Just wondering if there are any model builders here? I am getting back into building models after a 10 year halt. Right now I am starting to hang my star wars toys on the ceiling using Premium Clear Fishing Line (12lb max) and 1-3/8'' screw eyes from wal mart. Is this strong enough to hold the models up for a long time(months or so) as they are roughly 6 1/2 feet from the floor. The Star wars toys I am holding up are Two Jedi Starfighters (Obi wan's and Anikan's), a Naboo Starfighter, the USS Excelsior (from star trek) and the final that will go up will be the very large Republic Gunship (with troopers).

Once I get around to building them, I want to put up Slave 1, the NX-01, a smaller scale Jedi starfighter, and a TIE Fighter.

Is there a site for tips in hanging stuff like this?

thanks

Well if the fishing line is doing fine why not stick with it..?

Ohh and go to a local store and just pick up a " No Girls Allowed" sign to throw up on your door after you hang the Ships ;)

yes the fishing line will hold. As a fisherman myself I can tell you that 12lb line will hold a model just fine. I've caught 20lb catfish (or wait it was a 50lb catfish ;) ) that put up some great fights on 12lb line.
I was into model building 7-8 years ago. I got out of it because almost all of the model kits I could afford were snap together types. I had a lot of fun building models though.

I'm also a fisherman, as well as a model builder. That's more than enough to hold any sized plastic model.

I just started getting back into it myself. I only build military aircraft though, primarily that of WWII. I have a monster B-29 model that I need to get around to building (Revell 1:48 scale), recently finished a P-51 and working on a Wright Flyer. I built the B-29 years ago, but it was broken by a punk ass little brother. I plan to build this one in the image of Fifi, the last remaining B-29 still in flyable condition.

At some point this year, I'm wanting to build another F-4U Corsair and P-38 (who knows, maybe I'll paint it orange to get that classic arcade/NES 1943 feel).

As for catching a 50 pound catfish on 12lb line, all I can say is that it must have been Spiderwire (no way the cheapo Walmart line would hold it). I caught a 33lb catfish last year off of 12lb test (Spiderwire), and a fucking crappie hook. It took me 15 minutes to get his ass to the boat, and the hook just slipped out of his front lip when I pulled the bastard aboard. Even weirder, it was done at noon on a 90 something degree day, in 12 feet of water in a large river. Personally.. I think the damned thing had brain damage.

i used to hang my model planes back in the day using fishing line. but if i were to do it again, i think i would attach small eye hooks into the model, whereas in the past, i just tied a loop around it.....looked kinda crappie

thanks for the suggestions guys... its been two days since I put up two toy jedi starfighters, the naboo fighter and the Excelisor. So far so good. I tried to put up my SW: Clone Trooper transport, but it didn't hold and I caught it before it fell :(

All your fishing stories reminds me of my days when I use to fish with my brother a long time ago.

I put together a LEGO X-Wing. Does that count?
