, so I guess you guys are just dealing with some shady employees. The system said it was $14.99. He checked another GC for me, and they didn't have any, either. I went to the store myself, and he was absolutely right. I was able to snag Onimusha Tactics and Legaia 2 for under $13, though. :)

Edit: Well, apparently the guys at my GC didn't know what they were talking about -- Disregard this as the possible reason why. I have no idea, then. Maybe it is a mistake.

No GB Micros are compatible with non-GBA games. It was one of the criticisms against the system.

It's more likely one of the employees called dibs then a voicemail came out, I talked to my manager about it and it was the first time she had heard about it and she just got off of the weekly district conferenece call.

The employee was gonna give it to me (even with the free rentals they usually do for a system purchase), it was the manager who said he got the call.

FIRST RULE OF CAG : HEY IDIOT I WOULD RATHER CALL THEN DRIVE 20 MILES.

Then just assume they don't have any. If you can't risk driving, then don't bother, but don't go ruining the deal for other CAGs by giving away the big secret to asshole employies.

I was just at gamecrazy and the guy there told me that it was a price mistake and a call was sent out to all the gamecrazies to manually adjust the price to $69.99 I believe. So this is just a mistake that will probably be completely dead by morning.

Assuming that what people said in this thread is true, just calling to check if they have any used micros wouldn't do that, since they aren't marked. Unless you asked about the price, it wouldn't tip them off.

Consider this: You are a GameCrazy employee. You recieve a call at your store, and you walk to the computer terminal desk to pick up the phone. A customer has called for an inventory check on an item. The inventory is directly in front of you, in your computer's inventory database. You search for the item, it returns the item name, SKU, amount in inventory, and the PRICE. Either you have some that you are now personally buying and you will lie to the customer, or you don't have any but you know of the error and you may go to corporate about it.

Either way, the customer that calls about a secret deal like this has immediately threatened the deal by calling to check for it.

I would think any employee worth his salt would know if they had used micros or not without looking it up on the computer. Also, by your logic, anyone who went in to buy a micro would also be jeopardizing the deal, since the employees would certainly know about it then. Yeah, there's the chance that the employee would take it for themselves if you call, but this "you jeopardize the deal for everyone" guilt trip is BS. But whatever.

The people that complain DID ask about the price. If you recall that particular poster doubted the OP's post as being legit because he asked specifically about the price.

Also, by your logic, anyone who went in to buy a micro would also be jeopardizing the deal, since the employees would certainly know about it then. But whatever. And by his logic, that does happen. Many stores have honored a deal once (e.g. Office Space Season 2 recently, 0.01 cent guides, etc.) then corrected the "mistake" as soon as that transaction was over. However, no one bashes someone else for getting in on the deal and as a byproduct ended it at that particular store.

dont bother with the greenville or spartnburg sc stores, they have none

Time for me to tell my story.

Shortly after 10 am, I called my local store and bugged a guy I know and asked if they had any black Micros in stock. He said no, so I asked, "I know I could pay shipping and get a game shipped to me. Does it work the same way with handhelds?" Dude said yeah, but shipping is $10.

I went in later, and he was like, "How'd you hear about this price?" I mentioned our darling website. I ordered FOUR Gameboy Micros. They'll make great Christmas presents for my milldly game-interested friends.

I just went to my local GC and got one. $15 for a system I may or may not use, and 12 free rentals that I most definitely will use. Thanks to the OP.

You mean I'm supposed to get 12 free rentals? So if I bought four systems, does that multiply in my favor? Or no deal? How do you get the rentals? The employee didn't mention it to me.

Hm, anyone have any experience with this one? Will they honor my purchase? I already paid for the items and shipping up front. $104.99 for four.

You get 12 free rentals with new and used hardware purchases at Game Crazy. It doesn't work with old systems, just PS2, GC, Xbox, 360, GBA SP, GBM, DS, and DSL. So... be sure to get your Wii there, if you can.

The employee told me I could pay for the Micros when they came in, but I offered to pay immediately. It's not like I don't have the money.

Yeah, I'll be interested to see how this all plays out. If I get four, I'll feel quite lucky. Part of me expects to get a phone call tomorrow asking me to come in for a refund.

That's really harsh. I'm assuming the voicemail blast that went out was a little negative. Who could have known that the deal wasn't legit? Even though I bought four Micros, I bought it in good faith that the price was solid. That employee needs a lesson in customer service.

well what time was this "voicemail" first heard of? Also if it is a price glitch that also means that when they fix it you can trade it in for nearly double the price you paid for it. I paid 11.99 with employee discount and the trade in is 26.50. I will be at work tomorrow and if there was a voicemail I'm sure that will be the first thing I hear about.

Please let us know what you hear. Also, I'm really interested if they're going to honor orders placed to have units shipped from other locations. This was going to be a great Christmas idea for my friends and family, leaving me only having to get a game. I may get lucky, as it seems not many folks know that Game Crazy's will ship whatever you want from another location if you pay shipping.
