I've looked on the net and can't find a direct answer to my question. So here it is.
Can I hook a switch to a router. The switch replaces a current hub. More details below.
Right now I have a 4 por Router in room 1. That Router is connected to the cable modem, from that router I have a ethernet cord going into Room 2. That cord is hooked to a 4 port hub. It works fine for me but I need another port and both router and hub ports are full. Could I buy a switch to replace the hub. So it would be a Modem to Router to Switch. From what I've read on the net a switch is a dumb router. But then I was thinking isn't a hub just a dumb router as well.
And wireless isn't an option. I have to much stuff hooked to the net and it would cost hundreds of dollars to make everything wireless. I'm asking about the switch because newegg has one on sale right now for $.99 after rebate. But the cheapest 5 port hub I can find is $30.
thanks
