View Full Version : CompUSA {The Hobbit xbox} $4.99
This deal is in my local paper so i guess this is a YMMV deal. Regular price is $29.99 so you save $25.

Never mind that Best Buy were total a-holes when it came to price matching this deal... I'll give my tale (single quotes is me, double is 'the best buy guy')
'Hi, I'd like to buy The Hobbit for Xbox and Star Wars Bounty Hunter for GC. Oh and I have this Compusa paper for the price match.'
"Umm... they don't have Bounty Hunter in here..."
'Uh... yeah... I was actually trying to price match The Hobbit... right here, $4.99...'
"No can do, dude, we can't match this... they have theirs for $29.99 and we have ours for $19.99. You're getting the better deal here at THE Best Buy." (I swear to God he emphasized THE like it was just my lucky day to shop at this particular Best Buy).
'How is paying $15 more for a game a deal? Just price match it to the $4.99 listed, you ass...'
"Sir, this is my first day, cut me some slack, alright? Just pay the $15 dollars more and enjoy your games. The Return of the King you have right there rocks..." (yet, I had neither the DVD nor the EA Lord of the Rings game at the counter... musta been a phantom or something)
'Return of the... damnit... alright, I give up, I'm taking my business elsewhere... prick... may a rafter from up above smite you on thy head... you asshat...'
After some rather heated debate and verbal fisticuffs, a manager FINALLY took over and matched the price... geez... Guess I won't be shopping at THE Best Buy again... least not until they fire his ass...

If there was a CompUSA near me I would pick it up.
Can someone pick me up a copy?

Went to my CompUSA to try to get The Hobbit for 4.99 and they had it at 19.99 and there was no circular in the Sunday paper here.
Said the hell with it and went to BB, used a $5 coupon on it and got it for 14.99

Can some please give me a link to a scan of the Comp USA AD?
I ordered it online for store pick-up, but the bone-heads at Comp USA sold the copy there were holding for me.
I tried buying the newspaper, but there was no CompUSA ad in mine.

you could always steal it from the new newspapers...I'm sure that's why they were missing anyway.
who actually bought this game expecting to play it? I bought it so I could get credit to buy a game I wanted to play (dungeons heroes xbox).
And about that story...cut the dude some slack man...cashiers at bestbuy make less than 7 bucks an hour and have to deal with people asking them "is this a good gamestation game?" ugh... Besides you should'nt have to wait very long for him to no longer be working there because most bestbuy employees leave after 2-3 months (cause it blows to work there).

Not surprised... most stores fall into that select few that are 'participating stores only'. It's like any commercial you see... like the new $1.99 BBQ sub at Subway... in tiny print it says just that...

You would be wrong.

I did. At the cheapest local price I could find for a new copy.

Just got back from CC picking up a copy of Hobbit for my girls. The guy at the Service Desk was very reluctant to honor the Comp USA ad. He called someone over and they both said it was a rebate. I said it wasn't. Then they said its not for the XBox. I said it was and to look at the picture. Then he runs it through and asked for $5.21. I asked him about the 110% price guarantee. He sighed and ran it through again. I gave him a $10 and he placed my change on the counter along with my receipt and walked away. Well, I got it for $2.49 before taxes, but also got the usual CC attitude along with it. What's with these people? Its their policy to price match but they just hate doing it. Thanks for posting the deal.

I've had problems with circuit city in the past, with items advertised less in other stores mysteriously not being in the store when the ad becomes effective, while magically reappearing the week later. I don't know if it's a collusive effort to not have to use their own guarantee or what. However...they shouldn't offer to match prices if they are going to give shit to you.
I would imagine employees are reluctant to grant these price matches simply because I'm sure their "manager(s)" probably give them shit about it...probably teach their employees to try to snake out of the warranty so they can pump their sales totals.

Can someone PM me the best contact or address to complain at BB? I had similar issues with a FYE Simpsons DVD price match. They refused to match it even though the store was 1/4 mile away.

why not just go to FYE?

Well, he probably could, but if he gets CC to price match, he saves 10% more. In my case yesterday, the extra 10% was $2.50 which is nothing to sneeze at especially when you're a cheap-ass. CC should just honor the policy or end it. There are times that I've gone through the process with no hassle at all. But the bad experiences are what seem to stick in my head. I'll continue to take advantage of this policy and take the hassle that comes with it to save a few bucks. Just call me cheap.
