G4 to get Spaceballs TV cartoon

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Mel Brooks is developing an animated TV series based on his comedy feature "Spaceballs."

Like the 1987 movie, which parodied well-known science-fiction movies, "Spaceballs: The Animated Series" will spoof current blockbusters as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics.

It is set to debut on cable network G4 in fall 2007. Production has already started on an initial batch of 13 episodes.

Brooks, who will voice two characters in the show, co-wrote the pilot with longtime collaborator Thomas Meehan, who will oversee all writing for the series.

This is a horrible idea, on a horrible TV Channel based on a fine movie 20 years ago. It's a little late now.

First Futurama on Comedy Central (it should be on Fox or Adult Swim, the very people who gave it a chance) now this? How did the people who made these decisions get to where they are?

Spaceballs should be either on Fox or Adult Swim. We've seen how horrible Comedy Central-ized animation is. And G4 is so far gone from even just a year or two ago...

Even if the show is outstanding, you can't top a pile of shit with Magic Shell and expect it to be called a good dessert. People willl scrape off the topping and excuse themselves from the table.
