Hey all.

This is probably going to sound like an ad, but I don't work for Geico. I live in New Jersey and we have really high insurance rates. I have been with Selective Insurance for over 10 years, probably more like 15 years, and every year my insurance goes up even though I have no points or problems with my driving record.

So my insurance was to be renewed at the end of this month, and of course it went up a hundred or so for no reason. So a friend suggested I go to geico.com and get a free quote. I did, and I got a quote in about 15 minutes. It was $606.80 cheaper for the year versus what I am paying now.

So obviously, I bought the Geico policy and cancelled my Selective policy.

If you have car insurance, you should really go to www.geico.com and get a free estimate (you don't have to commit to purchase anything, you can just check their quotes).

I have Geico too. To be honest, I didn't do a lot of comparison shopping so there might be other deals out there.

I will say this- My Geico bill has been getting lower and lower every passing year. I haven't crashed my car though.

Geico was (for me) about $100 a year more than my State Farm policy.

LOL, they just recently started offering insurance in NJ. For years they played the commercials here, but at the end would always say "not available in New Jersey".

Maybe it'll be available in Mass. soon.

Some kid up the street from me crashed his old camry into the corner of one truck, crashed into the corner of my girl's brand new, 3 week old 2007 Camry, and ended the whole thing by crashing into mailboxes. All 3 cars were totalled. The mailboxes are still sitting on the grass.

He has Geico.. I hope it helps him out.

Yeah, that's what we get for having to leech off Philadelphia and New York television stations.

I also have Geico. The "established" insurance companies in NJ were raping us just because we had no alternative (apparently companies like Geico were too scared to come for a while). I wonder if some have been forced to go down because Geico moved in?

Same here. It was nearly $180 more and the coverage was LESS than what state farm was offering me.

I checked Geico in MN and it was about $450 more for a year than what I was paying with Amica. Providian was about $400 less than I paid with Amica so I switched to them. That is for full coverage on multiple cars and two drivers. I check around each time our coverage comes up for renewal and the differences are incredible for the same/similar coverage even with perfect driving records.

It really can vary by individual. It pays to call around and get some quotes from time to time. I saved a lot of money switching from Geico to Erie several years ago. When I called to cancel Geico they asked what rate I got (when I told them I was switching because I got a better quote) lady had me hold for a few minutes, while she was trying to figure out if they could match or beat Erie I assume, but eventually came back on and thanked me for having been a customer.

I really should shop around for quotes this year as it's been a while since I did. I'm too lazy to do it every year, but that is a great way to go.

Doesn't Mass have laws against car insurance companies actually competing? I think we have some really shitty state run regulation in place that feeds more money in the law makers' pockets like everything else here.

 Wonder if it's the same in RI too, we supposedly have the worst drivers in the country, along with DC and MA.

Geico saved me about $800 when i switched. I'm now with all-state but thats only because Geico doesn't offer a multi-policy discount and I have homeowners with All-state so it worked out better that way.

I'm with Geico myself. Though my parents still keep me on their policy. Mostly because my car is in their name (long story). But my rates seem to get lower every 6 months. I think mine may be at 100 a month now. Hopefully when I turn 25 in 2008, it'll droop a lot lower

Geico sucks IMO, I'd be paying about $20 more for less coverage with them over state farm. Also if you don't happen to have an independent agent that deals with them near you (which I hear they actually discourage at times) all you can do is talk to them over the phone. Not a good way to communicate should anything happen. I've also heard many stories about Geico service on making claims being terrible, so I guess you get what you pay for in that regard.

I just decided to check because of this geico was a whopping 300$ more than my current company (USAA)... btw you have to be military or x military or a child of military to use usaa.

My brother has USAA officer rates, his first wife's mother was an Army officer so he was able to get her rates. His insurance is incredibly low and he still gets the officer rates even though he divorced his first wife years ago. He has also gotten money BACK from USAA at the end of the year at times. His driving sucks too!
